Number 8 was hard because they were both my nominations, I really like that BTS song but wholeheartedly know that it will lose. The 1975 put out my fav album this year so i gotta go with that

It's unfortunate the way the matchups worked out in this bunch. Kyoto would be a strong contender if it didn't draw such a tough first round matchup, and Dramuscule is one of the more fun discoveries of the poll so far to me with its early 80s-experimental vibes. The last matchup had my two least favorite songs of the week, but at least the BTS song is trying to be interesting (actually, the 1975 track is what I expected BTS to sound like).

10. Philip Glass & Paul-Leonard-Morgan - Walk to School v. 1. Les Amazones d'Afrique feat. Kandy Guira - Sisters (#1)

Can't say I know that meme, is it a variation of "Old Man yells at cloud"?

It's just a guy making a bewildered face. I love both of these songs and Spotlight is a SOTY contender for me, so it's surprising to see someone rank one so high and the other so low.

Haha, well, I find Spotlight to be lost in an ever-growing crowd of nu-disco* and I've always thought of Ware's voice as too plummy on many of her tracks. But every part of Remember Where You Are- the whistling strings in the intro, that laidback bassline, the cascading backup vocals- act like psychedelic soul balm for testing times, something the chorus vaguely alludes to ("The heart of the city is on fire!") Even Ware's own vocals fit the song perfectly, matching the production's sophistication and adding a dollop of playfulness into the bargain (love the call and response when she sings "You should let me save the day"). It's absolutely one of my most cherished songs of the year too, number 31 on my provisional list and I can see it rising. Excuse the life story, I hope you don't regret asking!

*Not a bad thing, just becoming this year's bandwagon. Possibly the first nu-disco song of 2020, Rina Sawayama's Comme des garçons, still hits every time though.

Totally agree with the things you love about Remember Where You Are! I'm not a huge disco fan, but I have been really into the nu-disco movement this year.
