Help Wanted: Info about more albums on AM
Hi everyone,
First, I would like to say that - as many long-time forumers know - I had really bad health issues some years ago, and while it hasn't been as bad as then, I've had problems again lately (neck, back, feet). Therefore I have had to take things slowly with the next AM site update. I would like to take this opportunity to say how grateful I am for everyone's patience. I know how eager you are to see the new outcome after the addition of the 2010s decade lists!
Having said that, the end of year lists from 2018 and 2019 and the end of decade lists (2010s) are now added to my main site database. However, because of how the algorithm works and the way the data has been structured, it used to be a very time-consuming job to add albums from previous years to the all-time list in a correct manner. The good news is that now I have built a new script that makes this easier!
I want to add almost 1,000 additional albums from 2007 to 2019 (in addition to about 350 albums from 2018 and 2019 that I already have). Some of these years are quite poorly represented on AM, especially if the AM album list is going to be expanded to 5,000 or 10,000 albums some time in the future . With these additions there will be almost 200 albums from each year from 2007 to 2019!
The reason why I go back to 2007 is that the end of year excel spreadsheets go back that far. I also have track of all end of year lists up to 1993, but the end of year lists from 1994-2006 need to be summarized in spreadsheets before I can add albums from these years to AM. I will come back and ask for help about that later.
Now I need help with information about the almost 1,000 albums from 2007-2019, including a separate sheet for spotify links. It's a lot of work, so I suggest the work is split and that you sign up for just a letter or two (artist beginning on A and B for example). Filled in spreadsheets can be posted in this topic. Many many thanks in advance!
--------
There are also A LOT of other lists that have been posted in the forum during the last years, but have not been added to the site yet.
http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/forums/vi ... f=3&t=3815
I hope just as much as you that these lists can be added one day, but I just can't promise anything now. I would like to build a system where you can add data that go right into AM, but I probably won't have time for that anytime soon.
I have recently started a job at the Swedish Election Authority. A new IT system will be built for the next Swedish election, so the job will quite certainly make me more and more busy until the end of 2022...
On the other hand, there are no Swedish elections in 2023...

Is this conflated with the spreadsheet Pierre and I worked on a few years back?

No, that belongs to the ”A LOT of other lists” section I’m afraid...StevieFan13 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 3:12 pm Is this conflated with the spreadsheet Pierre and I worked on a few years back?

Re: Help Wanted: Info about more albums on AM
Actually I wanted to suggest that kind of system cause then you would only need to confirm lists and it will take less time from you.Henrik wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 2:10 pm

So after this year's update the next one will be in 2023? God,I am at high school now,by then I will be at university. If you could build that system soon that would be great.I have collected more than a dozen of lists and I really want to know how they will effect the ranks,I love this website a lot so I will wait as long as it takes.I hope you get well soon.
Re: Help Wanted: Info about more albums on AM
I would like to suggest an idea for the next updates.
I think it would be interesting if there were two all time lists on the site separating European criticism from American criticism.

Question:
Is SOPHIE's Product to be considered her debut album? RYM and Wikipedia list it as a compilation and Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides as her debut album, but Product was released earlier.

Info for A-B done! There have been lots of borderline cases. I tried to use my best judgement and made mentions of any difficulties in the comments column.

Re: Help Wanted: Info about more albums on AM
I'm afraid Henrik won't have time for that, unfortunately. That would mean not only new work on the data but new work on the website, too. But it would be interesting.
Also, for years I have been thinking about how cool it would be if there were "time-travelling lists". As in: a list compiling all the lists released pre-1980, another list compiling all the lists released pre-1990, etc. A bit like "how would AM look like if it had existed in 1980".
I think this kind of statistical treatment could give us insights that would not only be interesting but could even be useful for the people studying these areas of knowledge. Was Sgt Pepper's really the most acclaimed album back in the day? Or is our perception wrong? What sort of music and what kind of musician/band benefits the most from the passage of time?
Re: Help Wanted: Info about more albums on AM
I think we can't ask Henrik for things that are too demanding, we are just lucky that there will be a new update this year, maybe it will add a couple of recent relevant lists but nothing more.spiderpig wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 7:09 pmI'm afraid Henrik won't have time for that, unfortunately. On the other hand, all the information is available. Calculations and formulas can be done with the lists provided. It's just a matter of do it and supporting.

R, S and T are finished!
Quite a few albums don't have a Metacritic page; I noted that in the comments column.
There's also two or three albums with a language other than English, but I couldn't find out which language it is. I also noted that in the comments.

Regarding the info sheet, I think nothing has been taken in addition to the work on A-B and R-T by Schüttelbirne and Krurze. I hope someone has got a bit of time. Taking just one letter would really mean a lot of help to me!

So the rating for Harvey Milk's Life... the Best Game in Town is an image of a bomb... how do I input this?

U-Z Spotify links below!
If we find any errors in the provided data (say, a typo in the album name or the artists not in alphabetical order), should we correct them? I haven't done so in the attached spreadsheet but I can do by all means.
