AMF WC Classics Edition 98

Post by spiritualized »

Hello everyone,
It's time for instalment n°98 of the Classics Chart, where YOU get to nominate and vote for the best songs ever in a tournament to the death ! Only the cream of the crop will go through the grueling EIGHT weeks of charting.

Nominations will follow the rules below

- only the first top 1000 AM song nominated each week is eligible.
- only the first six top AM 1001-10000 songs nominated each week is eligible.
- that would leave 3 places each week reserved for un-acclaimed songs (if more than 3, the fourth unranked song will take the spot of a second tier one)

Top Tier (1-1000)
Second Tier (1001-10,000)
Third Tier (bubbling and unranked)

:scared-shocked: 135 votes last week (+20 votes)
:scared-shocked: On the top step of the podium : Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come
:scared-shocked: New Entries : Sam Cooke / The Kinks / Yo La Tengo / The Walker Brothers
:text-bump: Kicked out this week : The Avalanches / Minor Threat / Elbow
:text-bump: No Hoffers this week

The next song on my list is Deep Purple - Highway Star (Made in Japan version) (1972).
The studio version (ranked 1474 on AM) was already nominated by madzong and obtained only 6 votes on the Edition 83. Spiritualized, since it's a repeat you can use it or not, it's up to you.

I was surprised to see it not do so well on its first outing so I’d be keen for it to have another go around. That guitar solo at the end!

The live version is also good. Made In Japan is one of the most classic live albums of all time!

Freddie Aguilar - Anak (Unranked)

Pretty shock if this is his biggest hit single to date but some listeners (including some millennial listeners) forget this ballad. However, Freddie wrote this ballad in Tagalog-language because, at first, he leaving home then join to the dark side. However, because his father getting illness, he wrote this ballad soon as a regret letter to his parent and coming home to see the last condition of his father. Finally, it was happy ending, he can see his father's face before his father passed away and this is the saddest story ever that ended happily.
Director of Top Hits and also founder of Top 500 Radio Hits of All Time, now Top 500+ and soon grown up to Top 1000+.
