Welcome to the December 2020 Edition of Biggest Fan! It seems we have gone all the way to #700 already and in exactly two weeks we reach our two year anniversary!

What is Biggest Fan? That is a little game we play here, based on the All-Time Song Poll of last year. In that game, people could vote for their favorite songs of all time, up to a top 1000. Although a lot of songs got multiple votes, there were still a lot of songs that only managed to get one vote. The lonely tunes were then used for this Biggest Fan game, where each day there is a random song from that list is picked. People can than give them a grade and average rating of these votes will be revealed in this topic, ranked from lowest to highest. The plan is to update this top 100 every time we did another 100. People are still allowed to vote for songs that have already appeared here and can also change their votes, so list has the potential to remain dynamic.

To make the list, you now need a score of 6,696428571. We have 17 newcomers, two more than the previous update. Also, since we have two songs tying for the 100th spot we actually have 101 songs this time around. Above all, there are some major upsets that will make this the most exciting update in a long time...

This update had more notable developments than the last few before it. Let's talk first about the big three:

- A new number one! Big Thief held on to the number one spot for three editions now. That's a record, but they had to yield to Dead or Alive. I wasn't the only one who was surprised You Spin Me Round was even eligible. Was StevieFan#13 really the only one to vote for it? Apparently so, but I suspect that even more than Shark Smile or any other song in this list You Spin Me Round has a good shot of appearing in our top 1000 (or is that 2000) of the next all-time poll.
- We also have new "loser" in R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet, a song that immediately drew much derision when it appeared in this game. Acroamor can now breathe safely, as his nomination Yes by LMFAO was the lowest from the start. It was the eight song to appear in this game, so it has been through a lot. What's most stunning is that our new loser is a song that actually ranks on AM at #4916... Would it also be the most hated song from the official list? (Yes, I know that is for all five the chapters, while we only voted for #1, but I doubt it would make a difference).
- That is all very interesting, but not as importance as the inclusion of New Year and In the Dutch Mountains in the top 100. Yes, you have seen that right, I have finally a song in our list! Two even! Still to little, as I had six songs appearing, one of which, Girl from the North Country seemed to almost make it. But still: this at least shows that there is hope for you uncultured, ungrateful people yet!

- The average this time around is 5,903271399. Last time it was 5,883134758. It may not look like a big growth, but compared to the last few times this is almost huge, believe it or not.
- Time for a sad story. Although Dead or Alive seemed poised for victory almost from the get-go, they were initially challenged by Taylor Swift with All Too Well, whose support on the first day was enormous and I thought it might become the first song to perhaps make an average of 8. Then something unexpected happened. After the almost monstrous success of the first day the song was quickly punished after, as almost everyone who voted at a later moment gave it a very low score. If anyone coukd have benefitted from a Trumpian "Stop the counting!" it would have been Taylor Swift. The catch-up votes were so bad that she ended up at #369 with an average of 5,964285714. (Alan Parsons Project suffered a slightly less severe version of this fate with their Eye in the Sky).
- Gorillaz, Deep Purple, Big Thief and The Heavy held the spot for most songs (with 2 each) last time and they are now joined by Elvis Costello and The Decemberists.
- So how are all the fans doing? Last time we saw Hymie getting a beating and being removed from the throne as the nominator with the most songs in the top 100. He came back with a vengeance this time, with two new entries and no losses, giving him 7 entries. Enough to win the title as King of the Fans? Last time Brad took the lead with 8 songs ranked. Things looked dire for Brad, who lost three songs this time around, but it seems you can't keep him down, as he also gained three, putting him again at 8 and one step ahead of Hymie. Old rival Zombeels is slipping though, losing one song and gaining none. He is now at five. Krurze, who did quite well the last time, also lost one with no gains and ends up at four, putting him at the same spot as SafetyCat (who had no changes), fasbjd (ditto), JohnnyBGoode (one song lost but one song gained), Antonius (one gain), sonofsamiam (one gain) and StevieFan13 (only one new entry, but it is the number 1!). That's a lot of people who have four songs this time around! Nonetheless, Brad remains King of the Fans!
