For a long time this was always the last record I played before I turned in for the night. Very soothing.
HARD AGREE! I was going to recommend Harry Belafonte, who we'd play for my daughter when she'd have trouble sleeping, in particular his version of Leadbelly's "Cotton Fields"

I went looking for a consistently slow version of Cotton Fields, and they may not exist. Found dozens of versions, and all put at least some energy to it, including The Beach Boys, Credence, Johnny Cash, The Carter Family, and Elton John. Leon Russell has a great instrumental that starts out slow but then goes into hyperdrive.
Maybe the best alternate is from Odetta, who Belafonte learned it from.
