AMF WC Classics Edition 113

Post by spiritualized »

Hello everyone,
It's time for instalment n°113 of the Classics Chart, where YOU get to nominate and vote for the best songs ever in a tournament to the death ! Only the cream of the crop will go through the grueling EIGHT weeks of charting.

Nominations will follow the rules below

- only one of the first top 1000 AM songs can be nominated each week.
- A maximum of six of the top AM 1001-10000 songs can be nominated each week.
- that leaves a minimum of 3 places each week reserved for un-acclaimed songs (if you want more than 3, the fourth + unranked song will take the spot of a second tier one)

The top 10 songs by votes (then by most recent nominations) will move on to the next week. In case of equal votes and starting weeks, more songs can advance to the next week. The 10 (or less) new nominations will be added to the pool for the next contest. In case there are less than 20 songs to compete, a randomised song from the 10000 AM songs will be added.

After 8 weeks in the top 10, the song will move to the Hall of Fame.

:scared-shocked: 126 votes last week (+2)
:scared-shocked: On the top step of the podium, for the seventh week running : The Velvet Underground - Sunday Morning
:scared-shocked: 3 new entries : Big Star / The Rolling Stones / Colin Bluntstone
:text-bump: Kicked out this week : Dick Dale / Chris Isaak / The Beatles / Elvis Costello / The Beta Band
:text-bump: No Hoffers this week

Side note : I'm going to implement a new rule : no ranked song will be able to be re-nominated. This means they will only have one go ever in this chart (thanks to Brad keeping tabs !)

Spiritualized, curious as to why last weeks nomination of the Beach Boys’ Sloop John B didn’t make it to the list this week. It’s ranked 2699 AT AMF and does not appear on your 1000+ previously nominated songs. Forgive me if I’m missing something here. If it was purely an oversight I’d like to renominate. Thanks

Sorry ! It's purely an oversight..*
I did see it, but somehow as I was compiling everything it evaded me. So very sorry !
You're ok if we put it on next week ?

I'm going to change the way I nominate...
Rather than pick through my "liked songs" on Spotify, I'm going to use the Last.Fm playlists. They curate from all sorts of algorithms and some of the songs are pure gems.

So here we go.

Once we hit 100 HOF songs I’d love to see a game in the vein of the decade polls where you rank all the ones you’ve heard!
