I loved how they thrashed "bad guy" in their track review, even going so far as to say it advocated statutory rape :? For the 1,000th time ever, Pitchfork has shown to be completely hypocritical, but i'm not even surprised honestly.

Wow P4K is a big joke

A site that was known as the anti popular magazines and for hating Madonna extremely, but now I see all those inferior popstars making its lists lol

It's almost as if the track review was done by one person and the songs list was done by many people who may have had different opinions.

Good point, but i'm still surprised nevertheless, considering that Pitchfork's EOY songs lists usually consist of ones who were given positive reviews by them upon release.

So, which albums that got "best new music" will be snubbed this year?

Predictions:

Nivhek - After its own death / Walking in a spiral towards the house
RAP - EXPORT
Beyoncé - Homecoming: The Live Album
Polo G - Die a Legend
Leif - Loom Dream
Moodymann - Sinner

Whilst the list on the whole is very questionable, with way too much forgettable pop garbage, I must say i'm happy to see Cellophane get a number one placing given it has been the best song of the year by a long way in my opinion ever since I first heard it.

Agreed! Happy to see The Greatest at No. 2 as well.

This post is ironic, right? Because I think this is obvious, for all zines. I don’t get comments here about lists that don’t match a source’s initial reviews. You can’t have all staff rating everything for the album reviews, while the whole staff is hopefully involved in the eoy lists.

Also, I’m fine if all-time and/or decade lists from the same source change over time. Even music critics’ taste change over time, and staff come and go. If a list is basically the same as a previous one, then what’s the use for that?

You do have a point, but many publications that i've seen do these year-end lists usually praise the most the albums which were initially given positive reviews by them. I was just puzzled that this list didn't, considering that Pitchfork has a history of doing so. But yeah, i completely agree that changes of taste over time aren't bad, because changes of taste apply to all of us.

Putting my feelings about Pitchfork aside (which aren't as strong as some), I don't mind this list- one of my top 5 songs of the year at #1, the year's Solange, Vampire Weekend and Nilüfer Yanya tunes, a Koffee track...including Shawn Mendes is such a pathetic sop towards pop, though, that P4K can't even bring themselves to place it any higher than #100.
All I got inside is vacancy!

You got some of them! In fairness, I didn't think they'd count the Beyonce album as it's a live album.

True, I thought the album would receive the Kate Bush treatment and be snubbed from the list

Anyway, when is Pitchfork going behind a paywall again? I thought it was this year?

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Lana Del Rey, Purple Mountains, Jamila Woods, Bon Iver, Brittany Howard, Fka Twigs, Tyler, The Creator, Vampire Weekend, Billie Eilish, ariana grande, Big Thief, 100 gecs, burna boy, rico nasty and kenny beats, polo g, dababy, bad bunny

So, 10 years ago, would this artists be in a pitchfork or a rolling stone list?
Well, now they're in both. What does that say about PF? Or RS?

It means that is no such thing as "indie music" and "mainstream music" anymore. Access to music has never been easier and more democratic. Everybody is listening to everybody.

PS: just to be clear, I'm not being literal, but you get the idea.
