Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
The list is predictable. I knew that they would kiss Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, Lana Del Rey their ass so hard
Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
Not the same old Kanye and Kendrick albums occupying the top 2 at least!

You would say that But you're right, variety isn't a virtue in itself, especially by highly rating BTD or the 1975 album. I'm sure I won't have much support in saying this, least of all from you, but I do side with this list in opting for Yeezus above MBDTF. I will listen to any old noise though!Cold Butterfly wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 8:27 pm Ehh idk, its not really an improvement to have Born To Die and I Like It When You Sleep above them

Oh don’t worry, Yeezus is my second-favorite Kanye album, so you have my approvalmileswide wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 9:56 pmYou would say that But you're right, variety isn't a virtue in itself, especially by highly rating BTD or the 1975 album. I'll say this: It's unmistakably an NME list!
Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
Could have seen AM coming a mile off, but I just don't get how anyone can look at that record, as good as it is, and say it is the best of the whole decade.

I love the unadulterated honesty of putting their original scores of the albums. Whoops indeed for GKMC.
Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
Comparing this list to its old lists is funny. This was one of the most elitist rock magazines and look now

Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
To be honest, that's why I think it is one of the better lists coming from one of the more famous magazines/ websites. It's not that this list reflects mine or I think that it captures the 2010 in all its glory, but there is something to be said for a music publication that really knows who it is. I never put a reaction to the Pitchfork list, but I detested its pretentiousness, hypocrisy and the way the site went from an indie-celebrating outlet to an indie-hating outfit. NME are unapologetically rock-centred and British. That can't be what you like, but I always appreciate it somewhat if I know from what perspective a publication is writing. And they still have enough interest for truly modern works, while not overstating things.
Also, AM is a great album and at least it is a choice that sets them apart while feeling true to themselves. No, I do not read NME really and I don't think they are amazing, but there is something to be said for this list.
Except one thing. In their 500 Albums of All Time list from 2013 they had Laura Marling's I Speak Because I Can in their list. That is still my personal favorite of the 2010's, but never expected it to do much on these decade lists. Still, I hoped for the support of NME, but sadly they let me down.

Can you actually name which 'indie' acts have been so terribly hard done by in the Pitchfork list, or indeed any others? Because frankly all these sort of comments carry the whiff of 'ugh, not rap music!'

Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
Well, first off I wasn't thinking about rap music at all, whose domination is only natural in this day and age (I'd argue that many publications pay too little attention to it outside of a small group of artists), but I am very tired of the way many publications handle poptimism, so there's that.charliepanayi wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 9:04 amCan you actually name which 'indie' acts have been so terribly hard done by in the Pitchfork list, or indeed any others? As for indie acts; St. Vincent is the most famous they mostly dropped. Janelle Monáe is another. Sun Kil Moon is well-documented, but seems to have some outside reasons; as does Swans. War On Drugs, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Perfume Genius and many others are present but barely and very low.
Though, frankly, looking at the list after some time off it perhaps isn't so bad as it seems. I guess the godawful writing made it seem worse. And I guess that has always been true (I only rarely read them).
Re: NME (UK) - Greatest Albums of The Decade: The 2010s
Definitely agree with this. Would rather a publication be consistent within its own taste than to pretend it likes different albums at the end of the decade than it did throughout.Rob wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 8:53 pmTo be honest, that's why I think it is one of the better lists coming from one of the more famous magazines/ websites. Also, this list is worthwhile for being the only one so far to include Wolf Alice's Visions of a Life. I'm shocked that such an ambitious, high-quality and accessible album isn't widely liked.
