Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
Seriously? They're giving us 1 per day now AND they're taking weekends off? Just when you thought their level of douchedom couldn't stoop any lower.
Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
Douchedom? In what respect? I am a frequent reader of the Guardian, and I find it more reliable than American news media when it comes to issues of the day, including in this country. Their music criticism is all over the place, I'll admit, though.luvulongTIM wrote:Seriously? They're giving us 1 per day now AND they're taking weekends off? Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
The whole keeping us in suspense is what I find rather pompous and arrogant. As if everyone who reads these EOYS feels captivated and on the edge of their seats to see which ONE single album is going to be named next per day. And they take weekends off from naming one album per day? LOL! Yeah that's so much work they're gonna need time off to recuperate;)

Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
It's a daily newspaper, and as such I think it understandable that they want to publish each entry as a separate article (assuming it is not just a small notification). Their daily readers, and not us list collectors, are their customers.

Pompous and arrogant? I think you're taking it way too seriously to be honest. I couldn't care less how they do it.

Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
I know. The way people feel about publications or websites releasing EOYs in October is the way I feel about them stretching out their EOYs and milking it as long as they can. As Frank Zappa's favorite cartoon character would say "get on with in man!!!!"
Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
Perhaps it's only me but ever since they started publishing the top ten one per day-by-day it seemed obvious that the plan was to release them only on the weekdays, especially as the Observer takes over on Sundays. It also lines up succinctly with series ending on the last day before their critics wind-down for the holiday season.
Couldn't agree more.JimmyJazz wrote:Douchedom? In what respect? I am a frequent reader of the Guardian, and I find it more reliable than American news media when it comes to issues of the day, including in this country. Their music criticism is all over the place, I'll admit, though.

So what are we thinking here? Reflektor #2 and Yeezus #1, or are there any outliers that could upset?

Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
My money is on Kanye and John Grant (which they gave five stars to, and I really hope it is in the top two). Reflektor only got three stars in its original review, so I can see them leaving that out.
Re: EOY 2013 Guardian (UK)
Heck, I didn't even remember that Grant hadn't appeared yet. Of course. Grant is such an interesting case - an American artist who's become wildly acclaimed in the UK but almost completely unrecognized in his own country.charliepanayi wrote:My money is on Kanye and John Grant (which they gave five stars to, and I really hope it is in the top two). As regulars to this forum might know, Queen of Denmark is one of my favorite albums, and I was thrilled to see it make the AM top 3000. PGG is very different, knotty and uneven and requiring more patience to appreciate, but its best moments (particularly the gorgeous closing it-gets-better anthem "Glacier") are every bit as great as anything on QoD.
