You're welcome, sir. :)

An addition: those new Porcys lists of 1990s albums and singles.

I added the Porcys lists and the RS debut albums one to the first post. I also came across NME's list of 50 best debut albums (from 2010). Would that be eligible?

Is the update to Rolling Stone's new top 500 albums going to include albums whose places have shifted, such as "Is This It"?

Hi JR,

I've been around on this forum for a while, whether logged in or not, and even though I know you've only posted here lists of English-only stuff, I'll try and add the international lists that I've noticed here and there. I don't guarantee that I've seen'em all:

Julian Cope's Krautrock/Japrock samplers:

Hungarian music:

Rolling Stone Indonesia : Greatest albums (2007) & greatest songs (2009)

Los 50 mejores discos de la Historia del Rock Español, según la Rolling Stone (2009):

All-Time: 100 mejores canciones del rock nacional (Argentina - 2002) by MTV & Rolling Stone:

...A bunch of additional lists from what I can judge:
http://pub37.bravenet.com/forum/static/ ... 2&cmd=show

I just thought it would be sad to let them all be lost into oblivion. It looks like some of them were actually posted by me. An homonym might have posted stuff as well, as some of the things I'm supposed to have said don't sound like me at all.

Thanks, Pierre. No, that's fine- i only looked at the English lists, as they (I believe) take precedence- and that's only because there are a lot more of them. :)

JR, could I ask you to provide links to the "lists in your list"? That would be very helpful.

Also, the list of albums and songs in the National Recording Registry has been updated since last shown on AM. The same goes for those albums covered by the 33 1/3 series.

Thanks JR!

Flavorwire is already included. Same with "Symposium on the 100 Best Jamaican Songs, 1957-2007". I have called it "Jamaican Poll - The Top 100 Jamaican Songs of 1957-2007 (2009)"

If any lists are only available from the old forum, it would be good if someone could post copies of them here, as I no longer pay for the old service and they might be deleted any day!

Henrik, I've found the link to that ZEIT list. And it was thanks to an old e-mail I had saved from you, that included the link. :)

I put it with the other albums links, but I'll make a separate thread for historical purposes.

Thanks for that, o.m- I hadn't seen it. It's clearly rock-oriented, but then it has an ABBA track and a Carpenters one. And, of course, there's no R&B.This is similar to an albums book I had found, that was rock-oriented and didn't include other genres.

Thanks for the reminder, o.m.! I actually had this one included in my spreadsheets before the computer crash, but then I forgot about it. As I recall, the full list was once available, but now I can only find place 1-231 through Google books. Anyone who's got the book, or knows a link to the whole list?

Henrik, I'm able to see the whole list index via o.m.'s Google Books link. I created a Word file of the screen captures and I'll email it to you. You'll need to magnify it to about 400% to be able to read it, but the whole top 1000 is there.

I thought the German Rolling Stone 500 songs list would be added to 2013 update. Henrik could you comment on this?

Of course it can't be added now, but to 2014 update, that would be great.

Edit: Now the links don't seem to work. I'm on it.

Edit: I mean I guess the bottom two do work. Here's the 500 songs list:

JR, I think none of the '00s lists are eligible. Gorilla vs. Bear published two individual lists and Pretty Much Amazing's list also turned out to be from a single critic when I looked at archive.org to see if the list was published in 2009 or 2010. An earlier version of the page has this intro:

"After much thought, I decided that I wasn’t satisfied with my original list, nor my execution of it. I have done a lot of reviewing and listening over the last few weeks..."

http://web.archive.org/web/200912300639 ... -2000-2009

Furthermore, The list from Jazz Magazine was included in the last update.

I added Crossroads to the albums links post, and the "Theater van het Sentiment" songs to the songs links post.

Didn't hear anything about the Consequence of Sound top 20 Madonna list, so I haven't added it as of yet 9same for that Time Out list, which may not be deemed eligible).

Again, I'm just putting English-language tracks in the links posts (since they're most common), but others are free to post links to non-English ones in this thread.

In the list summary, it seems you forgot to include the 50s and 60s song lists that NME did last year. It was part of that batch of lists that included NME's 70s, 80s, 90s, Lifetime, and Album lists.

I was out in a store recently, and in the magazine section was a Rolling Stone Collectors Edition featuring their picks for "The Top 100 Bruce Springsteen Songs" (hey, at least it's a special issue that has nothing to do with the Beatles, Dylan, or the Stones, somewhat new for RS! Then again, they do seem to be pretty in love with the Boss as well, sooo maybe not!) I didn't get the chance to look at it, and I don't really have any intentions of purchasing it. I've been searching for the list on the internet, but so far no luck. I was just bringing it to everyone's attention. I was also checking to see if it is even eligible, and if somebody could find the list that would be great!

It likely would be eligible, much like other artist lists (especially one that's 100-positions deep).

Henrik, could you determine the eligibility of the Madonna lists in the Consequence of Sound Top 20 Madonna thread? Thanks, sir. :)

JR, thanks for posting the Madonna lists, but I need to think more about them. I'm just afraid that if I include them (or many of them) there will come a flood of similar lists for other artists.

Or could Madonna be treated separately because her biggest fan is an AMF member...? ;) :?

Maybe if there is a maximum number of artist lists, for each one.
Something like include only the 5 or 3 larger lists of Madonna, or so and so.

Or combine all the lists of one artists in a spreadsheet and give them the value of a single list. If this was done with each artist, I think it would be fair.

I like that second idea, Henrik. ;)

With Madge, her debut album just turned 30, so that's partly why there have been a number of lists (plus, she had her 55th birthday recently). And, she's MADONNA, so like some other big, revered acts, we'll see these kinds of lists more often than we do for lesser acclaimed acts.

I'm waiting patiently for Rolling Stone to do a full-blown Madonna list, like it has for some other acts :D (but note that those lists have akl been- shocking- male acts)

I added a few links to the Albums and Songs lists. Haven't added the Consequence of Sounds or Time Out lists, as Henrik hasn't made any firm calls on those.

I thought I was clear that none of the Time Out lists are eligible. At least the three I'm thinking of.

That's fine- I had given more food for thought in the thread, about how that one "party" list was different than others (as most of the songs themselves are not about partying), but it's all good, either way. :)

JR, to the album list, you should add that 100 Greatest Albums of All Time book that Toby Croswell helped to write...

Also, No Ripcord and Groove.

Craig Mathieson and Toby Creswell: The 100 Best Albums of All Time
No Ripcord Top Albums 1990-1999
No Ripcord Top Albums 2000-2009
Groove (Germany): 100 best electronic Albums

And Uncut's singer/songwriter list is not eligible.

Thanks, Henrik and JJ- I added those to the albums-linkj post (and placed everything in alphabetical order, for easier reference).

paul- I'll wait for Henrik's call before adding those lists.

Henrik- what about this other Guardian list?

Hey, Henrik and JR, what happened to those Paste artist lists that I posted awhile ago? Are they eligible? I will bump them right now actually so that you can see them.

The door is not completely shut, but to be honest I probably won't ever include them, simply for the reason that I would then have to add more top 20 lists from various sources than I have time to. The rule I will stick to, for the next update at least, is staff lists of more than 20 songs. I hope this is ok.
