Films of the 1950s: 1954

Post by Petri »

The rules:

You can post a list of anywhere between 1 and 15 films (or more, but only 15 will be counted) from the year we're covering. The deciding factor in terms of release dates is the RYM list and the top 10 of each year will go on to the final top 100. The deadline is April 30th.

The points scheme is as follows:
1. 50
2. 40
3. 30
4. 20
5. 15
6. 10
7. 9
8. 8
9. 7
10. 6
11. 5
12. 4
13. 3
14. 2
15. 1
However, these are the maximum amounts of points. If you want to put certain films on your list but don't want to give them too many points, you can choose to give these less points than in this scheme (but never more) to decrease the impact on the overall results. If you don't specifically state that you want to give (some of) your films fewer points, I will assume the standard scheme.

Here are some lists to remind you of the films released in 1954:

I've seen so far only six movies from 1954 (all of them worth of points though). Again I try to watch some new movies from 54 before dead line.

1. La strada
2. Rear Window
3. Dial M for Murder
4. 七人の侍 [Seven Samurai]
5. Sabrina
6. On the Waterfront

Sasho the Baliff
Seven Samurai
Voyage To Italy
Rear Window
Johnny Guitar (5 pts)
On The Waterfront (3 pts)
La Strada (1 pt)

La Strada is a good film but I think it's the big overrated film of this year. Fellini films tend to have such imbecilic women who are easy to like the first time around but on second viewing just give you a headache with the way they're forced into the victim role.

Rear Window is one of my favorite films. Such a great atmosphere. Other than that I'm giving low scores to not hurt films I haven't seen so much.

1. Rear Window
2. Dial M for Murder, 8p
3. On the Waterfront, 6p
4. La strada [The Road], 4p
5. 七人の侍 [Seven Samurai], 2p
Everyone you meet fights a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.

On The Waterfront
On The Waterfront (3 pts)
You have On The Waterfront twice on your list. So do you want to give it 10 points or 3 points? I doubt there won't be any change in the final results despite what your decision will be.
