Films of the 2000s: Final Top 150 Overall List Submissions

Post by Petri »

It's time for the final vote!

Please rank the movies you've seen in the final 150 and submit your list by email to me at popelton (at) gmail (dot) com. Please don't send your list here in the forum.

You can find the excel file below.

Please send your copy of the same excel sheet back.

The deadline is July 15th (I'll be on vacatation then so I don't now yet if I'm on computer then, but I let you know if I extend the voting time few days. And if you need some extra days to vote let me know.)

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks! :)

I noticed there wasn't an English title for Der Untergang by Oliver Hirschbiegel in the Excel sheet. So the English title of the movie is Downfall.

Only eight days left to vote. So far I've received only one list (from bonnielaurel). If you need more time just let me know.
The 1990 poll will start right after the voting has ended in this final.

I'm probably waiting until the last day to send mine, to give myself as much time as possible to watch more films. You can definitely count on me to submit (and hopefully I don't forget that last day...). I've watched about 8 more of these within the last month, and I plan to get around to at least American Splendor and Ghost World before I finalize the list. Looks like I'll end up with 111/150, less than I wanted but still good.

^Me too. There were a few films on the list I still wanted to see. I should probably have at least 100 films under my belt, but I had some on a watchlist I was planning on watching anyway.

I almost have a ballot finished, though.

I have been working towards watching as many films as possible before the deadline. Will probably run until the last minute (I have Thursday and Friday off!!).

The Squid and the Whale is my highest ranking new entrant, I was hooked from the first sequence.

I'm watching Inside Man and it's the first film where I'm questioning the forum. I'll see how this plays out though, I have been proven wrong in the past.

I had so many issues with the film. None of them major, but enough to still bug me days later.

- I thought the music was completely wrong, and gave away a lot early on in the film (when I wrote my initial comment I was about 10 minutes in and the 'Rabbi' had been thrown to the ground with a huge swell of dramatic music).
- Is there supposed to be a twist? I think it was apparent early on what was going to play out. The Nazi ties were equally hammy, they should have left what Case had done in his past a mystery.
- A hostage situation like this couldn't just be dropped, the public intrigue would force everyone's hands to get results.
- I thought the ending was incongruous with the rest of the film (what's up with the detectives final 30s gangster suit?). Like the film was supposed to be 10 minutes shorter, but then during test screenings people weren't content with leaving the film unresolved. So they went back and shot the extra scenes which told everyone exactly what was up and gave the detective the girl.

Edit: To provide something positive, I thought the acting was top notch and was what kept me going. Everyone brought their A-Game, especially Jodie.

I sent my list yesterday, with comments for everything. I hope I don't come off as too harsh on some of them, but that's going to happen if I actually comment on every single movie I watched.

I think all but my bottom 3 or so would receive overall positive reviews from me, but having to consider them against the best of their era brings their flaws to the front.

So far I have received lists from bonnielaurel, whuntva, Greg, bootsy, BleuPanda and Gillingham. Thank you all of you and especially for BleuPanda who commented all the movies he has seen (I haven't read the comments yet).
According to the first post of this thread dead line would be tomorrow. However I'm on vacation now and have been very little on computer lately so the presentation isn't ready yet. So I will extend the dead line to sunday evening (and if someone needs more time I can give extra time if you want to watch more movies (anybody who has sent his/her list can still edit it if one wants)).
I hope at least all the regulars will vote but everybody who watches movies is more than welcome to participate.
Sorry for the delay but hopefully we get more participants and people will see more movies.

I think I start the presentation after JimmyJazz has finished his with artist poll.
So you have at least one or two days to vote.
I have received lists from bonnielaurel, whuntva, Greg, bootsy, BleuPanda, Gillingham, JimmyJazz, Miguel, antonius and Midaso. So many regulars haven't voted yet (I hope at least 15 people will vote...). So keep them coming

Thanks, got the list from Maschine_Man, Nassim, Michel, Dexter and Dolly Wilde.
I think everybody who has expressed their will to vote has done it so I think I start the presentation tonight. Maybe people can follow two countdowns simultaneously and hopefully this one gets few more followers this way. :) So if you planning to vote please inform me about that as soon as possible. Otherwise the countdown will start in three hours.
