Films of the 1990s: 1993 (2016 edition)

Post by Petri »

The rules:

You can post a list of anywhere between 1 and 20 films (or more, but only 20 will be counted) from the period we're covering. The deciding factor in terms of release dates is the RYM list and the top 15 of each period will go on to the final top 150. The deadline is 15th of October. If you haven't voted for your favorite movies of 1992 there's is still two weeks left to do it.

The points scheme is as follows:
1. 50
2. 40
3. 35
4. 30
5. 25
6. 20
7. 18
8. 16
9. 14
10. 12
11. 10
12. 9
13. 8
14. 7
15. 6
16. 5
17. 4
18. 3
19. 2
20. 1

However, these are the maximum amounts of points. If you want to put certain films on your list but don't want to give them too many points, you can choose to give these less points than in this scheme (but never more) to decrease the impact on the overall results. If you don't specifically state that you want to give (some of) your films fewer points, I will assume the standard scheme.

Here are some lists to remind you of the films released in 1993:

IMDb
RYM
Films101
RottenTomatoes

If you vote for 4 movies or less, this is the adjusted scores:
4 votes
1. Movie 40 p
2. 35 p
3. 30 p
4. 25 p

3 votes
1. Movie 35 p
2. 30 p
3. 25 p

2 votes
1. Movie 30 p
2. 25 p

1 vote
1. Movie 25 p

And both will be on my ballot.

I'm not going to vote just yet. I still have a few films on my list, but that's just a general overview of what to expect.

luney6's last minute vote for Three Colors: Blue cut off the row the best picture Oscar winner winning also the AM poll (next time there's any chance that AM will agree with Academy is 1999 and probably not even then I think).
Kika jumped from nowhere to #8. In the Line of Fire did also much this time. Wrong Trousers missed the final maybe partly because some (including me) find hard to vote for animation short (series) films (short films are eligible so don't forget that you can vote for them too). The other finalist of the last round that missed to qualify was Philadelphia.

Seconded. Incidentally I watched Sleepless in Seattle and Carlito's Way yesterday(finished in the morning). Carlito's Way is great, probably my favorite De Palma film, so many memorable scenes, especially that chase in the end! Jurassic Park and Red Rock West are on the same level for me, entertaining films but nothing headspinning.
