Films of the '70s: 1977

Post by Stephan »

You can post a list of anywhere between 1 and 20 films (or more, but only 20 will be counted) from the year we're covering. The deciding factor in terms of release dates is the RYM list and the top 10 of each year will go on to the final top 100 round. The deadline is July 1st.

The points scheme is as follows:
1. 50 points
2. 40
3. 35
4. 30
5. 25
6. 20
7. 18
8. 16
9. 14
10. 12
11. 10
10. 9
...
20. 1
However, these are the maximum amounts of points. If you want to put certain films on your list but don't want to give them too many points, you can choose to give these less points than in this scheme (but never more) to decrease the impact on the overall results. If you don't specifically state that you want to give (some of) your films fewer points, I will assume the standard scheme. If you submit a list of fewer than 5 films, the maximum number of points you can give to each film is lowered.

Here are some lists to remind you of the great (and awful) films released in 1977, from a variety of sources:
IMDb
RYM
Films101
RottenTomatoes

I really wanted to watch Stroszek and Eraserhead, but I couldn't find the time. Hopefully I'll be able to watch them before the final. That means I can only submit a top 6 for this year:

1. Star Wars
2. A Bridge Too Far
3. Annie Hall
4. Killer Of Sheep
5. 21 Up
6. The Battle of Chile: The Coup d'État
7. Saturday Night Fever

2. Star Wars (George Lucas) - 305/11/2
3. Eraserhead (David Lynch) - 275/10/2
4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Steven Spielberg) - 159/7/2
5. Stroszek (Werner Herzog) - 155/4/1
6. Der Amerikanische Freund [The American Friend] (Wim Wenders) - 143/6/1
7. Una Giornata Particolare [A Special Day] (Ettore Scola) - 109/4/0
8. Padre Padrone (Paolo Taviani) - 96/3/1

Third films for both Steven Spielberg and Werner Herzog.
