End of Decade Film Poll-List Thread

Post by Holden » Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:06 pm

Hello! Holden here! I noticed that no one has really said anything about an end-of-decade Film Poll, so I thought it would be fun to start one!
Please post ranked lists of your favorite films of the decade! You will require twenty films to enter, and up to two hundred will be counted. I'll allow this poll to be fairly long, since I know there are a lot of important polls coming up. So I'll set the end date at May 31st. If you love movies like I do, and have the time, please post this here!
Also don't know what formula to use for an end-of-decade scale poll so suggestions would be great!
Edit: Yes this can include shorts!

As a religious person, I've found this movie very provocative, uncomfortable yet very intriguing. Truly the definition of art, a perfect masterpiece. The last 30 minutes probably the most intense scene I've ever seen in a movie for decades. It splits the audience, either a big fat YES or big fat NO. As for me, you've already got the answer. :angry-screaming: :angry-screaming:

I can't imagine this is especially popular in Indonesia, did it even get a release over there?

Why not put the '50s on hold for a year and do the 2010's this year, one year per month?

Well, as a film aficionado I already made this one. Far more than with music I keep up with what is new, so I have seen a lot. In fact, I could have gone to 200 easily, but I already made this list for another website, which allowed up to 100 and I like how tight a group it has become (the #100 is still very good in my opinion). There is always more to see and I will inevitably see more before the deadline arrives, but I'm not sure if I'll update this; when I consider a list done I want to move on (and there seem to many lists I have to make these days).

Well here goes:

I'll do a Top 120 for now, but I'm sure, that I'm forgetting a lot. I'll probably edit this list at a later point.

I started to get into movies in 2012 (before that I was too young). It's just a bit hard watching movies without a cinema near and no affordable way of getting to the city. So my list doesn't feature anything from 2019 and only few movies from 2018, but I'll change that soon. I also know that I've watched some movies at a certain point, but I feel like I disregarded them for wrong reasons and I'd have to see them again before making the decision of including them in this list. The Wolf of Wall Street comes to mind. Considering that my taste has changed immensely in the last few years, I'm actually planning on revisiting some movies.

So without further ado:

1. Phoenix (Christian Petzold, 2014)
2. Tabu (Miguel Gomes, 2012)

War...Apes is just as good if not better than the second entry, and miles better than the first. Such a quiet wintry action movie, while Dawn...Apes is such a standard storyline.

Sure, it's a Dutch forum were I used to be very active: https://www.moviemeter.nl/forum/18/15802/0#messages

I had to redo my list there, as it didn't include shorts. So, you can see which five films came next that aren't ranked on the list I posted above:

96. Tabu (Miguel Gomes, 2012)
97. You Were Never Really Here (Lynne Ramsay, 2017)
98. Kubo and the Two Strings (Travis Knight, 2016)
99. Jodorowsky’s Dune (Frank Pavich, 2013)
100. Further Beyond (Joe Lawlor & Christine Molloy, 2016)
