Films of the '60s: 1961

Post by Stephan »

You can post a list of anywhere between 1 and 20 films (or more, but only 20 will be counted) from the year we're covering. The deciding factor in terms of release dates is the RYM list and the top 10 of each year will go on to the final top 100 round. The deadline is January 31st.

The points scheme is as follows:
1. 50 points
2. 40
3. 35
4. 30
5. 25
6. 20
7. 18
8. 16
9. 14
10. 12
11. 10
10. 9
...
20. 1
However, these are the maximum amounts of points. If you want to put certain films on your list but don't want to give them too many points, you can choose to give these less points than in this scheme (but never more) to decrease the impact on the overall results. If you don't specifically state that you want to give (some of) your films fewer points, I will assume the standard scheme.

Here are some lists to remind you of the great (and awful) films released in 1961, from a variety of sources:
IMDb
RYM
Films101
RottenTomatoes

One question:

Is Human Condition one movie or three movies?

I'm in the middle of Human Condition, haven't gotten to part 3 yet. But based on what I've seen so far I assume I would list it rather high.

1. Leon Morin, Priest
2. La Notte
3. Last Year In Marienbad
4. Viridiana
5. Through A Glass Darkly
6. Yojimbo
7. Il Posto

I feel it's a trilogy, so part III (the best one) will top my list this year.

Congratulations Stephan! :music-guitarred:

It's interesting to see how these movies will manage in the final. It wouldn't surprise me a lot if Human Condition III is the highest ranked 1961 movie in the final. So far I've seen 16 (9+7) out of 20 finalists. Considering that I've seen only about 150 movies from the whole decade there's strong hint that there will be more and more the most seen films in the finals (especially when we move along to the 50s and earlier decades).
