AMF Book Club #1 - The Nominations
Rather than going through a list, randomized or not, I've decided that it would be better if users were able to nominated which book we read.
Here are the rules for nominations:
1. The book must be on this list.
2. You can only nominate one book or series.
The nomination period will end on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 PM UTC. After the nomination period ends we will move onto voting.
There is no schedule set in stone for this book club, simply after we're finished with a book or it's series we will nominate and vote again.

I'll nominate Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut.
Haven't read it and don't know anything about it, but I really liked Slaughterhouse-Five, so... yeah.

The Road - Cormac McCarthy
I haven't read anything by him, this seems like a good place to start.

Haruki Murakami's The Wind-up Bird Chronicle: it's the one book of the top 50 I haven't heard of and I imagine not many people who left it off their ballots have read it.

Gustave Flaubert's Sentimental Education
Just a thought: If everybody who wants to participate nominates something and then the same people vote for what will be read first, every nomination will receive exactly one vote. To avoid that, people could be forbidden to vote for their own nomination or we could rank the nominations.

While I will likely participate, I'll hold back on nominating - I figure it's best we don't have too many choices. I'm also planning to read through as many of the books that made the list as I can, so anything that I haven't already read before is good with me.

My plan right now is to allow people to vote for two books, rather than banning users from voting for the book they nominated which would be hard to do.Schüttelbirne wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 10:42 am Just a thought: If everybody who wants to participate nominates something and then the same people vote for what will be read first, every nomination will receive exactly one vote. Re: AMF Book Club #1 - The Nominations
I wasn't going to nominate a book since I'm the host of this book club, but I decided against this. I'm going to nominate Frank Herbert's Dune, I attempted to read it earlier this year but I couldn't finish it. I wanted to read it before the movie came out and it's trailer released earlier this week reminded me of my attempt.
