Welcome to the Quarter-Final Round of Moderately Acclaimed Albums 2019. Only eight albums remain in the tournament! Who will move to the Semis?

Vote for your favorite album in each match-up.
Remember, anyone can vote as long as the voter has heard both albums.

Good-spirited comments are encouraged, but not absolutely necessary.
Deadline = November 5th at 10am EST.

Here's a link to the bracket for the entire tournament:
http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?t ... Moderately Acclaimed Albums 2019

My picks:
1. Grimes - Art Angels vs. Bob Dylan - Desire
2. The Velvet Underground - VU vs. Pink Floyd - Animals
3. Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges vs. The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge
4. Tokyo Jihen - Kyōiku vs. Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek

I was wrong. There is an album in this tournament I like better than Animals.

I have two nominations left in the tournament... I just voted against one of them.

Thanks!

8. Grimes - Art Angels v. 6. Bob Dylan - Desire
5. The Velvet Underground - VU v. 7. Pink Floyd - Animals
1. Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges v. 2. The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge
4. Tokyo Jihen - Kyōiku v. 3. Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek

Made up to see an album as adventurous as New History Warfare make it this far :D

Predictions anyone? I can see whoever wins the Grimes-Dylan tie being crowned tournament champion, my money's on Art Angels

8 albums left. A great group, no dislike for any of them. Art Angels is what I'm rooting for in the absense of any of my picks making it through.

Grimes - Art Angels > Bob Dylan - Desire
The Velvet Underground - VU < Pink Floyd - Animals
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges > The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge
Tokyo Jihen - Kyōiku > Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek

When I nominated Stetson I had no expectations of him getting this far. Awesome an album like that is still in!

I actually learned about Stetson opening for TV On The Radio.

We both actually nominated that album. And I couldn't agree more! Who'd have thought an album as experimental and bizarre as that would be sitting here with obvious candidates like Bob Dylan or Pink Floyd

Quarter finals? One-line comments...

1. Bob Dylan - Desire (1976) vs. 7. Grimes - Art Angels (2015)
The battle of millennials vs. baby-boomers, digital vs. analog, art angels vs. rolling thunders. This is the story of a hurricane.

2. The Velvet Underground - VU (1985) vs. 3. Pink Floyd - Animals (1977)
Two minor works by two major bands. A concept album lesser than a collection of leftovers. Or so Lisa says. Stephanie too.

5. Colin Stetson - New History Warfare, Vol. 2: Judges (2011) vs. 8. The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge (1983)
jirin and acroamor are not the only ones surprised by Stetson success, Mark Burgess would be surprised too. Avantgarde glory.

4. 東京事変 - 教育 (2004) vs. 6. Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek (2014)
Sheena vs. Miyawaki, Japanese vs. Japanese American, a brilliant performer against a brilliant songwriter. Ātoenjeru Ringo…

For me, the best MAA quarter finalists I can remember. All albums I enjoy, and all close calls. The only one of these that I would rather didn't win the game is Animals, but I do prefer it to VU just a little.

Grimes - Art Angels vs. Bob Dylan - Desire
The Velvet Underground - VU vs. Pink Floyd - Animals
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges vs. The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge
Tokyo Jihen - Kyōiku vs. Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek

6. Grimes - Art Angels vs. 7. Bob Dylan - Desire
A choice between a consistent album (Art Angels) and a song that has higher highs, but also some lows (Desire). Art Angels wins on account of not having Joey, although it almost lost because it doesn't have Isis either.

5. The Velvet Underground - VU vs. 8. Pink Floyd - Animals
The easiest choice of the week. Animals is with a distance my least favorite of the ones left.

3. Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges vs. 4. The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge
The tightest race. Script of the Bridge is the last of the post-punk albums standing and it was the best. But I guess it is time to say goodbye.

2. Tokyo Jihen - Kyōiku vs. 1. Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek
Both are great, but still an easy choice. Mitski is amazing.

As I was evacuated from the No. Cal. wildfires all of last week I was unable to vote. I'm happy to at least break the tie with my pick of MITSKI - BURY ME AT MAKEOUT CREEK. (our house and property was saved and we are back home safe and sound)

Mitski takes it.

Rdwdbob - glad to hear all is well and you're safe. I can't imagine what the last few weeks have been like in CA. Hopefully the worst is over.

Jirin - I bought my copy on amazon then sent it elsewhere, where others have received it and have offered to make copies. Short of that, not sure if I can be of any more help (though it might not matter anymore).
