BMAA2019 - Early reveal thread

Post by Jirin »

Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2019 will open nominations officially on Dec 1st.

But I thought I’d start a thread for people who want to reveal their nominations early. No rush, just this will give them a better chance to make my year end list. :)

Mine will with 90% certainty be Saint Abdullah - Mechanical Flirtations.

I'm new to the EOY Moderately Acclaimed Album tourney, what are the criteria?

Does any nomination just need to be missing from the 2019 MCCh/have an average review score less than 70.0?

I believe it’s outside of the top 50 on McCh

Awesome, cheers acroamor! As things stand for me, I'm plumping for the goth-tinged psychedelia of The Whole of Each Eye by Abronia. Early predictions rest on FIBS and Trust in the Lifeforce..., both of which seem to have had a more enthusiastic response here than among the critics and either of which I'd welcome as winner!

The official rule is outside the top 50, years unofficial rule is “Use your judgement” when it comes to things officially eligible but may be against the spirit of the game.

Meaning albums like Charli and Jesus Is King that fall outside of the top 50 but that don’t exactly need a leg-up, I take it

To be honest the two best albums of the year will be for me:
Prince - Originals
Prince - 1999 deluxe edition

:)

But, for this game, i will nominate:
Andrew Bird - My Finest Work Yet
I still love it as much as I did after several months of listening to this album. There are no weak points for me.

I always take it as 'Hidden gems'. Charli is an example of an album that is actually quite well regarded and might likely do well on Year-End lists; Igor by Tyler the Creator is an even better example. To me, these albums feel to beloved to count.

Jesus is King is a strange matter onto itself, because despite it's fame it really isn't acclaimed.

My choice will probably be:

Rhiannon Giddens - There Is No Other
De gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum.

When the "probably"s become "definite"s, I'll start checking these out. Always great to explore these picks each year!
