Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2019

Post by Jirin »

It's December again, so time to start the year end poll, Beset Moderately Acclaimed Album of the year.

The way this game works is everybody gets to nominate one album. Officially, the album just can't be in the top 50 of Mega-Critic. But "Use your judgment" in determining eligibility because there may be albums that either came out late or were divisive enough to drag down their rating, but are sure to show up in year end polls. Albums that are officially eligible but go against the spirit of the game.

You have all the month of December to nominate albums, then all of January to listen to them and rank all the ones you were able to listen to from best to worth. The scoring is based on a win-loss formula so not rating an album will not either help or hurt it.

My nomination is Saint Abdullah - Mechanical Flirtations.

Since Faye Webster's Atlanta Millionaire's Club seems to be doing quite well in EOY already, I'll cast my nomination instead for William Tyler Goes West

currently #28 on the cumulative year-end list... just want to get an "official" ruling before I include it on my re-listen list for this game. Thanks!

It’s one of those cases where it’s technically eligible but not necessarily in the spirit of the game, up to the nominative.

Hi, after much deliberating with my rock/metal self, he decided he would take a step back in the nominations (sadly), as there is very little chance my rock nominations would get past the first round (Tool/Refused/Indoor Pets/Charly Bliss/Amyl & the Sniffers step aside please)

So here is my only "top album" nomination of 2019 which has some forum sensitivity :

Adia Victoria - Silences

Awww. Nudge me a bit more - and I will rescind my nomination !
OK then. Consider me nudged.

I'll swap my nomination for Amyl & the Sniffers' debut album.
But you'll have to console me if it fails at the first round :)

Come on Spiritualized, you know you would've got a vote for Amyl from me! Unless it clashes with FIBS. Or my own choice. But it'll get my nod over every other nomination!

Guys - this isn't a tournament - there are no "rounds." You just rank the nominations and Jirin matches them up with his patented "win/loss" formula to determine the overall ranking.

Just want to temper expectations!

My personal opinion is to go with your favorite - while the odds of winning are slim for every nomination, at least you can get more people to listen to something you like/love & potentially open their ears to sounds they wouldn't normally get to hear!

Been following that mantra for years now...and haven't managed to convince many people :(
Hence my spectacular failures at both weekly charts - I think my first Hof was this year's nomination of a Foals track.
I don't want to restart the whole "rock is dead" thread, but it feels more and more like it !

I nominate Georgia Anne Muldrow - VWETO II, as the chances for instrumental Soul/Hip Hop/Whatever are certainly much higher as for rock ;)

The groups name is ORBI, like the album.

All of the albums are on Spotify, at least around here. Also, besides my own ORBI, all of them are 60 minutes at longest and many are well below it. I'm used that these games give me several long albums, but this year everyone (artists included?) played it safe with length.

Is there a definitive deadline for the lists yet?
