Asylum Party - Play Alone - 1989
Coldwave, post-punk

Album: Borderline (RYM: 3.57/5)

Wikipédia:
Asylum Party were a French post-punk/coldwave band formed in 1985 in Courbevoie by guitarist-vocalist Philippe Planchon and bassist-vocalist Thierry Sobézyk. The duo later added keyboardist Pascale Macé. Their sound had gothic rock influences and was very similar to English post-punk bands. Asylum Party, along with fellow French coldwave bands of the same period such as Little Nemo and Mary Goes Round, were considered part of the "Touching Pop" movement (Sobézyk also played in the latter).

Post-punk.com: (12 juillet 2019)
It’s with great sadness to report that Thierry Sobezyk, bassist and co-vocalist of seminal French coldwave band Asylum Party, has passed away after a long battle with leukemia. The news was announced by fellow Lively Art labelmates Little Nemo, who shared the stage with Sobezyk many times over the years.

Asylum Party formed in 1985 by Thierry Sobezyk and Philippe Planchon. The band quickly rose as one of the shining stars of the French post-punk scene, often labeled as coldwave, (dubbed “la vague froide” by the French press) or Touching Pop, in line with many of their Lively Art labelmates. Sobezyk co-wrote, sang, and played bass on every Asylum Party release, including 1989’s Borderline and 1990’s Mère LPs, two of the strongest records the underground post-punk movement has to offer. He also designed the sleeve for the 1989 What Will You Learn EP, which featured the single “Misfortune?”

my feet cross the present ground
my voice is dead
i can only hear the sound
of my own shade
i'm filling that hole
which is just my soul, just my soul

desire somewhere inside me
is so close and so far anyway
it makes me see in white and black
this fucking endless movie i call life

mute love made me lose my faith
and still kills me
silent wars have changed my face
when will i be free ?
i'm playing alone with my poisoned dreams
poisoned dreams

desire somewhere inside me
is so close and so far anyway
it makes me see in white and black
this fucking endless movie i call life

Ti Raoul - man fwansiné - 2005
Bèlè

Album: Misyé bèlè

anpajbele.fr (DeepL translate)

The singer:
Ti Raoul or Ti Ayoul, whose real name is Pierre Raoul Grivalliers, is an emblematic and unavoidable figure of the Bèlè Samaritan. Son of Esther Cébarec and Calixte Grivalliers, he was born in the Peruvian district of Sainte-Marie on August 3, 1934.

He is above all the eldest of a line of eleven children who will write the saga of the Grivalliers and who includes other unavoidable members of the Bèlè: Berthé, now deceased, Clothaire and Fortuna. He is the father of three children.

It is said that it was on the lap of his aunt Clémence Boniface Cébarec that Ti Raoul was imbued very early on with the Bèlè Culture, a culture he would later ardently defend. He listens, observes and learns. The legendary figures of the time will teach him a lot: Esther, his mother, Clémence and Stéphane Cébarec, Galfètè, Jean Annette...

Very young, Ti-Raoul had to leave school to work in the "tibann". As an adult, he became an agricultural worker and did all the work related to the cultivation of cane.

As a teenager, his uncle Stéphane Cébarec gave him the opportunity to sing during the Swarés and we will soon notice his particular style and especially his nasal voice marked by the kadans bèlè which will sign his vocal identity. His uncompromising relevance then allows him to create and compose on the spot chan bèlè with acerbic lyrics that evoke the country's societal, economic, political and cultural problems.

At the beginning of the 1950s, his fame descending the mornes and arriving in Fort-de-France, Ti Raoul was invited to join Loulou Boislaville's folk ballet. They went on tour in France in 1952.

In 1953, Ti Raoul left with Raphaël PROSPA's group and recorded his first records with the Maison des Meringués directed by the Balthazard couple. He stayed in France until 1975.

During this long stay, he will obtain a CAP in building painting. He then practiced the profession of painter and Ti Raoul, no longer able to practice Bèlè, did not lose his vocation as a singer. His mother Esther claimed him, and after 12 years, he returned to the Peruvian quarter in Sainte-Marie.

After his return, he settled down as a farmer and made a living selling the various vegetables he planted and harvested himself. He lived for 28 years in the Chertine district in Sainte-Marie in the heart of the Samaritan countryside, which was to be a source of pleasure and inspiration for him.

This return to his homeland also allowed him to observe with surprise and satisfaction the development of the phenomenon of the emergence of Bèlè groups while he was in France. He therefore created his own group, "Kaspasa" then "TI Raoul and his Group".

The life of the Swaré Bèlè resumes and it's a success! Alongside Gran Zansyen such as Ti Emile, Siméline Rangon, Carmélite Rastocle or Félix Casérus, to name but a few, Ti Raoul made his mark on the Swaré with his undeniable talent. Dreadful and demanding, he does not hesitate to make observations or other remarks when a kavalié deviates from the codes, when a bwatè or a tanbouyé is failing. And, he is also appreciated in lawonn danmyé for the warlike energy he knows how to give to the fighters.

Ti Raoul is a true ambassador of the Danmyé-Kalennda-Bèlè Culture. He has travelled to France, Morocco, Spain, Canada, the United States, Guadeloupe and Cuba to promote this intangible heritage.

In 1988, his discography includes La Riviè Léza, an Apal production, followed ten years later by Mi Bèlè a.

In 2002 he made a much appreciated intervention on Kali's album Bèlè Boum Bap with two tracks, Mwen an trou krab la and Mizik sé twavay nou. He worked with Dédé Saint-Prix, a fervent defender of Chouval Bwa music. He can also be heard on recordings made in 1962 by Alan Lomax, some of which led to the production of a CD "Caribbean Voyage - Martinique".

Misyé Bèlè, an album released by Mizik Label, will sign his return to the forefront in 2004, for which he will receive a SACEM Award the following year.

Lived by many as a man with a difficult and inflexible character, he was not always understood. However, his outspokenness, his great concern for quality and rigour, and above all his special voice, which serves his formidable talent as a singer and leader of Swaré and Rendezvous Danmyé, are undoubtedly recognised.

In recent years, he has retired from the limelight. We hardly saw him in the swaré bèlè anymore. But, in 2016, on the occasion of the Swaré Bèlè of the Sanmdi Gloriya at Pitt Casérus in Sainte-Marie, he made a much appreciated appearance, full of energy, in the image of the uncompromising and uncompromising personality that is Ti-Raoul.

Misyé Bèlè passed away on December 18, 2017 after a long illness.

Bélé:
A bélé is a folk dance and music from Martinique, St. Lucia, Dominica, Haiti, Grenada, and Guadeloupe. It may be the oldest Creole dance of the creole French West Indian Islands, and it strongly reflects influences from African fertility dances. It is performed most commonly during full moon evenings, or sometimes during funeral wakes (Antillean Creole: lavèyé). The dance is also popular in Saint Lucia. In Tobago, it is thought to have been performed by women at social events in the planters' great houses, and the dress and dance style copied by the slaves who worked in or around these houses.

The term bélé also refers to a kind of drum found on Haiti, Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia.

Origin:
The bélé dance formed from a combination of traditional African moves and a Caribbean traits due to the changed landscape, musical instruments, and tumultuous lifestyle.

In Africa, the bélé dance had origins in festivals associated with mating and fertility. A male and female (in Creole, the "Cavalier" and the "Dam") show off their dance skills to the other dancer, hinting at their sexuality in chants led by a "chantuelle" meaning singer and the refrain or "lavway" given by a chorus of spectators. The cavalier and dam take turns dancing. The cavalier first demonstrates his prowess, then the dam reacts. The cavalier again courts with the dam, and the both dance in the wildest part of the bélé.

In the West Indies, the dance incorporated into work and periods of festivity and lamenting. Because the bélé dance ranged through so many diverse events and life-events, the dance and music continued to evolve over time from slavery into freedom. The French named the dance "Belaire," or good air, which shortened to bélé.

Sylvain Vanot - Il fait soleil - 2002
Chanson.

Album: Il fait soleil (RYM: 3,67/5)

Wikipédia: (DeepL translate)
Silvain Vanot is a French singer-songwriter, born in 1963 in Rouen. He is the author of seven albums and also composes music for the cinema.

Silvain Vanot was born in 1963 and grew up near Rouen. During his childhood, one of his uncles introduced him to rock music. He founded his first bands as a teenager. As a student in khâgne at the Lycée Victor-Duruy in Paris, he failed the agrégation de lettres exam. He taught French at the Saint-John Perse course while continuing to compose and write in the rock press. For six years, he sent demos to labels and radio stations without arousing their interest.

His first self-produced EP was released in 1992. One of his demos was noticed by the singer Jean-Louis Murat, who recommended him to his record company. Silvain Vanot's first album, recorded at the Davout studio, was released in 1993 by Delabel and Virgin Editions. Vanot supported Jean-Louis Murat on tour and performed at the "Festival des Inrockuptibles". His album sold 8,000 copies. Vanot worked on his voice with singing teacher Annette Charlot. His second album, Sur des arbres, was released in 1995. Marc Ribot and Dominique A took part in the recording. With the latter, he covered Marc Bolan's Seagull Woman, which he adapted into French. The album has a richer sound, thanks in particular to the string instruments. Silvain Vanot is touring as a headliner to promote the album. Sales reached 10,000 copies. In 1996, he played at the Printemps de Bourges festival and at the La Route du Rock festival.

The following year, he recorded his 3rd album at the Quad Studios in Nashville with new musicians, including Dominique Depret who later founded the group Holden. (Meanwhile) Tout brille, released in 1999, is composed of old tracks performed live in acoustic versions. Silvain Vanot writes a biography of Bob Dylan, published in 2001 in the music collection of Librio. His album Il fait soleil, released in 2002, was recorded at the Palais des congrès studio. The singer, who for the first time called in an artistic director, entrusted the task to Jacques Ehrhart. The album was arranged by Bernard Arcadio. The album opened with a cover of Jean-Roger Caussimon.

9,10 After breaking his contract with his label, Vanot devoted himself to composing film music. He worked on Jean-Marc Moutout's Violence des échanges en milieu tempéré and on several films by Henri-François Imbert, including Le Temps des amoureuses. In 2009, he returned to songwriting with his 6th album, Bethesda, recorded in Wales. The singer is notably accompanied by bassist John Greaves, drummer Iain Templeton and clarinettist Renaud Gabriel Pion.

In June 2016, he released a seventh album, Ithaque, on the 03H50 label, recorded alone, with the exception of contributions from John Greaves and Brad Scott.

Garou - Seul - 2000
Pop Rock, Adult Contemporary, Canadian

Album: Seul (RYM: 2.22/5)

Wikipédia:
Pierre Garand (born 26 June 1972), known by his stage name Garou (a diminutive of his last name "Garand"), is a Canadian singer and actor from Sherbrooke, Quebec.

He is known for his work in the musical Notre-Dame de Paris (playing Quasimodo in both the original French and English casts) and the No. 1 hits "Belle", "Seul", "Sous le vent", and "La Rivière de notre enfance". He currently holds the SNEP record for most weeks at No. 1.

Garou began playing the guitar at the age of three at the encouragement of his father (he also plays piano and trumpet). He went on to serve in the military and started a band in 1992 called the Untouchables. In 1997, he was discovered by Luc Plamondon while singing American blues tunes in a Sherbrooke bar. He was drafted by Plamondon to play the role of Quasimodo in his musical Notre-Dame de Paris, which made him a star in France.

His first album Seul became the best-selling French album of 2001 and remains one of the best-selling French albums of all time, achieving 2 million sales in Europe and going three times platinum in Canada.

He continued his string of hits with a live album and his sophomore effort Reviens in 2003. Sales for his third album Garou remained strong and he released his English crossover Piece of My Soul in 2008. The album debuted at No. 2 in Canada and No. 3 in France. Despite this, the album became his first album in France not to reach platinum status although it became his best-selling album in North America in seven years. His next album, Gentleman cambrioleur features cover songs in French and English and became his first album to miss the top five in France, where it modestly peaked at No. 35, staying on the charts for 17 weeks. He released Version Intégrale in 2010 which became another Top 40 hit in France and Canada.

Garou performed the Jean-Pierre Ferland song "Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin" (A Little Higher, A Little Farther) at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has also performed at the charity event Les Enfoirés for the past 19 years.

His latest effort Rhythm and Blues became his highest peaking album in four years. It is his second covers album and pays tribute to classic R&B music.

The song:
"Seul" is the name of a 2000 song recorded by the Canadian singer Garou. It was released on October 2000 as the first single from his debut album, Seul, on which it features as the fourth track. It achieved a smash success in France and Belgium (Wallonia) where it topped the charts for three months, and was a top ten hit in Switzerland. To date, it is his most successful solo single (Garou has other #1 in duets and a trio).

Tant de fois j`ai tenté
D`aller toucher les étoiles
Que souvent en tombant
Je m`y suis fait mal

Tant de fois j`ai pensé
Avoir franchi les limites
Mais toujours une femme
M`a remis en orbite

Tant de fois j`ai grimpé

Jusqu`au plus haut des cimes
Que je m`suis retrouvé
Seul au fond de l`abîme
Seul au fond de l`abîme

Celui qui n`a jamais été seul
Au moins une fois dans sa vie
Seul au fond de son lit
Seul au bout de la nuit

Celui qui n`a jamais été seul
Au moins une fois dans sa vie
Peut-il seulement aimer
Peut-il aimer jamais

Tant d`amis sont partis
Du jour au lendemain
Que je sais aujourd`hui
Qu`on peut mourir demain

On a beau tout avoir
L`argent l`amour, la gloire
Il y a toujours un soir
Où l`on se retrouve seul
Seul au point de départ

Celui qui n`a jamais été seul
Au moins une fois dans sa vie
Seul au fond de son lit
Seul au bout de la nuit

Celui qui n`a jamais été seul
Au moins une fois dans sa vie
Peut-il seulemetn aimer
Peut-il aimer jamais

Tant de fois j`ai été
Jusqu`au bout de mes rêves
Que je continuerai
Jusqu`à ce que j`en crève
Que je continuerai
Que je continuerai

Celui qui n`a jamais été seul

Au moins une fois dans sa vie
Seul au fond de son lit
Seul au bout de la nuit

Peut-il seulement aimer
Jamais, jamais

Je continuerai
Je continuerai

Peut-il jamais aimer…

So many times have I tried
To touch the stars
And while falling down
I often I hurt myself

So many times did I believe
That I have crossed the limits
But everytime a woman
Put me back into the orbit

So many times have I climbed
To the top of the highest peaks
But I found myself
Alone down in the abyss
Alone down in the abyss

He who has never been alone
Not even once in his life
Alone in his bed
Alone at the end of the night

He who has never been alone
Not even once in his life
Will he know how to just love
Will he ever know how to love

So many friends have left
Overnight
And I know today
That I could die tomorrow

It seems like we have everything
Money,love, glory
There will always be a night
When you find yourself alone
Alone right at the beginning

He who has never been alone
Not even once in his life
Alone in his bed
Alone at the end of the night

He who has never been alone
Not even once in his life
Will he know how to just love
Will he ever know how to love

So many time have I been
To the end of my dreams
That I will go on
Just until I break down
That I will go on
That I will go on

He who has never been alone
Not even once in his life
Alone in his bed
Alone at the end of the night

Will he know how to just love
Never, never
I will go on
I will go on

Will he ever know how to love

Cecil Leuter - Sad moments - 1985 - Electro
Library Music, Electronic, Ambient

Album: Altitude 3000 (RYM: 3.59/5)

Wikipédia:
Roger Roger (5 August 1911 – 12 June 1995) was a French film composer and bandleader. His aliases included Eric Swan and Cecil Leuter, the last being a pseudonym he used for his electronic productions. He was one of the first, with Pierre Henry and Jean-Jacques Perrey, to experiment with the Moog synthesizer; his Pop Electronique album was released in 1969, five years after Bob Moog put his electronic device on the market.

Roger died in Paris in 1995. Since his death, renewed interest in light music has seen several CD albums released, both in dedicated albums and in compilations, including music used under the test card by the BBC in the 1970s.

He is listed as the composer for two episodes of the Flash Gordon (1954) television series, and for the series' incidental music.

In 1971 he released the album Jungle Obssession, on Neuilly Records, with frequent collaborator of childhood friend Nino Nardini.

His piece "Komic Kapers" was used in the 1950s by the Commonwealth cartoon distribution company. They put it as the opening music when adding sound to many of Paul Terry's silent Farmer Alfalfa cartoons from the 1920s (also known as Farmer Grey). Although never chosen by Terry, Rogers's piece was indelibly imprinted on a whole generation of children as the signature tune for these strange, eerie, frantic cartoons.

Cocoon - On My Way - 2007
Folk Pop, Indie Folk, Indie Pop

Album: My Friends All Died in a Plane Crash (RYM: 3.30/5)

Wikipédia:
Cocoon is a French pop-folk band from Clermont-Ferrand (France) that sings in English. It was created in 2006 by Mark Daumail (born 6 December 1984), alongside Morgane Imbeaud. They released the albums My Friends all Died in a Plane Crash in 2007 and Where the Oceans End in 2010, which were defined by dual lead vocals from both, and by its coupling of mostly upbeat-sounding music and very dark lyrics.

The band's first album, My Friends all Died in a Plane Crash, was released on 22 October 2007. It proved to be an international commercial and critical success selling over 150,000 copies and certified platinum in France.

After their first album, Cocoon released the live CD/DVD, Back to Panda Mountains, on 7 September 2009. Following the release of a live CD/DVD, they went on a world tour, dubbed the "Baby Panda Tour".

In April 2010, the band started to record their second studio album, Where the Oceans End. This second record also went platinum, selling more than 150,000 copies worldwide.

In 2012, Cocoon entered a hiatus, due to the duo being tired after touring extensively, and wanting to focus on other projects.

During this hiatus, Daumail started to write songs while at the hospital, during his and his family's stay due to his son being born with cardiac problems. He soon realized that those songs were made for Coon, and contacted Imbeaud for a reunion. However, she was busy with other projects; she insisted that Daumail would do the new album without her, as its themes were more personal for him. He decided not to replace her by another female singer, and made the album as a sole member.

The album, Welcome Home, featuring Matthew E. White and Natalie Prass, was released in 2016 to similar commercial and critical success.

Indochine - 3e sexe - 1985

Album: 3 (RYM: 3.40/5)

Wikipédia:
Indochine (French pronunciation: [ɛ̃dɔʃin]) is a French pop rock and new wave band formed in Paris in 1981. It became very successful in the Francophonie, Europe and Latin America in the 1980s, with songs like "L'Aventurier" and "Canary Bay". Following the release of several critically acclaimed, but commercially unsuccessful, albums in the 1990s, the group returned to stardom with the release of Paradize in 2002. The band has sold over 10 million albums and singles, making them one of the best selling French bands.

1980s
Indochine (French for Indochina) was formed in 1981 by two Frenchmen in their early twenties, Nicola Sirkis and Dominique Nicolas, in Paris. They soon added Dimitri Bodianski, the cousin of one of Nicola's friends.

They gave their first concert at Le Rose Bonbon, a café in Paris on 29 September 1981. This brief performance on stage earned them their first contract with a record company.

They recorded their first single in November 1981. It included two songs, "Dizzidence Politik" and "Françoise", but drew more attention from critics than from the mainstream media and only reached a limited audience.

Stéphane Sirkis, Nicola's twin brother who had already performed with the band on stage, officially joined the band, and in April 1982 the group recorded their first album, L'Aventurier, which sold more than 250,000 copies. The album was well received by the press and by an emerging new wave audience.

L'aventurier is the song of the summer 1982 in France.

In 1983, Indochine released a second album entitled Le Péril Jaune ("Yellow Peril") which sold 225,000 copies. Indochine had by this stage become a major act in French music. In 1984, the band toured France. They were also successful in Scandinavia, most notably in Sweden.

By 1985, they had achieved a large following, reflected by the success of such songs as "Troisième sexe" ("third sex"), "Canary Bay", and "Trois nuits par semaine". Their third album, 3, sold 750,000 copies in Europe. Serge Gainsbourg directed the video to "Tes yeux noirs", one of the group's most successful songs.

Indochine becomes the largest "new wave" band in France.

In 1986, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the band, Indochine decided to release the recording of the concert given at the Zénith in Paris.

Their fourth album, 7000 Danses, produced by Joe Glasman, was released in 1987. It sold about 320,000 copies making it a successful album though far less so than its predecessor, 3. This is partly due to the band's efforts to produce a less mainstream, commercial album.[citation needed] 7000 Danses was also released amidst a polemic stemming from rock critics claiming that Indochine were a mere copy of British band The Cure. In spite of the polemic, the public continued to support the group.

In March 1988, Indochine began their world tour going to Montreal, Canada and Lima, Peru.[2]

In Lima, Peru sold 300,000 copies of the 33 tours Live au Zénith in early 1987, and also this is the only country in Latin America where the band was successful.

The single "l'aventurier" won the French awards "bus d'acier 1983".

Album:
3 is the third studio album by French new wave band, Indochine. It was released in 1985 in France, Germany, Canada, Japan and Sweden.

"3eme Sexe" was the inspiration for Mylène Farmer's song "Sans contrefaçon". Miss Kittin covered "3ème Sexe" for her album I Com.

In the street, lovely outfits
Made up like my fiancé
Boy, girl stunning appearance
Dressed up like my fiancée
Long hair, colored blond hair
Naked in an iron box
He's pretty, he's denigrated beautiful
Insulted but I don't care

I don't want to see her naked
I don't want to see him naked
And I love this blond-haired girl
And this boy who could say no

And we're holding our hands (x2)
A girl as such as a male
A boy as such as a female
And they were unworthy (x2)
And we don't need them anymore (x2)

Faces in golden hair
Which... forget their virtue
But it's not true
They don't look like a conquistador
Sexless when they're undressed
Who believe when you seem them just like that
Exciting all the little girls
Why we don't believe it like that
Isolated in a peninsula body

Long dresses for all the boys
Dressed up like my fiancée
For girl without forgery
Made up like my fiancé
Big confrontation for the most vicious

It's soon the witch-hunting
Unclear until the bottom of the eyes
The comeback of Jupiter

I don't want to see her naked
I don't want to see him naked

Baude Cordier - Tout par compas suy composés - late 14th - Classical
Ars subtilior, renaissance

Wikipédia:
Baude Cordier (born c. 1380 in Rheims, died before 1440) was a French composer from Rheims; it has been suggested that Cordier was the nom de plume of Baude Fresnel.

Cordier's works are considered among the prime examples of ars subtilior. In line with that cultural trend, he was fond of using red note notation, also known as coloration, a technique stemming from the general practice of mensural notation. The change in color adjusts the rhythm of a particular note from its usual form. (This musical style and type of notation has also been termed "mannerism" and "mannered notation.")

Ten of Cordier's secular pieces survive, most of which are rondeaux:
Some are in the rhythmically complex late fourteenth-century French style of ars subtilior, such as "Amans amés secretement" (Lovers, love discreetly).
Others are simpler, with greater emphasis on lyrical melody, such as "Belle, Bonne, Sage", also transcribed in HAM, and characterized with "Amans" as a rondeau.

Two of the composer's chansons are in the Chantilly Manuscript and are well-known examples of eye music:
The love song "Belle, Bonne, Sage" ("Beautiful, Good, Wise"). The manuscript is in the shape of a heart
A circular canon "Tout par compas suy composés" ("With a compass was I composed")—more eye music, in which the manuscript is written in a circle.

His mass movement in the Apt MS is in the later, simpler fifteenth-century style.

Ars subtilior:
Ars subtilior (Latin for 'subtler art') is a musical style characterized by rhythmic and notational complexity, centered on Paris, Avignon in southern France, and also in northern Spain at the end of the fourteenth century. The style also is found in the French Cypriot repertory. Often the term is used in contrast with ars nova, which applies to the musical style of the preceding period from about 1310 to about 1370; though some scholars prefer to consider the ars subtilior a subcategory of the earlier style. Primary sources for the ars subtilior are the Chantilly Codex, the Modena Codex (Mod A M 5.24), and the Turin Manuscript (Torino J.II.9).

Eye music:
Two examples of eye music from the early Renaissance are from Baude Cordier, (ca. 1380-ca.1440). Cordier's chanson about love Belle, bonne, sage is in a heart shape, with red notes (coloration) indicating rhythmic alterations. Eye-music-within-eye music is in the small group of notes hanging like a locket in the upper left, also all in red and in the shape of a heart. Another work of Cordier, this time inscribed in circles, Tout par compas suy composés ("With a compass was I composed"), goes out of its way to identify itself as eye music.

Manuscrit:
https://www.academia.edu/35696265/Baude ... 564_fol_12_
Text (Old French):

Tout par compas suy composés,
en ceste rode proprement
pour moy chanter plus seurement.
Regarde com suy disposés
compaing, je te pri chierement.
Tout par compas suy composés,
en ceste rode proprement.
Trois temps entiers par toy posés;
chacer me pues joyeusement,
s'en chantant as vray sentiment.
Tout par compas suy composés,
en ceste rode proprement
pour moy chanter plus seurement.

All with a compass am I composed,
properly, as befits a round
to sing me more surely.
Look how I am disposed,
companion, I pray you kindly.
All with a compass am I composed,
properly, as befits a round.
Three times my circumference enclosed;
you can chase me with joy,
if in singing you are true to me.
All with a compass am I composed,
properly, as befits a round
to sing me more surely.

Ultra Vomit - Evier Métal - 2017
Musical Parody, Heavy Metal

Album: Panzer Surprise (RYM: 3.08/5)

Wikipédia (DeepL translate)
Ultra Vomit is a French parodic heavy metal band from Nantes, Loire-Atlantique. The band was initially influenced by grindcore. Its songs generally contain humorous lyrics with a deliberately absurd side, influenced by the world of cartoons, advertising and popular culture in general. Part of their repertoire consists of covers of the Top 50.

Ultra Vomit started out as a grindcore band whose humorous touch was in the lyrics of children's songs like Bouba or Une Souris Verte, out of step with the violence of the music, and in gore themes taken with lightness. Ultra Vomit asserts itself as a parodic metal band with covers such as Pour un flirt by Michel Delpech in a hardcore punk version (renamed Pour un mosh) or You Can Leave Your Hat On by Randy Newman in a death metal version typified by Morbid Angel (Morbid Cocker).

The recipe of the light and harmless subjects is taken up and perfected, especially when mixed with the "evil" sound of black metal. Moreover, most of their songs use samples typical of certain artists, which makes the parodic side of their style all the more important. This leads them to explore many sub-genres of metal, and even other completely different genres of popular music. The grindcore roots are still present in many areas (especially the length of the songs), but are becoming more discreet with a lighter and more accessible overall sound. The richness of the band's musical style can be seen in the Outro of the album Objectif: Thunes where the same lyrics are repeated using a multitude of Metal declinations.

The band also works a lot on parody. This can be heard very well in the album Panzer Surprise! The various songs clearly evoke very famous bands of metal music. For example, Kammthaar evokes Rammstein, both in the music and in the name. Indeed, the grapheme "amm", similar sounds and the same number of syllables are found in the name. Among the other referenced bands, we can still recognize Gojira and Calogero in the song Calojira, Tagada Jones in the song A Giant Dog, AC/DC in Jesus, Motörhead in When I was a kid, Iron Maiden in Metal Sink or Maximum the Hormone and Babymetal with the title Takoyaki.

Lunatic - Pas l'temps pour les regrets - 2000
French Hip Hop, Boom Bap, Hardcore Hip Hop

Album: Mauvais œil (RYM: 3.71/5)

Wikipédia:
Lunatic was a French hip hop duo from Boulogne-Billancourt. The lineup consisted of Booba (Boulogne-Billancourt) and Ali (Issy-les-Moulineaux), coming from the department of Hauts-de-Seine in the west suburb of Paris.

After Lunatic split up in 2003, both members went on to solo careers. Their release "Le Crime Paie" was produced by DJ Mars.
[Intro : Ali]
Lunatic, Booba Ali, 92i
À la vie Inch’Allah, Général

[Couplet 1 : Ali]
Adam structure mon ADN

Canadian, chanson

Album: Live

Artist Biography by John D. Buchanan (Allmusic)
French-Canadian singer/songwriter Lynda Lemay has been a star in her native Quebec since the early '90s, and also has a large following in Europe, where her playful, poignant writing style is appreciated for its compassionate, literate, and often humorous approach to both the large and small requirements of contemporary life. With a novelist's eye for detail and an endearing ability to make light of her own phobias, Lemay writes melodic songs (almost always sung in French) that are fast becoming national treasures in Canada, and her popularity in France stems from her clear understanding of the French chanson tradition.

Lemay was born on July 25, 1966, and grew up in Portneuf near the St. Lawrence River outside Quebec City. She showed an early affinity for writing and poetry, and penned her first song by the age of nine. She learned to play the guitar in her teens and won the top spot in the Quebec en Chansons Song Competition by the time she was 18. Lemay concentrated on other literary pursuits (including a novel) after graduating from high school, eventually returning to music in the late '80s, soon becoming a regular on Quebec's "bars à chansons" circuit. She began to draw label interest after she won the Best Singer/Songwriter award in 1989's Granby Song Contest with her song "La Veilleuse." She released her first album, Nos Reves, in 1991. Her second release, Y, featuring music arrangements by Marc Perusse, followed in 1994, and was a huge success, eventually going double platinum.

Lemay married the Franco-Canadian comedian Patrick Huard in 1995. She toured Europe in 1996 and released an EP of mostly live tracks, La Visite, that same year. The release of her third album, Lynda Lemay, came in 1998, followed by a full-length live set in 1999. Du Coq à l'Ame appeared in 2000 and a second live set, Les Lettres Rouges, came out in 2002. A seventh album, Les Secrets des Oiseaux, appeared in 2003. Always a versatile writer, Lemay has also composed a folk opera, Un Eternel Hiver, which was staged in France in 2005. Un Paradis Quelque Part, her eighth album, was released that same year.

2006 saw the release both of a new studio record, Ma Signature, and the CD of Un Eternel Hiver. The next year she played a series of sold-out shows at Paris's famous Olympia venue, which were recorded and issued on the live disc 40/40. The studio albums Allo C'est Moi in 2008 and Blessée in 2010 were followed by her first Best Of compilation in 2011.
Comment t'as fait maman,
Pour savoir que papa
Beau temps et mauvais temps
Il ne partirait pas
Est-ce que t'en étais sûre
Ou si tu savais pas
Est-ce que les déchirures ça se prévoit.

Comment t'as fait maman
Pour trouver le bon gars
Tu l'as connu comment,
Tu l'as aimé pourquoi
Est-ce qu'il y en avait juste un
Dans tout le présent siècle
Et y s'trouve que c'est toi qui dort avec

Comment t'as pu trouver,
Un homme qui n'a pas peur
Qui promet sans trembler
Qui aime de tout son cœur
J'le disais y a longtemps
Mais pas d'la même manière
T'as d´la chance maman
Le plus fort c'est mon père

Comment ça s'fait maman
Que dans ma vie à moi
Avec autant d'amants
Avec autant de choix
Je n'ai pas encore trouvé
Un homme comme lui,
Capable d'être ami, père et mari

Comment t'as fait maman
Pour lui ouvrir ton cœur
Sans qu'il parte en courant
Avec c'que t'as de meilleur
Est-ce qu'il y a des mots magiques
Que t'as dits sans t'rendre compte
Explique-moi donc c'qu'y faudrait que j'raconte.

Comment t'as pu trouver,
Un homme qui n'a pas peur
Qui promet sans trembler
Qui aime de tout son cœur
J'le disais y a longtemps
Mais pas d'la même manière
T'as d'la chance maman
Le plus fort c'est mon père

Quand j'ai l'air d'les aimer
Les hommes changent de regard
Si j'ose m'attacher
Y s'mettent à m'en vouloir
Si je parle d´avenir
Y sont déjà loin derrière
J'avais raison d'le dire,
Le plus fort c'est mon père.

Vas-tu m'dire maman
Comment t'as pu savoir
Dès le commencement,
Qu'c'était pas un trouillard
Qu'il allait pas s'enfuir
Et qu'il allait tout faire
Pour que je puisse dire
Le plus fort c'est mon père

Quel effet ça t'as fait
Quand tu l'as rencontré
Est-ce que ça paraissait
Qu'il allait tant t'aimer
Les hommes bien souvent
Paraissent extraordinaires
Mais dis-toi bien maman
Qu´le plus fort...c´est mon père.

How did you manage, mum,
To know that dad
Rain or shine
He wouldn't leave you
Were you sure
Or didn't you know
Were the tears anticipated?

How did you manage, mum,
To find the right guy
How did you know him,
Why did you love him,
Was there just one
In this whole century
And you're the one sleeping with him

How could you find
A man that wasn't scared
That promises without trembling
That loves with all his heart
I said it a long time ago
But not in the same way
You're lucky mum
The strongest one is my father.

How come Mum
That in my own life
With so many lovers
With so many choices
I haven't found
A man like him yet,
Capable of being a friend, father and husband

How did you manage, mum
To open your heart to him
Without him running away
With the best part of you
Are there magic words
That you said without realising
Explain to me what I have to tell them

How could you find
A man that wasn't scared
That promises without trembling
That loves with all his heart
I said it a long time ago
But not in the same way
You're lucky mum
The strongest one is my father.

When I seem like I love them
The men change their look
If I dare to attach myself
They start holding it against me
If I talk about the future
They're already long gone
I was right to say it,
The strongest one is my father.

Are you going to tell me mum
How you could know
From the beginning
That he wasn't a coward
That he wasn't going to run away
And that he would do everything
So I can say
The strongest one is my father.

What effect did it have on you
When you met him
Did it seem like
He was going to love you so much
Men often
Seem extraordinary
But tell yourself mum,
That the strongest one... is my father.

Nemo - La dernière vague - 2003
Progressive rock

Album: Présages (RYM: 3.79/5)

Wikipédia:
Nemo is a French progressive rock band based in Le Puy-en-Velay Haute-Loire.

The band was founded by guitarist, singer and songwriter Jean-Pierre Louveton, and was initially influenced by Genesis and Ange.

Formed in 2000 in Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, France

progarchives:
This French band was rooted in '99 when Pascal Bertrand (drums and percussion), Jean-Pierre LOUVETON (guitar and vocals) and Guillaume Fontaine (keyboards) decided to make progressive rock music. In 2000 bass player Hervé Esquis joined NEMO but he was soon replaced by Benoit Gaignon. Early 2002 the band started to perform, their first concert was attended by at about 100 spectators. In July 2002 NEMO released their first album entitled "Les Nouveax Mondes", a few months later NEMO hosted again a new bass player named JB Itier. In this line-up NEMO released their second album entitled "Présages", they promoted this CD on the Crescendo Festival in the same year, along with ANGLAGARD, CAST and FOCUS. What a thrill it must have been to watch these progrock bands!

The second album "Présages is a stunning CD, in my opinion as innovative as RUSH and their guitarists has the same varied and inventive play as Alex Lifeson! The five dynamic and alternating compostions contain lots of great breaks and many changes of rhythm and atmosphere. Most of the music is based upon an adventurous, jazzy sounding rhythm-section, a harder-edged guitar and varied keyboards. The interplay between guitar and keyboards is amazing: bombastic with howling guitar and orchestral keyboards, swinging with acoustic guitar and jazzy piano (Chick Corea meets John McLaughlin) or symphonic with heavy guitar-riffs and flashing, very spectacular synthesizer solos. The French vocals sound convincing, this man has a wide range but his role is a bit limited, many parts of this CD are instrumental with lots of biting electric guitar solos and sparkling piano play. Recommended to jazzrock oriented progrock fans!
Déjà longtemps que les nuages
Cachent mon horizon
Abreuvant tous les paysages
Des pluies de mousson

Si je ne savais que l'histoire
N'est que répétition
Je me réfugierai dans l'espoir
De la belle saison

Mais l'eau est à mes pieds
Inondant les pavés
Déjà longtemps que je sais que

Dieu n'est pas là
Où on le croit
Si on y croit

Il est partout
Autour de moi
Et il se noie

Comment peut-on rêver d'Eden
dans un au-delà
en maculant de boue obscène
le paradis qu'on a ?

Comment vouloir d'une autre vie
Quand tout est sali
Moi le dieu que j'ai choisi
Vit tout près d'ici

Mais l'eau est à ses pieds
Dévoilant son reflet
S'abreuvant des larmes tombées

Dieu n'est pas là
Où on le croit
Si on y croit

Il est partout
Autour de moi
Et il se noie

[instrumental]

J'entends déjà les naufragés
Murmurant leurs supplices
Nul ne pourra nous sauver
Du ventre des abysses

Nous sommes lavés de nos pêchés
De la pire des façons
D'un coup d'éponge, effacés
Pour de noires raisons

L'eau est arrivée
Comme par le passé

Mais faut-il un autre Noé ?

Already a long time that the clouds
Hide my horizon
Watering all the landscapes
The monsoon it rains

If I did not know that history
Is not than only repetition
I will take refuge in the hope
In the beautiful season

But the water is at my feet
Flooding the cobblestones
I have known for a long time how

God is not there
Where we think him
If we believe it

He is everywhere
Around me
And he drowns itself

How can we dream of Eden
in an other side
smearing the obscene mud
the paradise we are?

How to want another life
When everything is dirty
Me the god i chose
Lives near here

But the water is at his feet
Unveiling its reflection
Watering himself with the fallen tears

God is not there
Where we think him
If we believe it

He is everywhere
Around me
And he drowns itself

[instrumental]

I can already hear the shipwrecked
Whispering their torments
No one can save us
From the bottom of the abyss

We are washed from our sins
In the worst way
With a sponge, erased
For the black reasons

Water has arrived
Like in the past

But do we need an another Noah?

Balladur - Kuda Lumping - 2019
Coldwave, post-punk, rock

Album: La Vallée Étroite

Section-26 (DeepL translate)
For half a dozen years now, Balladur has been delighting concert halls and other squats with a unique live show, placed in the middle of the audience, with a rather light set-up consisting of machines, guitar and microphones. In a sense, Balladur is an experience that goes beyond the classical concert setting where the audience is passive. The ensemble evokes as much, if not more, traditional festivals as the music of processions in Thai villages (Phin Prayuk). The music of the Villeurbanne duo reflects, in many ways, the search for communion and sharing at the heart of the group's approach.
Although the ensemble is dedicated to dance, it retains an eminent political dimension. This is true right up to the title of this new album, La Vallée Étroite, a direct reference to migrants trying to cross the Italian border through the mountains. In three long games, the band has refined a unique sound, a syncretism of influences as diverse as dub, music from all over the world (in its folk or popular form), dance music with a punk ethic and DIY, if the term still means anything. In a way, it's hard to imagine the French band anywhere else than Le Turc Mécanique (Bracco, Tôle Froide, Jardin). Indeed, the band and the label share a taste for the side-roads, those that piss off purists and delight the curious.
La Vallée Étroite is perhaps the duo's best album to date. It summons the listener to an ecumenical celebration where everyone can participate and let their imagination run wild. Right from the start, the hypnotic Kuda Lumping (a traditional Indonesian ceremony), Romain De Ferron announces: "It's party time, everyone's getting restless" in a maelstrom of post-punk guitars signed by the other thief, Amédée De Murcia.
The ensemble seems to have one foot somewhere in Asia, on the Indonesian side, and the other in Cologne in the Neu! rehearsal room, a toe wandering around the dancefloor. The cover of the Dangdut musician Caca Handika's classic Angka Satu gives Balladur the opportunity to explore a more pop facet of their music. The duo appropriates the original song while respecting its deepest essence, creating a deviant little hit.
At the same time, the group pays tribute to Joy Division through Les Poches Vides, a long ecstatic crescendo, a tunnel of light tearing through the mist. Islero's swaying groove evokes an unlikely encounter between Jamaican digital reggae and Marie and the Boys' növö punk in this very special diction. La Vallée Interdite, the title track, follows him and is one of the highlights of the album.
The poignant lyrics are sublimated by a delicate composition of synthesizers and layers of interlaced voice samples. Fortunately, Balladur is thinking of us. The landing is soft with Sonde Lambda and then Dans La 205, a cottony shoegaze odyssey whose melody strangely reminds us of Téléshopping. In a little over half an hour, Balladur signs one of the most endearing and original albums of the year. Free in its form, in its purpose, open to the world, La Vallée Étroite is a political and cultural celebration of brotherhood.

uKanDanz - Tchuhetén Betsèmu - 2016 - Jazz
Ethio-Jazz, Jazz-Rock, Math Rock

Album: Awo (RYM: 3.34/5)

The French quintet UKANDANZ, a self-described "Ethiopian Crunch Music" ensemble, is a multi-national group playing high-energy ethnic jazz/noise rock with melodies inspired by Ethiopian folk and pop music. They are fronted by the considerable vocal prowess of Asnake GUEBREYES, and sport a very lively ensemble sound, often danceable, sometimes dissonant, always rhythmic. Lionel MARTIN provides a very visible tenor sax presence, tying in a jazz element, and Damien CLUZEL contributes guitar (as baritone guitar) with strong evidence of Rock-In-Opposition-like stylings. Fred ESCOUFFIER handles keyboard duties, and Guilhem MEIER keeps the drums busy yet funky.

Position Parallèle - Tes lèvres - 2008
Synthpop, Minimal Synth, Coldwave

Album: Position Parallèle (RYM: 3.39/5)

Bio ?

...

Svastika

Jacques Pills et Georges Tabet - Couchés dans le foin - 1933
Chanson

In 1925, Georges Tabet conducted the Mac-Mahon Palace Orchestra, one of the capital's most chic dancings, which counted Jacques Pills and Jean Rigaux among its regular clients. One summer day, while he was playing in Sainte-Maxime, he received two telegrams, one from Ray Ventura inviting him to join his orchestra, the other from Jacques Pills offering to form a vocal duo with him to play at the Casino de Paris. Georges Tabet accepted Jacques Pills' offer.

At the Casino de Paris, the pair went on to create Couchés dans le hoin, a song by Mireille and Jean Nohain taken from their operetta Fouchtra. They also sing: Aux îles Hawaï, Un cabanon près de Toulon, C'est un vieux château du Moyen Âge and On n'a pas besoin de la lune.

They tour in London, New York and Hollywood.

The duo was forced to break up in 1939 when war was declared. Jacques Pills is taken prisoner of war.

Live version:

J'aimerais mieux qu'on m'injurie
Qu'on me pende ou qu'on m'expatrie

Eh bien tant pis

Lying in the hay
with the sun for witness
a little bird which sings far away
we make some confessions
and important vows and wishes
our hair is full of twigs.

We kiss and we wiggle around
Oh but life is sweet, sweet
lying in the hay
with the sun for witness

I mustn't hide from you
that I've always had a real horror of cows,
in my family it's wrong
Alas, the buullfigher occupation
has never been our strong point.

I would rather be insulted
than hung or exiled,
rather than touching an udder,
something worse in my life.

Thus I am unlucky,
and it's a pity
The farmer's daughter is charming
and we are the same age

By good luck for the lovers
there are other games in the open air
games that I like better
games that I like better

Lying in the hay
with the sun for witness
a little bird which sings far away
we make some confessions
and important vows and wishes
our hair is full of twigs.

We kiss and we wiggle around
Oh but life is sweet, sweet
lying in the hay
with the sun for witness

Juan Rozoff - Et alors ? - 1990
Funk

Wikipédia:
Juan Rozoff, born January 9, 1966 in Paris, is a French funk singer-songwriter.

Born in Paris in 19662, Juan Rozoff is the son of a Russian engineer-adventurer and a Spanish actress and poetess, Tachia Quintanar.

The media very quickly nicknamed him the "French Prince", which he easily accepted, adding maliciously "I'd rather be the French Prince than the Spanish Guy Béart".

He was the pioneer in the 1990s of the "new Parisian groove scene", paving the way for FFF, Sinclair, Vercoquin, Malka Family. He is still considered, in particular by Funk-U Mag magazine, as one of the main funk artists in France.

Multi-instrumentalist and outstanding showman, his concerts in France and abroad have for more than twenty years been winning over the enthusiasm of the public.

His talent also arouses the admiration of his peers. Juan Rozoff has thus seen internationally renowned artists such as Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley offer him their collaboration. He has also opened for giants such as James Brown, Larry Graham, George Clinton, Temptations, Maceo Parker.

Juan Rozoff has also participated in the albums of Disiz la Peste, Amadou et Mariam, David Guetta, Charles Schillings.

He also took part in the soundtracks of films by Philippe Harel (Extension du domaine de la lutte from Michel Houellebecq's eponymous novel), and Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache (Tellement proches). Juan Rozoff has also composed and performed titles for the shows of Jamel Debbouze and Julie Ferrier.

Matthieu Chedid (M) played several guitar parts on Juan Rozoff's latest album (Maison Rozoff) and Sandra Nkaké did the backing vocals on (Maison Rozoff) and (Abalorladakor).

Kyo - Dernière danse - 2003
Pop-rock

Album: Le chemin (RYM: 1.58/5)

Wikipédia:
Kyo is a French rock band with lead by Benoît Poher. The band was active from 1997 to 2005 with three albums Kyo (2000), Le Chemin (2003) and 300 Lésions (2004) and a string of singles. It announced a hiatus in 2005 without a definite break-up. In 2006, Kyo was involved in launching "L'Or de nos vies" written by Kyo and its lead singer Benoît Poher for the Fighting AIDS charity in 2006. Kyo had a comeback in 2013 with the album L'équilibre.

Since attending collège Notre-Dame in Yvelines, the two brothers, Fabien and Florian Dubos, and two friends Nicolas Chassagne and Benoît Poher, discovered they had the same passion for bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden.

At that time the band was named Spiritus Sanctus and they recorded their first demo on DAT with Dominique Gire.

In 1997, they met their future manager Yves Michel Akle, who convinced of their potential, introduced them to Sony BMG where they performed and were offered a contract. Their big break came when they performed during a big concert of David Hallyday, son of famous French rocker Johnny Hallyday, also appearing in the music video of one of David Hallyday's music videos as a backing band.

They have since released three albums and one DVD entitled Kyosphere. After limited success of self-titled debut album Kyo that sold around 40,000 copies, their sophomore album Le Chemin sold in comparison 1.5 million copies, and peaked at number 2 on the French Albums Chart. They retreated to a house in Brittany, where they worked on their new album 300 Lésions. That album went gold in four days with sales reaching upwards of 500,000 copies, and peaked at number 1 on the French Albums Chart.

In 2005, the band announced a hiatus, but without a definite break-up.

In June 2013, it was revealed that Kyo was planning a comeback and were in the process of recording material at Gang Studio with producer Mark Plati. The singles "Le Graal" and "L'équilibre", from the upcoming album, were pre-released at the end of January 2014.

Album:
Le Chemin is a 2003 album recorded by French pop-rock act Kyo. It was released on January 13, 2003, and achieved huge success in France and Belgium (Wallonia), where it was respectively #2 and #1. This album, entirely composed by the band, remains to date its most successful one. There is also an edition including a DVD.

It stayed on the charts for 65 weeks in Belgium, 98 weeks in France and 79 weeks in Switzerland. It provided four top 20 singles in France and Belgium : "Le Chemin" (#12 in France, #4 in Belgium, #14 in Switzerland), "Dernière danse" (#6 in France, #4 in Belgium, #14 in Switzerland), "Je cours" (#20 in France, #8 in Belgium, #41 in Switzerland) and "Je saigne encore" (#13 in France, #12 in Belgium, #39 in Switzerland).

The album was awarded 'Francophone album of the year' at the 2004 NRJ Music Awards.
J'ai longtemps parcouru son corps,
effleuré cent fois son visage.
J'ai trouvé de l'or

au long voyage.

Refrain

Refrain

I've travelled her body for a long time
Touched upon her face a hundred times
I've found gold
And even some stars wipe away her tears
I've learned the purity of her shapes by heart
Sometimes, I still draw them
It forms a part of me

I want just one last dance
Before the shadow and indifference
Dizziness then silence
I want just one last dance

I knew about it too soon, but it's not my fault
The arrow pierced my skin
It's pain which is kept
Which makes it all the more worse
But I know the story, it's already too late
In her look, you can see that she's preparing
For a long journey

I want just one last dance
Before the shadow and indifference
Dizziness then silence
I want just one last dance

I could die tomorrow, and it wouldn't change a thing
I've taken her hands
The happiness is anchored in my heart
And I saw her leaving without saying anything
It's only neccessary that she breathes
Thank you for having enchanted my life

Before the shadow and indifference
Dizziness then silence
I want just one last dance

Bob Azzam - Ya Mustapha - 1960
Egyptian

Wikipédia:
Wadie George Azzam, better known by his stage name Bob Azzam, (24 October 1925 in Cairo – 24 July 2004 in Monaco) was an Egyptian singer of Lebanese ancestry. With his international hit song "Mustapha", Azzam achieved success in France in the 1960s.

Azzam began his career in Italy in the late 1950s, with his band, singing in Italian and in English. In 1960, he released two songs in France that were influenced by oriental music, "Ya Mustafa" ("Chérie je t'aime, chérie je t'adore, como la salsa de pomodoro") and "Fais-moi du couscous, chérie". The same year, he received the Grand Prix du Disque for the song "Viens à Juan les Pins".

After this era, his success began to decline. However, Azzam continued his career by touring with his orchestra, and opened his own night club in Geneva.

Jonathan Richman, Rachid Taha and, most recently, La Bande à Basile have all performed covers of the songs "Mustafa" and "Fais-moi du couscous, chérie".

Song:
"Ya Mustafa" also spelled "Ya Mustapha" (in Arabic يا مصطفى), is a well-known multilingual song of Middle-Eastern origin, composed by famous Egyptian Musician Mohammed Fawzi (1918–1966) which has been recorded in many different languages. Several different versions, including parodies, have been recorded. The song first became popular in Europe with the help of the Egyptian singer Bob Azzam, who released it in 1960 in France

Alain Bashung - Tant de nuits - 2008
Chanson, Folk Rock

Album: Bleu pétrol( RYM: 3.66/5)

Wikipédia:
Alain Bashung (French: [alɛ̃ baʃuŋ]; born Alain Baschung 1 December 1947 – 14 March 2009) was a French singer, songwriter and actor. Credited with reviving the French chanson in “a time of French musical turmoil”, he is often regarded in his home country as the most important French rock musician after Serge Gainsbourg. He rose to prominence in the early 1980s with hit songs such as "Gaby oh Gaby" and "Vertige de l'amour", and later had a string of hit records from the 1990s onward, such as "Osez Joséphine", "Ma petite entreprise" and "La nuit je mens". He has had an influence on many later French artists, and is the most awarded artist in the Victoires de la Musique history with 12 victoires obtained throughout his career.

Bashung’s Play blessures (1982), Osez Joséphine (1991), and Fantaisie militaire (1998) have made multiple French lists of the greatest albums. L'Imprudence (2002) and Bleu pétrole (2008), the last two studio albums released during his lifetime, also garnered acclaim. Bashung died at 61 after a two-year fight with lung cancer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_Bashung

Album:
Bleu pétrole (Petrol blue) is the twelfth studio album by the French rocker Alain Bashung, released in March 2008 on Barclay Records. It is his last studio album released during his lifetime.

Great expectations surrounded Bleu pétrole after L'Imprudence, issued in 2002, and the live album La Tournée des grands espaces, issued in 2004. Bashung took time to work on it, before deciding finally to not work with his lyricist Jean Fauque, choosing instead to work with Gaëtan Roussel of Louise Attaque and Gérard Manset. After the more experimental works of the 2000s, Bashung decided to go back to a more traditional rock-sounding album, closer to his works of the 1990s.

The album is dedicated to Mick Larie, a member of Bluegrass Long Distance, who died in July 2007, the mandoline player and friend of Marcel Dadi and Patrick Sébastien. The first single from the album was "Résidents de la République" ("Residents of the Republic").

Bashung began touring to promote the album and sang "Comme un lego" ("Like a lego") by Gérard Manset as the opener of his concerts. On 7 July 2008, an expanded vinyl collector edition of 1,000 copies was issued.

Bleu pétrole was the last studio album by Alain Bashung, who died on 14 March 2009.

In 2010, the French edition of Rolling Stone magazine named this album the 46th greatest French rock album (out of 100).

The French magazine Les Inrockuptibles called the album an "immense chef-d'œuvre" (a huge masterpiece).

Mon ange je t'ai haï
je t'ai laissé aimer
d'autres que moi
un peu plus loin qu'ici

Mon ange je t'ai trahi
tant de nuits, alité
que mon cœur a cessé
de me donner la vie

Si loin de moi
si loin de moi
si loin de moi

Des armées insolites
et des ombres équivoques
des fils dont on se moque
et des femmes que l'on quitte

Des tristesses surannées
des malheurs qu'on oublie
des ongles un peu noircis
des ongles un peu noircis

Mon ange je t'ai puni
à tant me sacrifier
icône idolâtrée
immondice à la nuit

Mon ange je t'ai haï
je t'ai laissé tuer
nos jeunesses ébauchées
le reste de nos vies

Si loin de moi
si loin de moi
si loin de moi
si loin de moi

Des armées insolites
et des ombres équivoques
des fils dont on se moque,
et des femmes que l'on quitte

Des tristesses surannées
des malheurs qu'on oublie
des ongles un peu noircis
des ongles un peu noircis

Mon ange je t'ai haï
mon ange je t'ai haï.

My angel I have hated you
I have left you to love
Others than me
A bit further on from here

My angel I have betrayed you
So many nights, bedridden
My heart has ceased
To give me life

So far away from me
So far away from me
So far away from me

The strange armies
The ambiguous shadows
The sons that one mocks
And the women that one leaves

The outdated sadnesses
The misfortunes that one forgets
The fingernails a little dirty
The fingernails a little dirty

My angel I have punished you
So to sacrifice myself
Idolized icon
Filthy things in the night

My angel I have hated you
I have left you to kill
Our sketched-out youths
The rest of our lives

So far away from me
So far away from me
So far away from me
So far away from me

The strange armies
And the ambiguous shadows
The sons that one mocks
And the women that one leaves

The outdated sadnesses
The misfortunes that one forgets
The fingernails a little dirty
The fingernails a little dirty

My angel I have hated you
My angel I have hated you

Casino Music - Viol af 015 - 1978
Synthpop

Wikipédia (DeepL translate)
At the end of the 1970s, Gilles Riberolles and Eric Weber, high school friends, shared a house in Saint Mande near the Bois de Vincennes on the outskirts of Paris. The cellar was soon transformed into a rehearsal studio. Didier Esteban, the brother of Michel Esteban, the boss of the concept store "Harry Cover" in Les Halles and co-founder of the New York label ZE Records, and Philippe Chany, who would later compose the hit "C'est la Ouate" for Caroline Loeb, joined them in the first formula of a group that was to become Casino Music.

The group was then managed by Alain Wais, music critic for the newspaper Le Monde, who released a first single "Burger City/ Viol AF015" in 1978 on "Vid Ordur", the label of Alain Maneval, a Parisian radio host. Gilles Riberolles is also a journalist for the magazine "Best".

Michel Esteban convinced the band to sign on ZE Records, resulting in a recording in New York at the mythical Blank Tapes Studios, Chris Stein the leader of the band Blondie in production with whom Riberolles has become friends in the meantime.

Casino was then composed of Gilles Riberolles on guitar and vocals, Eric Weber on bass, Jean Michel Lemeur on drums and Anatole Mundi on keyboards. The four Frenchmen were joined by the New Yorkers Allen Wentz on synths, Chris Stein did some guitar solos, Tom Malone the Blues Brothers trombone/six arranged the brass, Ron Rogers on piano and percussion. The hearts will be provided by Aural Exciters member Christine Wilshire, Mary Seymour and Gina Tharps.

Cristina will come to do a cameo, while Gilles will return the favour on "La poupée qui fait non" produced by August Darnelll.

The album will be mixed at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas by Island records boss Chris Blackwell, whom Esteban managed to convince. Steven Stanley, sound engineer of Lizzy Mercier Descloux's "Mambau Nassau" and future member of Tom Tom Club is behind the console.

For the cover Esteban brought in one of his acquaintances, Richard Brenstein, who is responsible for all the covers of Andy Warhol Interview magazine. The album was released in 1979 in French version "Amour Sauvage" and English version "Jungle Love".

In spite of a very good critical reception of the album distributed throughout Europe and Japan and of the Parisian concerts of the group with Blondie or the B52' at the Palace, sales were disappointing.

In 1981 Esteban will produce a last single with Casino Music " Go Go Word, Encore Hardcore " and an excellent cover of Sonny and Cher's hit " The Beat Goes On ".

In 2010 ZE Records will re-release in Japan distributed by P.Vines Records the album " Jungle Love " with all the French and English versions of the first album as well as all the versions of the last single and unreleased tracks recorded at Compass Point Studios.

In June 2011, thirty-two years later, "Frenchy but Chic" is back. Frédéric Sanchez sound designer of the fashion shows of the biggest brands of Prêt à Porter selects Casino Music in the summer play list of the famous French Vogue.

Elle m'invite, j'me bouscule
Ses yeux mitraillent, orange
Je la rattrape dans les toilettes
Puis cherche mes lunettes à rayons "S"

All these people from the airport
Do not even get to have fun anymore
Their chameleonic powers
Broke my machine to read thoughts
I dream of my bright space
But why think in French?
A girl crosses my field of vision
She has hips with golden angles
She invites me, I jostle
His eyes shoot, orange
I catch her in the toilet
Then look for my ray glasses "S"
She notices me, and I read the boredom
I rape her !!!
Departure Mexico City
'Cause at home love and sex
Have only one name that says
Like that
And even !!!
And even !!!
Aaaahoww
He spends time, sometimes, too quickly
I know, but it's the only thing that makes me move
Will not we end up at your house?
I know, but I think she liked
Go home, you better get in
I know: the master needs me

Arcane - L'incendie - 2017
Rock.

Arcane-groupe.fr (DeepL translate)
ARCANE is a rock band from Lyon whose compositions oscillate between "groove" and "rock" in a poetic universe carried by lyrics written in a totally assumed French.

ARCANE's music is not a "Frenchie" version of English or American bands but the result of the meeting of five musicians for whom the stage remains essential. It is in "live" that you must listen and see ARCANE in order to better discover the foundations of the group.

ARCANE is thus the symbiosis of five musicians whose very diverse influences give the band its own personality and singularity.

Luciani claims Françoise Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg, Nico, Michel Legrand and Paul McCartney as influences
Suis-moi
Dans la ville blafarde
Et je te montrerai
Comme je mords, comme j'aboie
Prends garde, sous mon sein la grenade
Sous mon sein là regarde
Sous mon sein la grenade
Prends garde, sous mon sein la grenade
Sous mon sein là regarde
Sous mon sein la grenade

Hé toi
Mais qu'est-ce que tu crois ?
Je ne suis qu'un animal
Déguisé en madone
Hé toi
Je pourrais te faire mal
Je pourrais te blesser, oui
Dans la nuit qui frissonne
Prends garde, sous mon sein la grenade
Sous mon sein là regarde
Sous mon sein la grenade
Prends garde, sous mon sein la grenade
Sous mon sein là regarde
Sous mon sein la grenade

Hé toi
Qu'est-ce que tu t'imagines ?
Je suis aussi vorace
Aussi vivante que toi
Sais-tu
Que là sous ma poitrine
Une rage sommeille
Que tu ne soupçonnes pas ?
Prends garde, sous mon sein la grenade
Sous mon sein là regarde
Sous mon sein la grenade
Prends garde, sous mon sein la grenade
Sous mon sein là regarde
Sous mon sein la grenade
Prends garde

Hey you
What are you looking at?
You've never seen a woman fighting
Follow me
In the pale city
And I will show you
As I bite, as I bark
Be careful, under my breast, the grenade
Under my breast there look
Under my breast the grenade
Be careful, under my breast, the grenade
Under my breast there look
Under my breast the grenade

Hey you
But what do you think?
I am only an animal
Disguised as Madonna
Hey you
I could hurt you
I could hurt you, yes
In the night that shivers
Be careful, under my breast, the grenade
Under my breast there look
Under my breast the grenade
Be careful, under my breast, the grenade
Under my breast there look
Under my breast the grenade

Hey you
What do you imagine?
I am also voracious
As alive as you
Do you know
That there under my chest
An anger sleeps
That you do not suspect?
Be careful, under my breast, the grenade
Under my breast there look
Under my breast the grenade
Be careful, under my breast, the grenade
Under my breast there look
Under my breast the grenade
Be careful

Jean-Noël Dupré - After Shave - 1972
Pop, Groove

Wikipédia:
Jean-Noël Dupré, born on June 14, 1946 and died on March 21, 2008, is a French singer and songwriter.

After shave
After shave
Dis-moi quel est ton…
After shave

Made in Paris s'exporte, un rêve de savane

refrain

After shave
After shave
Tell me which one is your…
After shave

Do you open your shutters over a wet garden?
Your door to the pale sun sliding on the threshold
Does your house stay locked in the winter?
In the city that is dying and slowly shattering

After shave
After shave
Tell me which one is your…
After shave

What oxygen do you put in the palm of your hand?
One that is made in Paris and exported, a savannah dream
The metropolitan's sleepwalker escape
Plus ten more francs for the next Latin one

After shave
After shave
Tell me which one is your…
After shave

Did you put your right foot on the light dress?
That the stranger yesterday took away with the tips of her fingers
The atmosphere in vials, vials in the atmosphere
Do you turn the knob to find a voice?
Who tells you

After shave
After shave
Tell me which one is your…
After shave

Sylvie Vartan (French pronunciation: [silvi vaʁtɑ̃]; born Sylvie Georges Vartanian, Bulgarian: Силви Жорж Вартанян; 15 August 1944 in Iskrets, Sofia Province) is a Bulgarian-French singer and actress. She is known as one of the most productive and tough-sounding yé-yé artists. Her performances often featured elaborate show-dance choreography, and she made many appearances on French and Italian TV.

Yearly shows with then-husband Johnny Hallyday attracted full houses at the Olympia and the Palais des congrès de Paris throughout the 1960s and mid-1970s. In 2004, after a break in performances, she began recording and giving concerts of jazz ballads in francophone countries.

Song:
"La Maritza" is a song by Sylvie Vartan from her 1968 album Sylvie Vartan (also known as La Maritza). It was also released as an EP and as a single.
The song was written by Jean Renard and Pierre Delanoë.

In France the song was released on an EP (La Maritza / Un p'tit peu beaucoup / Jolie poupée).

In Wallonia (French Belgium) the EP charted as a double A-side "La Maritza / Un p'tit peu beaucoup". It spent 19 weeks in the singles chart, peaking at no. 4.

The song "La Maritza" also reached at least in the top 4 in Finland in 1970.

La Maritza c'est ma rivière,
comme la Seine est la tienne,
mais il n'y a que mon père
maintenant qui s'en souvienne
quelquefois...

De mes dix premières années
il ne me reste plus rien,
pas la plus pauvre poupée,
plus rien qu'un petit refrain
d'autrefois :

The Maritza is my river
Like the Seine is yours
But there is no one but my father
Now, who remembers that
Sometimes...

From my first ten years
There is nothing more left
Not the most poor doll
plus rien qu'un petit refrain
Nothing more than a small chorus
From the past...

All the birds from my river
Sang to us the freedom
Me, i didn’t scarcely understand
But my father knew him
Listen...

When the horizon became too dark
All the birds were gone
On the path of hope
And we have followed them
To Paris...

Spoken: From my first ten years
There is nothing more left, nothing
Sung: And yet, with the closed eyes
Me, i hear my father singing
ce refrain...
This chorus...
Lalala
