The star (*) indicates the album did not make the draw, due to insufficient nomination rankings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each week, four match-ups will be presented: one from each of the four quadrants in the bracket, starting at the top then going to the next match-ups in each quadrant the following week.

For example, starting March 10th (Week 1) the match-ups will be:
1. Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd) vs. Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert
2. Suede - Coming Up vs. Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement
3. Fennesz - Black Sea vs. Edan - Beauty And The Beat
4. Noir Désir - 666,667 Club vs. Lucy Dacus - Historian

Week 2 match-ups will be:

2. Buddy Holly - Buddy Holly vs. Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst
3. The Chills - Submarine Bells vs. Nadine Shah - Holiday Destination
4. The Upsetters - Super Ape vs. Azealia Banks - Broke with Expensive Taste

...and so on.

There is a Predict-It opportunity on the Bracket Master website. If interested, please be sure to fill out complete bracket by March 10th. No prize will be rewarded (I'm cheap!).

If I missed anything (I usually make a mistake or two - don't panic!) or if you have any questions please let me know!

Also - If one of the moderators wouldn't mind sticking this to the top of the forum list, I'd appreciate it!

This makes my day! The entire discography from one of my favorite artists.

I just saw the self-titled album would compete against Semper Femina in round 2 and will definitely lose that matchup.

Is there any reason why Super Ape is in the 4th quadrant despite being ranked as high as #1077?

Maybe for future versions of this, submitting lists of 10 won't be necessary. 6 or 8 would do the trick, it seems.

Both bonnielaurel and I had "Nina Hagen Band" at #3; bonnielaurel's nomination got it through first.

It's a sure thing that one of my nominations is going to the second round this time cos two of my nominations are facing each other :D

I think this was meant to not happen anymore, but I really don't mind.

Yes, PlasticRam, I can see that now and I apologize. There were a couple others and I thought I had fixed them all but missed that one. Sorry about that!

My #9, Horse Rotorvator is in, but perhaps it would have gotten in without my nomination, depending on were it ranked on the other person's list.

Just filled in the predictions only to find that they are very, very close those of Mileswide. I hope we are both wrong about Depeche Mode coming very far, as after those four songs in the eighties poll I have heard enough Depeche Mode for the next five decades or so, but I fear otherwise.

The match-up between Ekseption and Rachmaninoff is (unintentionally?) funny.

Horse Rotorvator got in via CupOfDreams' #2 ranking... I made this draw without going beyond anyone's #5 nomination, which is unusual but definitely speaks to Listyguy's point.

I generally like to jot down the length an album before I listen to it, to know beforehand how much time I need and how long I have to concentrate. So I did that for these albums.
Most of these albums have normal length, but here are the ones with a running time of over one hour:

Various Artists - Eurovision Song Contest: Lisbon 2018 (129 min)
Wayne Shorter - EMANON (127 min)
Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone (103 min)
Yoko Ono - Fly (95 min)
Drake - Take Care (80 min)
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein (74 min)
Sigur Rós - ( ) (72 min)
Alanis Morissette - Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (72 min)
Janelle Monáe - The ArchAndroid (69 min)
Axel Rudi Pell - The Masquerade Ball (68 min)
Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst (66 min)
Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert (66 min)
The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding (66 min)
Milton Nascimento & Lo Borges - Clube da Esquina (64 min)
Emeralds - Does It Look Like I'm Here? (62 min)
Taraf de Haidouks - Band of Gypsies (62 min)
Dinosaur Jr. - Farm (61 min)
Damien Rice - O (61 min)
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (60 min)
Azealia Banks - Broke with Expensive Taste (60 min)

And here are the ones with running times under half an hour:

Buddy Holly - Buddy Holly (25 min)
Ritchie Valens - Ritchie Valens (25 min)

From everything I could find about Marion Jola's album Marion, it's a 2019 release and should be ineligible? I'm not sure.

It would take a brave person to bet against mine + Rob's predicted winner seeing as it's one held dear by the forum (justifiably), even if it seemed forgotten by the critics in the EOD rankings.

Interesting clashes here, not least King of Cool Lou Reed vs. Contest of Kitsch Eurovision! (not having a go at EV, they're just two worlds you couldn't imagine overlapping)

I think I said something along the lines of "If The ArchAndroid or Lift Yr Skinny Fists gets nominated, they'll mow through the tournament" during the nomination process last year, I guess everybody else agrees with me.

I don't mind the predictions, but during the tournament please choose based on your personal album preference, NOT where you selected them in the Predict-It bracket. It sounds like everybody's got their mind's made up as to who's going to win, but in a game where Saint Etienne can knock off The Beatles, surely other upsets can occur.

I doubt anyone has attentively listened to half the albums here - please give them all a chance. Your Predict-It bracket should not dictate your choices! This tournament is intended to help us explore lesser known albums, NOT crown the nominator or Predict-It winner. There are no prizes, so vote for what you truly like... please! That way, we all win.

Just to get ahead of this, the album was uploaded to most places including a selection of bonus tracks - the real album goes to track 14, Spiral of Ants - a much more modest 59 minutes.

I don't think anyone votes for the predictions, at least not as far as I can tell. My predictions and wish-list don't match-up; I won't let Depeche Mode get far if I have any say over it.

When you grow up, you're going to bovine university! But I'll be fair, the number of preconceptions I'll have about the Eurovision entry will be equal to the points Jahn Teigen came away with in 1978....

It's got the highest ratio of goofy songs among their albums but I'm hoping the likes of You Are the Everything and World Leader Pretend will leave us all with no choice but to vote for it!

And Schüttelbirne's right, Discogs, Allmusic & Wikipedia all have Marion as 2019. It might be worth requiring nominators to list the release year to avoid a repeat.

I’m glad that means you’ll have no preconceptions then! Great thing about Eurovision is not knowing what to expect.

I had missed this, but don't think it's crucial that everyone lists the release years (I have a hard enough time getting people to list the ranking!). I think this is the first time it's happened, so I'll just re-emphasize the rule next time. Thanks Schüttelbirne for calling this out!

As per usual I have looked up the availability of the albums on Spotify. Most are there of course, but the following I could only find on YouTube:

Max Roach – We Insist! Max Roach’ Freedom Suite Now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsvFzXr-o-8
Nina Hagen Band – Nina Hagen Band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPXMsK_qGdw
Nina Hagen Band – Unbehagen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FitkUlgZwx8
Shiro Sagisu – The End of Evangelion: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... hfjwgGmKde

StevieFan wants to make a Eurovision Playlist for YouTube, but there is no need. There are several already for both Spotify and YouTube.

There is one album I couldn't find anywhere:
Electra - Adaptionen

Does anyone (the nominator?) knows were to find it online?

It's here.
But only the first six tracks; the following tracks are from their next album Die sixtinische Madonna.

Is it unavailable in some countries?

Seems the same in the UK (only In der Halle des Bergkönigs is playable on Spotify, while YouTube doesn't have the original studio recording of Säbeltanz). I've ordered it on CD off Discogs and can post it round for any British (or even European) AMers should the need arise.

For me (in the US) the first one does NOT work but the other two do.

Here's all six tracks in Youtube videos. I hope they all work. If they do, someone could make a playlist.

Borodin-Suite:
Bach '75:
Säbeltanz:
Prélude cis-Moll op.3 Nr.2:
In der Halle des Bergkönigs:
Türkischer Marsch:

These all work - I'm confused as to why there are some duplicates (?). Is this the entire album?

They all work here as well, except the first Säbeltanz video in the first post.
But like Brad I would like to know which version to pick for a playlist? I guess, based on the few seconds I heard of each video, the sound quality varies enormously from video to video.

There's six tracks on the album:

Borodin-Suite (13:14)
Bach '75 (6:30)
Säbeltanz (6:07)
Prélude cis-Moll op.3 Nr.2 (4:43)
In der Halle des Bergkönigs (3:29)
Türkischer Marsch (3:40)

My second post with videos contains eight videos, ergo there are two duplicates:
Bach '75 -> It doesn't matter which version is used for a playlist, because they are both of the same quality (as far as I can hear, at least).

Prélude cis-Moll op.3 Nr.2 -> Use the first version. The second one sounds like a recording of the album being played. Sadly, for "Säbeltanz", that's the only version I could find, which means that its quality is suboptimal.

I edited my second video post.

It's interesting to look at everyone else's predict-it brackets. It seems like almost every single one has the same match-up for Game 100 - The Archandroid versus Have You In My Wilderness, and almost 70% of the predicted brackets has one of those two taking the crown! Doing some quick math, that won't be happening until September 15th, but that will be the one to make or break the admittedly low-stakes showdown.

What's a good place to find the Nina Hagen Band albums? I only checked Spotify, are there good Youtube collections for them?

Under albums, yes, but if you search for playlists it is easy to find several complete compilations. Like this one:

Going on the hope that that playlist has all the final versions of the songs. I sent the one I made to Brad. That one was in alphabetical order (or at least how the track list for the CD looked) as opposed to by how the songs ranked.

I haven't researched that playlist, so I don't know. Why not share your own playlist here if you have one, so people can listen to it in advance?

Is there a shorter list of songs from this contest I should be listening to? Trying to listen to it now and the first couple are so overtuned they're difficult to listen to.

Edit: I few of these are pretty decent, it just happened Toy, which is unlistenable, came first.

I'll probably give this overall somewhere in the 60 range. A handful of them are quite good, but most of them feel like imitations of other pop stars without their own personality, and a few are just bad.

If you're going to write a song called "That's How You Write A Song", you should make sure you are correct first.
