Love and Rockets - Sweet Lover Hangover: 7
A very basic song that just works. Nothing here is original and it is happy to repeat itself soon, but somehow it gets into a groove that just sounds cool.

King Crimson - Red: 8
It's been a while since I listened to this and it is time to revisit this album. It sends chills through the spine and isn't even the best song there.

343. Oneohtrix Point Never - Ezra: 7.5
344. Yo La Tengo – My Little Corner of the World: 9.25 (now #906 on my all-time list)
I was pretty certain this song was a cover but never looked it up until it hit this list... apparently none other than (ugh) Anita Bryant recorded the original back in 1960, reaching #10 in the Billboard charts that year. Marie Osmond is also among the handful of artists that covered it, on her second album (In My Little Corner of the World - 1974). YLT's version definitely has the mellow VU feel (though I hear more Moe than Nico)... this song makes me happy.

345. Whitney Houston – You’re Still My Man: 2
346. Elvis Presley – You’re the Devil in Disguise: 8 (#6125 all-time)
347. Roy Harper – Twelve Hours of Sunset: 6
348. Frankie Allen - Just a Country Boy: 4
349. Buddy & Ella Johnson - Bring It Home to Me: 7.25
350. Hank Williams - Mind Your Own Business: 6
351. Nirvana - Stay Away: 7
352. Love and Rockets – Sweet Lover Hangover: 6
353. King Crimson - Red: 7.5

1. King Crimson | Red | 10
2. Hank Williams | Mind Your Own Business | 8
3. T. Rex | Electric Slim and the Factory Hen | 7
4. Nirvana | Stay Away | 7
5. Love and Rockets | Sweet Lover Hangover | 6
6. Buddy & Ella Johnson | Bring It Home to Me | 6
7. Frankie Allen | Just a Country Boy | 4

The best way possible to end (for me) the Biggest fan game, with my third perfect score. Even if I haven't included it on my Top 250 (surely I will on the next update), "Red" is a longtime favourite of mine. And I can prove it. "Soldado de caballería," a song from the second EP of my band during the 1980s (released in 1983 when I was 18-years old) featured a guitar arrangement "inspired" by "Red" (well, in fact I directly stole it). On the intro, outro and chorus there is a descending line on the guitar combined with an ascending line of the keyboard exactly like the one on the intro and outro of "Red." But the most obvious stolen part is the guitar riff that has the same exact rhythm pattern as Fripp's (I'm talking about the B part of the Crimson song, the one beginning at 1:05). Nobody noticed it at the time because of the Ska-Punk backing, difficult to relate with King Crimson. But I should admit here the theft/homage.

And yes, I quit the game. I rated here every song of this game but tomorrow will be the last one. It has been a wonderful game. Every Monday I listened two times to every song on my way to work (one going to work and another one going back home) and posted the ratings and rankings on the evening. Lots of interesting discoveries, I endorse all the songs that obtained from me rankings of 10, 9 and 8.

Nooo, that was long time ago. I released two EPS with Sade in 1983, an album and an EP in 1990 with Rubber and some collaborations with Gent del Desert in 2009, 2011 and 2015. You can find material from the first and last band on Spotify. Now I only play in Tweeters (a covers band) just for fun...
Thank you very much, Romain!

You know it's not easy to research your band. Rubber band always brings back to another things... I'm guessing that was on purpose :-)

T. Rex – Electric Slim and the Factory Hen: 7
As most of the best of T. Rex this has a lot of schwung. He has more transcendent tracks, but it is flawlessly entertaining nonetheless.

Neil Sedaka – Oh! Carol: 5
This type of old-time sappiness is not my thing, but for it's kind this is bearable, kind of.

Not much of a Sedaka fan. There's a couple of hits that are pretty good, but not this drivel.

BTW, here's the Carol he sings to is Carole King. Here's her answer record.

Mathémathiques Modernes - Disco Rough 8 I can picture a video for the song with the band dressed identically, dancing rigidly against the backdrop of a Cubist painting. Je le kiffe !

U2 - The Refugee 7 Classic rock as new-wave

The Heavy - Short Change Hero 6 Slight yet atmospheric

Raul Seixas - Metamorfose Ambulante 6 Joe Cocker tones

The Beach Boys - I'll Be Home for Christmas 4 Too polished. Say what you like about the original but it was moving in its original context.

TV on the Radio – Golden Age 5 Tuneful but aimless

Haddaway - Fly Away 3 Baby, don't hurt my ears. No more

The Dukes of Stratosphear - My Love Explodes 6 Skilled Rutles-ish homage

The Replacements - Little Mascara 6 Heartland-alternative intersection

Oneohtrix Point Never - Ezra 7 Malfunctioning meets melodious

Yo La Tengo - My Little Corner of the World 6 Minor gem

Whitney Houston - You're Still My Man 2 Cruise ship dirge

Elvis Presley - (You're the) Devil in Disguise 5 Hollow Vegas staple

Roy Harper - Twelve Hours of Sunset 8 December's emotional peak

Frankie Allen - Just a Country Boy 5 Highlight: Marvelettes-ish intro

Buddy & Ella Johnson - Bring It Home to Me 5 Swinging, no standout

Hank Williams - Mind Your Own Business 7 Gives both barrels

Love and Rockets – Sweet Lover Hangover 8 Harking back to Safetycat's comments about the Dukes, this has more of a Madchester feel in my view, should have been a hit during Britpop.

King Crimson - Red 7 Monotonous but gripping

T. Rex – Electric Slim and the Factory Hen 6 Groovy but unmemorable
Rob wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2019 11:07 am As most of the best of T. Rex this has a lot of schwung.
Does 'schwung' mean the same as in German (i.e. momentum)? Or is it some hip, happening slang I've missed out on?

Neil Sedaka - Oh! Carol 4 Mystifyingly huge once

It's German for sure, but it is used around here too as something like a propelling motion. 'Momentum' comes close I guess. For some reason I thought it had passed into English language as well, but I base this on absolutely no real life experience.

I suppose I could've worked it out from the T-Rex context, a lot of their glam-era songs have that same get up-and-go. On the plus side, that's two Dutch words in the space of two weeks I've learnt, you should start charging for the privilege!

Sorry for the late reply, Rob. Well, the reason got nothing to do with the game, which I like a lot. It's only a thing about priorities. I got little spare time and most of my listening time happens while I drive on my way to work. The first months of 2020 I prefer to dedicate my listening time to elaborate my own Top 50 albums and Top 100 songs of the 2010s
(by the way 1: my very provisional Top 5 includes "Carrie & Lowell," "Blackstar," "Norman Fucking Rockwell!," "Modern Vampires of the City" and "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy")
(by the way 2: during my recent trip on New Year's Eve I've been listening on my headphones to "Norman Fucking Rockwell!", count me as an addict right now; since I was reading simultaneously Philip Roth's "American Pastoral" probably both works of art will end tied forever in my mind, just what happened to me when I was a teenager with U2's "War" and Herman Hesse's "Demian").
I also want to make some listening for Holden's artist polls, Unacclaimed and Moderately Acclaimed (though maybe on these games I will jump on Round 2). That's why I left Biggest Fan, only to gain some time for other AMF games. Anyway I just hope the second year of Biggest Fan achieves a similar level of success inside the forum than the first one.
