Albums and Songs of 1973 Poll

Post by Listyguy »

Lordy I have loved some ladies and I have loved Jim Beam
And they both tried to kill me in 1973
Welcome to the 70s! This month, we will be looking to find the best songs and albums from 1973. If you want to participate, please post a list of your favorite songs and/or albums from that year in this thread. Only the top 20 will be given points, but larger lists are always welcomed and encouraged. On the other end of the spectrum, you need to list at least 5 songs/albums in order for your list to count towards the tabulation.

The top 10 albums and songs from each year will automatically qualify for the final decade poll. Additionally, there will be 50 wild card spots available to the songs and albums that miss the top 10. Wild cards will be determined using the points received in the yearly polls, with the point totals normalized by the number of lists that are submitted in that year. Wild cards also allow songs and albums with unclear release years to receive votes in both years. Points are awarded using this system:

Code: Select all

Rank Points
1	50
2	45
3	40
4	36
5	32
6	28
7	25
8	22

13	12
14	11
15	10
16	9
17	8
18	7

The deadline to vote is midnight (UTC aka Forum Time) on June 1st.

Compilations are not allowed. If you're unsure about a release date, consult RateYourMusic.com and AcclaimedMusic.net.

I find it remarkable that it appears that no song from one of the top 19 albums for antonius appears in his top songs list.

My surmise is that antonius intentionally lowers the placement of songs from the top albums on his top songs list. Perhaps this surmise is not correct. But, I still find the lack of correlation to be remarkable.

As greater authorities on jazz than me will tell you, Watermelon Man is a re-recording of Hancock's first hit way back in 1962 and therefore isn't eligible. I'm just going to leave it here considering only the top 20 is counted towards the results.
