Personally I'm astounded by the turnout. Last year we had 13 nominations, this year 27, more than twice last year and a lot more enthusiasm. It shows how much this forum has been picking up steam and gaining new members over the last year.

I have been going through slowly. Already found some I have enjoyed (Anais Mitchell and La Femme) quite a bit.

I made a Spotify thing:

Great! I can not hear all by international restrictions, but I thank you for the ones that I can.

A few of the ones I've heard have risen among my favorites for the year. Jason Isbell, Juana Molina. I liked Segundo a few years ago, I hadn't even heard of Wed 21 but I think it's by far the best album of hers I've heard.

Plus I liked Isbell's work with the Drive By Truckers but I'd never heard any of his solo stuff that's this good.

My apologies to everyone who nominated albums I didn’t get a chance to listen to yet. But since my time is extremely limited right now, I wanted to submit a list of the albums I do know. Since I have so much respect for the musical tastes of everyone who participate in this forum, I’ve kept a list of the nominees and will be sure to listen to the rest of them when I do have the chance.

1. La Femme - Psycho Tropical Berlin
2. New Order - Lost Sirens
3. Poliça – Shulamith
4. Lady Lamb The Beekeper - Ripely Pine
5. Jason Isbell – Southeastern
6. Dean Blunt - The Redeemer
7. Veronica Falls - Waiting for Something to Happen
8. Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer - Child Ballads
9. Youth Lagoon - Wondrous Bughouse
10. Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience
11. Richard Thompson – Electric
12. El-P and Killer Mike - Run the Jewels
13. Jenny Hval - Innocence is Kinky
14. DJ Koze – Amygdala
15. Unknown Mortal Orchestra – II
16. Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic

4) Lady Lamb the Beekeeper - Ripely Pine
5) Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience

8) Richard Thompson - Electric
9) Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer - Child Ballads
10) Jenny Hval - Innocence is Kinky

23) Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic
24) Mountains - Centralia
25) Dean Blunt - The Redeemer

Jason Isbell, Jenny Hval and San Fermin all have better songs than the 3 albums I ranked above them, but they also have some parts I didn't like at all... though for Jenny Hval it often seems that it's on purpose.
Overall : 18 albums I like, 2 I don't mind and 6 I disliked.

I thought I would do better, but I too am running out of year before I run out of music (a happy predicament.) I really enjoyed the little bit of The Maze that I could hear; if it was representative of the whole album, I would place it top three.

1. San Fermin - San Fermin
2. Poliça - Shulamith
3. AlunaGeorge - Body Music
4. Youth Lagoon - Wondrous Bughouse
5. La Femme - Psycho Tropical Berlin
6. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II
7. Jason Isbell - Southeastern
8. Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic
9. Lady Lamb The Beekeper - Ripely Pine
10. Veronica Falls - Waiting for Something to Happen
11. Jenny Hval - Innocence is Kinky

Although The Child Of Lov was born in Belgium as Martijn Teerlinck, during the making of his debut album he was operating from neighbor country Holland. But all of this doesn't matter anymore because on december the 10th came the sad news that Martijn has died at the age of 26. According to his manager he passed following complications during a surgery for a disease he was suffering from all his live. His bad health was also the reason he canceled all promotional tours last summer.

R.I.P. Child Of Lov.

Been a really busy period with several guest staying over recently. I've listened to most of them but I would really be grateful if you could give me a couple more days Jirin. Alternatively, I could post a rated list of the ones that I have already listened to instead, if preferred.

I don't mind you taking another couple days so long as it's a definite period and not 'Wait for me to finish my listening no matter how long'. How about we extend the deadline to the weekend?

Since it looks like all the online Schulze calculators treat abstentions as last place votes I'm going to need to write a program to do this anyway.

Since it looks like all the online Schulze calculators treat abstentions as last place votes I'm going to need to write a program to do this anyway.
I might try to add a couple albums that I didn't get to hear on to my list in that case

As a teaser for the soon-to-be-revealed MA5 bracket, the winner here will face Honorio's #3 pick - Goran Bregovic - Music Inspired And Taken From Underground - in the first round of the draw!

I'm mostly done with the calculations, just there's more work than I expected because of such a higher turnout than last year. ;)

I know who the winner is because the algorithm is such that if one album wins a head to head vote against all other albums it is certain to be the winner, and one album I've already calculated has done that, but still need to process the rest of the list.

And here we go.

Chateau Marmont was only on six lists which did hurt it due to the way win cycles are resolved in this formula, but if it got more votes of relatively the same distribution it would have only been five or six places higher.

27 Tyler, The Creator - Wolf
26 Christopher Owens - Lysandre
25 Chateau Marmont - The Maze
T-23 New Order - Sirens
T-23 Mountains - Centralia
T-21 Dean Blunt - The Redeemer
T-21 DJ Koze - Amygdala
T-19 Polica - Shulasmith
T-19 Justin Timberlake - The 50/50 Experience
T-17 Paul McCartney - New
T-17 Alunageorge - Body Music
16 Unknown Metal Orchestra - II
15 Wooden Wand - Blood Oaths Of The New Blues
14 El-P and Killer Mike - Run The Jewels
T-12 Juana Molina - Wed 21
T-12 Richard Thompson - Electric

The top 10/11 come later.

There certainly wasn't an "awful" album on this list. Even my two lowest choices would be "challenging" and "less interesting" at worst. Another good and simple game for finding new stuff.

Edit - "Simple" to play that is. As always, thanks to you jirin for pulling it all together.

I very much enjoyed Veronica Falls. I didn't vote at all for the albums I didn't care for.

Henry, the algorithm I used is designed so non-votes are neither a vote for nor against an album, because calculation is based on the head to head votes between each pair of albums among voters who ranked both albums. That's why I assumed your lowest ranked album was your least favorite that you had heard.

The Maze was the only album that was hurt by low vote total. It's win-loss record was actually 9-14-3, which would have put it around #17 or so. But A > B > C > A cycles are resolved in this system by looking at strong wins against higher ranked albums, so having only six ballots out of nineteen meant it didn't have strong wins.
