It's great to see these results! I'm shocked that "The Dark Side of the Moon" is so low!
Re: 2014 Album Cover Poll - Results
^Seconded.
But I probably should have participated in the list making.

The list looks great so far. I also wish I would've participated in the poll, but my computer always had trouble loading the thread. Many of the covers I've seen so far likely would have made it into my list, with Dark Side of the Moon coming in pretty high (maybe #1). Sorry Nick... I should've participated...

It's nice to see that *In the Court of the Crimson King* did so well, that probably would have been my number 1 had I submitted a list

Vampire Weekend's Contra is such a mystifying cover to me. It's like a cheap 80s Polaroid equivalent of the Mona Lisa. What does that expression mean? There's so much to be read into that look.

Thanks for the work acroamor! Pretty funny that those three Beatles albums are often in the top 10 very much like that, though usually it's just standard greatest albums lists.
I feel like that

Re: 2014 Album Cover Poll - Results
Well it appears I made a mistake in the tabulations - there was one album that I accidentally did not list due to a formatting error on my part. That album was:
80. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band - 127 points - 2 votes
And the final list will be updated to show that.
And here's an artist-by-artist breakdown of the top 20 artists in this poll including only those artists who placed more than one album in the top 503 (sorry Joe Strummer, you can't win everything).
1. The Beatles: 1871
2. Pink Floyd: 936
3. Radiohead: 791
4. Miles Davis: 699
5. Joy Divison: 617
6. Joni Mitchell: 614
7. Bob Dylan: 589
8. Bjork: 578
9. The Who: 544
10. David Bowie: 472
11. The Rolling Stones: 440
12. The Velvet Underground: 434
13. The Beach Boys: 433
14. Bruce Springsteen: 426
15. Patti Smith: 411
16. Kanye West: 406
17. Beck: 341
18. Pixies: 310
19. Vampire Weekend: 308
20. Tom Waits: 295
Interesting to see how the artists rank up here. The Beatles obviously ran away with the poll (as they should) but I was glad to see Pink Floyd also ranked highly. There are a few cases here of artists with a lot of albums in the 100-200 range getting a huge boost, because they produced a number of albums that a few people liked intensely but none with mass appeal. Examples include Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Kanye West, and the beautiful and talented Patti Smith.
All artists with two or more albums:
Andy Stott: 216
Animal Collective: 115
Aphex Twin: 218
Arcade Fire: 227
Beastie Boys: 175
Beck: 341
Belle and Sebastian: 124

Carly Simon: 105
Daft Punk: 130
David Bowie: 472
Death Grips: 141
Editors: 79
Elvis Costello: 175
Elvis Presley: 110
Funkadelic: 192
Goldfrapp: 77
Gomez: 143 (all from Michel's list, incidentally)
Gorillaz: 206
Green Day: 136
Herbie Hancock: 116
Jimi Hendrix: 170
John Coltrane: 77
Joni Mitchell: 614
Joy Divison: 617
Kanye West: 406
Kate Bush: 233
Kraftwerk: 153

Pink Floyd: 936
Pixies: 310
PJ Harvey: 125
Primal Scream: 242
Public Enemy: 170
Public Image Ltd.: 131
Pulp: 204
R.E.M.: 229
Radiohead: 791
Rage Against the Machine: 87
Red Hot Chili Peppers: 155
Ry Cooder: 87
Sigur Ros: 250
Sonic Youth: 116
Talk Talk: 95
Talking Heads: 239
The Band: 248
The Beach Boys: 433
The Beatles: 1871
The Cure: 126
The Doors: 83
The Flaming Lips: 178
The Rolling Stones: 440
The Smashing Pumpkins: 115
The Velvet Underground: 434
The White Stripes: 187

Re: 2014 Album Cover Poll - Results
What about this cover?acroamor wrote:Well it appears I made a mistake in the tabulations - there was one album that I accidentally did not list due to a formatting error on my part. That album was:
80. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band - 127 points - 2 votes
I actually placed these the opposite way on my list first too. As I understand it, John Lennon's album is John lying on Yoko, and in Yoko's album it's Yoko lying on John. So what I'm saying is that the points are correctly now, but that's the wrong cover. I might be wrong though, very confusing.
I feel like that

London Calling at one? Hard to argue with. Like I mentioned in the voting thread it almost symbolizes the rock or at the very least punk movement in one snap shot.
The final list is great, though i would probably settle with many of The Beatles covers lower (I never "got" the Revolver cover for example). Perhaps even more covers from lesser acclaimed albums, but there is enough from those too lower in the list.
