Pink Floyd- Maybe it's because he left and had a few bad words to say about us, but Dylan isn't the king in Minnesota. Prince is the hometown hero, for musicheads it's probably The Replacements and I think a lot of people would consider Soul Asylum (of all bands) above Dylan at least when recognizing local music. It's very strange, but probably mostly due to growing up in outstate Minnesota and leaving Minneapolis before he made it big. You just don't hear about Dylan much. When he does come to town nobody really treats it as a homecoming. When Prince makes an appearance at a show, it's in the entertainment section of the local newspaper the next day. Once you leave us, we're against you I guess! OK, after all that on Dylan, I go Pink Floyd. :D

Radiohead- This has to be U2's knockout... Please be U2's knockout.

Marvin Gaye- I'm lukewarm on both, but I feel I haven't been voting for classic R+B enough so I'll give my vote to Marvin.

Stevie Wonder- Three years ago I would have said, I wasn't a big fan of either but now Stevie is one of my favorites and I like a lot of Springsteen stuff. So when I write a lot of negative stuff in my comments, know that I'm open minded enough to give it another chance.

R.E.M.- I don't know what it is about Hello Nasty... maybe the interludes but it's the only album I enjoy by the Beastie Boys.

Nirvana- I was listening to International Submarine Band yesterday and I said to myself, I love Johnny Cash songs when other people are singing them. I still like Cash a little bit, but it's his slow, methodical pace that keeps me from being a fan. I'm pickier about country than I am with jazz. It's got to be bright and poppy but it better not be pop.

Prince- Very tough choice as I've really dug into Costello's catalog this past year. I always passed it off because I didn't take the time to listen to the whole albums. I never liked Imperial Bedroom until a couple months ago. But, there are a lot of artists similar to Costello, a lot of people have tried to do Prince but don't come close. He's a genre by himself. Although, a lot of times Prince tries to do Prince and doesn't come close either, but when you create something so fresh like he did, it's tough to match it consistently.

The Cure- Can't stand the Police so The Cure gets my vote based off a handful of good songs. You know what I said about being open minded about giving artists another shot? Yeah, the Police don't get that respect.

Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan's my #1 all time and I find Floyd's more thematic music that they're most famous for cheesy. I like some of their straight up rock songs.

Radiohead

Although U2 has grown on me a lot since a few years ago.

The Who
Stevie Wonder

Why do these two have to be against each other so early? I went to a Springsteen concert last month. The show was awesome but I had a semi confrontation with somebody. Basically I was in the GA standup section, and the tall guy in front of me was moving his head back and forth. So I had to move my head back and forth to see the stage. The woman standing behind me found this objectionable and she stuck her boyfriend on me. He struck me as like a character on Jersey Shore, and the kicker is she obviously did it because she was not having a good time at the concert, and made him leave about half an hour in. Anyway, I don't blame Springsteen for having douchey fans, but it doesn't help.

R.E.M.

I'm surprised the Beasties made it this far. I like Paul's Boutique and their later stuff but can't forgive them for their earlier 'Take turns screaming in a shrill whiny voice' stuff.

Nirvana
Elvis Costello

Hardest vote of the week. Both are in my top twenty or so.

The Cure

Springsteen is the champion of the working man, but unfortunately a lot of working men can be pretty douchey. :D

1) Bob Dylan- Apologies to Barrett fans but I don't like them with few exceptions until Syd exits. Dylan meanwhile seems to have a couple songs I like on every album I've heard from him, even the "bad" albums. Going with Zimmy...
2) U2- Radiohead tends to forget about melody. U2 takes it...
3) Marvin Gaye- I think The Who is heavily overrated. Marvin tends to be UNDERrated because he's viewed as a "singles artist".
4) Stevie Wonder- While his 70s hot streak earns him the win, I'm listening lately to his 80s/00s output and still hearing stuff I like.
5) R.E.M.-So far for me, The Beasties are two great albums and a handful of good singles outside of that. Win R.E.M.
6) Johnny Cash- If there was a country Mount Rushmore, Johnny would be on it. Cobain's crew can't touch him...
7) Prince-I love both so this was decided by latter day output. Haven't really loved anything from Costello since the 80s.
8) The Cure- The Cure gets over based on more albums I like from them and will probably only grow the advantage since they still record..

Moreso than last year the email voters seem to hate anything that's the slightest bit alternative, idiosyncratic, or anything but a straightforward singable major chord ridden guitar pop song.
