Demon Days
I knew it'd be close, but I'm going with my #49 all time here.
I did not get a chance to hear the rest.

Speaking of Grooveshark, apparently it's becoming a paid service. I only use it for games like this, but a strange move for a website that couldn't even hope to compete with Spotify.

Close calls this week, and I surprised myself with a couple of them. Also I have some regret about not voting for "Comfort Eagle" as that is a good find and worth a place in round 2.

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 6 - Round 1.3
1. Gorillaz - Demon Days vs. The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Two bands that are clearly very popular on forum members here and whose work frequently appears in the games. It's almost a surprise that these qualify as moderately acclaimed, although at least The National has more popular work. These two albums are of pretty much equal quality to me. Gorillaz score because of the big variety and the light sense of fun, whereas The National as usual deliver something of a slow burner, an album that might work on first listen, but reveals its depth after some time. I vote for them, because in the end their songs seem to resonate more deeply with me. Gorillaz seem to be winning this with ease however, and I can't blame them.
2. Chance The Rapper - Acid Rap vs. The Adverts - Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts
Again a rapper loses with me and again I have to acknowledge that he does interesting things. Chance has a wacky feel for music and delivery and he clearly follows his own path. However, that same wackiness that separates him from his fellow artists gets a little much in the long run. The Adverts however come with an album that actually delivers for its complete running time. It's not as unique as some of the best albums in this game, but at least it is a great listen the whole way through.
3. Deep Purple - Burn vs. Paul Simon - Surprise
A nice contrast. Two old acts, one of hard rock, one of a more quiet, introspective sound. And both albums are more outliers in their work. In the case of Paul Simon I can see why. A lot of the songs there are great, especially the opening and he has actually on his old age taken an approach that feels fresh. His lyrics also never falter. He just has such a great discography, that Surprise gets overshadowed by some of them, including follow-up So Beautiful of So What.
Burn may also not have the stature of Machine Head or In Rock, but is barely a lesser album. There where some significant changes in the line-up, but the sound of lead guitarist Blackmore is still the same and he is on great form here. As are the other band members. This is just a very great adrenaline rush and I actually believe Burn has its place among the greatest Deep Purple albums.
4. Ólafur Arnalds - Living Room Songs vs. Cake - Comfort Eagle
Okay, this is just silly. I like Comfort Eagle quite a bit, but it's hardly serious competition for Living Room Songs. Every week so far has given me a great new find and this time it's easily the album by Ólafur Arnalds. That piano kills me. As easy a choice as can be. No offence to Cake however.
I should ask this question though, isn't Living Room Songs are form of classical music. I'm not an expert enough to judge that, though it sure sounds like it. If so, is it really eligible for this game? Classical music isn't present in the original list, so the acclaim criteria of this game can't be taken in account then.

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 6 - Round 1.3
The success of Ólafur Arnalds is the most pleasant surprise for me. This album was one of the most beautiful Birthday present my wife offer to me
I put Fyrsta : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDezzDQVy6M in the 53th position in The AM Top songs of 2010/2014.
If you like this album, you'll like his other music (album and OST) with no problems.

Almost forgot to vote.
Don't have my notes with me right now so I'll wing it from memory.
The National
Deep Purple
Olafur Arnalds
Could not find Acid Rap.
I have a sentimental attachment to Comfort Eagle because I absolutely love Cake's lyrics and listened to it a lot in college, but it's hard to vote for a mostly talk-singing album over something melodic.

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 6 - Round 1.3
1. Gorillaz - Demon Days vs. The National - Trouble Will Find Me
I don't really think of either of these albums as moderately acclaimed; aren't they both commonly seen as masterpieces of the last 10 years? I love them both, but the National feels a bit more consistent. Dennis Hopper ruins Demon Days for me.
2. Chance The Rapper - Acid Rap vs. The Adverts - Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts
I don't see Acid Rap as the incredible album that some do, but it's a solid, interesting debut. The Adverts don't really do a whole lot for me.
3. Deep Purple - Burn vs. Paul Simon - Surprise
I've never listened to Burn before, but it's great and reminds me of the band's best work. Surprise makes me wonder why I'm not listening to Paul Simon's better albums instead.

Yes... Deep Purple was down 6-0 before mounting a comeback that pushed it over on the last vote. Also, The National was down big, then made a late surge before coming up two votes shy of a tie. Good stuff!Rob wrote:Three very close races and one utter annihilation. Nice contrast.
