Selling England by the Pound

Starfish (tough call, though)

SMiLE

We Shall Overcome

No time to comment for most of these. I'll just say Starfish was more my style of music. Stormcock was good, but didn't have any songs I'd sing under my breath at school.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
The Church - Starfish
The Beach Boys - The SMiLE Sessions

I know I sound like a broken record, but I still can't find Jacques Higelin. If he survives this round, I vow to just purchase the album. (The only reason I don't now is that Pete Seeger might be my favorite album of the entire tournament, so it doesn't seem fair to suddenly buy it when I would almost certainly be voting against it.) The first two matchups this week were incredibly close...

1. Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz vs. Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Two albums high on my all-time list, but still a clear winner.

2. Roy Harper - Stormcock vs. The Church - Starfish
Voting against my own nomination (again), but Stormcock is one of the great 'unheard' and unique classics.

3. The Beach Boys - The SMiLE Sessions vs. Joe Jackson - I'm The Man
I've voted for the SMiLE sessions in previous rounds, but I can still only hear the greatness of what might have been, so it looses out to a proper album that has grown on me recently.

4. Pete Seeger - We Shall Overcome: The Complete Carnegie Hall Concert vs. Jacques Higelin - Alertez les bébés

Here it is on Spotify:

But I guess it isn't available in your region. It's definitely worth a listen, regardless whether Pete Seeger is better (I prefer Seeger, but like Higelin a lot too).

1. Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz vs. Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Can someone PLEASE try to sell me Genesis ? I don't get it. Really don't. Sufjan's album doesn't reach the heights of Illinoise or Michigan - but Selling England by the Pound (is it weight or money ?) is beyond me. Try me please. I don't get it.

2. Roy Harper - Stormcock vs. The Church - Starfish
Superb album by Roy Harper - class vs above average pop-rock

3. The Beach Boys - The SMiLE Sessions vs. Joe Jackson - I'm The Man
Discovered the Sessions on this round, although I have been a fan of the Beach Boys for a while - excellent quality, very interesting listening experience to understand the creative process and the songs... just the songs. Joe Jackson has grown to me, but still remains a sub-par Elvis Costello.

4. Pete Seeger - We Shall Overcome: The Complete Carnegie Hall Concert vs. Jacques Higelin - Alertez les bébés
Not a big fan of either. But then, I don't like folk music. And I am French, so Higelin's got to win this one.

Thank you, Rob and Bang Jan for trying to help with the Jacques Higelin album. Unfortunately, both links are not available in my region. (I will probably just end up purchasing it, since it's taken on a legendary status in my mind based upon its inaccessibility!)

I bought it during the first round off amazon - used for a couple bucks. Definitely worth it.

My picks:
1. Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz vs. Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
2. Roy Harper - Stormcock vs. The Church - Starfish
3. The Beach Boys - The SMiLE Sessions vs. Joe Jackson - I'm The Man
4. Pete Seeger - We Shall Overcome: The Complete Carnegie Hall Concert vs. Jacques Higelin - Alertez les bébés

Some real close calls for me here. Probably the toughest series yet.

It says the video is not available. Might this album have some kind of alternate title? Spotify has several Higelin albums, just not this one.

I think I might have found the Higelin album... The track order is wrong though, I think. Let me know if this works.

https://www.song365.co/album/jacques-hi ... 13649.html

EDIT: The track order is correct. It would probably be unwise to download from this site (I can't get a good lead on whether or not it's trustworthy), but playing it directly from the site should be fine. You'll have to be alert, though, since you can;t play all the track in a row – you have to switch them manually.

Thanks, Sweepstakes Ron! I was (finally) able to listen to the Jacques Higelin album on the link you provided and I enjoyed it very much. It's certainly more varied than Seeger's album, featuring virtually every style from Rockabilly to Funk. However, though it may very well be my second favorite album of the week, my vote does go to Pete Seeger, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite folk albums ever.

1. The Beach Boys - The SMiLE Sessions 10
2. Pete Seeger - We Shall Overcome: The Complete Carnegie Hall Concert 9
3. Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz 9

4. Genesis - Selling England by the Pound 9
5. Jacques Higelin - Alertez les bébés 8
6. Joe Jackson - I'm The Man 6
7. Roy Harper - Stormcock 6
8. The Church - Starfish 4

Starfish is the last remaining album I really, really don't care for and it looks like it won't be here much longer. The match-up of Sufjan Stevens and Genesis is very painful; I've actually switched their ranks while typing this message.

1. Sufjan Stevens
2. Roy Harper
3. Joe Jackson
4. Pete Seeger

I love "Good Vibrations" as much as the next guy, but otherwise, I find most of the SMiLE stuff to be trite and annoying.

I'm most giving victory to Seeger because he has much nostalgic value for me. I frequently listened to Children's Concert at Town Hall in my youth, you see. Also, "What Did You Learn in School Today?" is darkly hilarious.
