Best of the B-Sides: Nominations

Post by BleuPanda »

I want to do a song tournament on the opposite end of the spectrum from unacclaimed. Instead of celebrating the overlooked, this tournament will examine the less-discussed moments from the biggest albums.

The nominations will be a bit odd. Instead of having open nominations, it will be limited to one song each from the top 128 albums. (Though please tell me if you notice that one of the 128 albums in ineligible due to the rules below).

Rules:
1. You may vote once every 24 hours
2. Choose an unclaimed album and pick your favorite track off of it that
a) wasn't released as a single
b) isn't featured on acclaimed music
3. If you seriously disagree with someone's choice, you may instead nominate another song of an already chosen album, but one other user will also have to vote to make that change. When this happens, the chosen song ends up being whichever track receives the most votes first. (This rule exists hopefully to discourage sabotaging)
4. The voting process will end 24 hours after the last album is claimed.

I will try to update the results as the topic goes on. When the tourney actually begins, it will either use a 1 v. 1 format or the unacclaimed 4-way set-up.

I'm not in a rush, but I figure that if it takes too long to make all the selections then people could lose interest.

Love that song :music-rockon:
My favorite record store was playing the album one day, and when this song's closing guitar jam kicked off I was seriously tempted to start air-guitaring in the hope-against-hope that someone else would spontaneously join in to mime the other part. But I didn't have the guts.

Some of these albums just have too many songs for me to choose from. Illinois and Automatic for the People especially stick out.

I wonder which poor album will be the last one claimed.

I just wanted to be one of those ghosts
You thought that you could forget
And then I haunt you via the rear view mirror
On a long drive from the back seat...

The way I'm approaching this is to just start at the top and take the highest ranked album that has an unacclaimed song I give a 10. In this case:

"Climbing Up the Walls" from Radiohead (OK Computer)

Just checked my Top 250 songs of all-time to see which ones can be included in this game, just to see that "Spanish Bombs" (my #19 of all-time) and "This Is the One" (my #57) were already nominated. So it has to be:

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew: Sanctuary (my #247)
