This week had the first truly difficult challenges of the week. Portishead v. Clash was hard, but Buckley v. White was just fiendish. Both songs were among my favorites from the whole competition and ones I would love to see take home the final win.

Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over
Stevie Wonder - Visions
Radiohead - Climbing Up the Walls
Love - A House is Not a Motel
LCD Soundsystem - New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
Radiohead - Videotape
The Clash - Spanish Bombs
The Beatles - You Never Give Me Your Money

Lover, You Should've Come Over
Europe Endless
Climbing Up the Walls
A House is Not a Motel
New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
The Great Curve
Spanish Bombs
You Never Give me your Money

"The Great Curve" forced me to pick AGAINST Radiohead but only because it was that good.

That is, exactly the same selections as bonnielaurel! :greetings-waveyellow:

Stevie rules. He is so underrated on the song side. Especially "Songs in the Key of Life" should have half a dozen more songs on AM.

I think when I first found this site, Songs in the Key of Life had nothing actually in the top 3000; that was especially jarring since, even in my musical ignorance back then, I recognized quite a few of the songs. Luckily that's changed, but even then, As feels jarringly low.

I've been extrapolating the data so far; I should have a ranking of the top 64 songs at the end of this based on our votes throughout. Unfortunately the 4-way matches of the early round make anything eliminated in round 1 hard to estimate, so they'll be excluded.

I'm doing this because I don't like how contests put all the focus on those that move further. A song that put up 45% against the winner in round 2 deserves just as much attention (if not more) than the song that met it in the finals and did 40%.

Favorite song I couldn't vote for: Stevie Wonder - Pastime Paradise (Easily: it's tied with Stevie's other song, "Visions," as my second favorite song remaining.)

The White Stripes - Ball and Biscuit
Stevie Wonder - Visions
Radiohead - Climbing Up the Walls
Love - A House is Not a Motel
Joy Division - Day of the Lords
Talking Heads - The Great Curve
The Clash - Spanish Bombs
The Beatles - You Never Give Me Your Money

Can't help contrasting these 16 songs with the majority of songs from the 5873/6000 game. Only a few songs (eg 25 or 6 to 4) would avoid being out of place in this company.

Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over (meh matchup)
Kraftwerk - Europe Endless
Radiohead - Climbing Up the Walls (closest matchup of the round, but a lot of recent listening to Radiohead has made this a personal favorite)
Love - A House is Not a Motel (for the third straight round vote against Soul Love for a personal favorite, and I'll probably lose for a third straight time)
LCD Soundsystem - New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
Talking Heads - The Great Curve (my favorite song of the tournament)
The Clash - Spanish Bombs
The Beatles - You Never Give Me Your Money (it's hard to vote against a song from Fun House, but this is one the only Beatles songs that can be legitimately described as underrated)

Ball and Biscuit
Visions
Climbing Up the Walls
A House It Not a Motel
New York I Love You
The Great Curve
Spanish Bombs
Down on the Street

Does anyone know who nominated each of the tracks remaining? I can't remember, for example, if I nominated "Ball and Biscuit" or if someone else did. I would go back and find the thread now but I'm short on time. If no one else has done this by tomorrow, I will compile a list of who nominated each song remaining.

Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over
Sorry, nothing against the White Stripes, just a big Grace fan.

Kraftwerk - Europe Endless
I JUST played this song today before seeing the thread, because it is such a feel-good song. Probably the best positivity anthem in the entire electronica genre.

Radiohead - Climbing Up the Walls
This was tough; while I think Pastime Paradise is a pretty cool song, nothing matches the creepiness of CUTW.

David Bowie - Soul Love
Even though I think the rhythm is borrowed from Santana's "Samba Pa Ti," this is still a nice piece of pop-rock.

LCD Soundsystem - New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down
This was another tough one.

Talking Heads - The Great Curve
I never thought I would put a Talking Heads song over a Radiohead song, but here you go.

Portishead - Mysterons
Probably the toughest matchup here. Interesting note while I was listening: I think "Spanish Bombs" was the blueprint for Green Day (my fave band). A bit related, some say Radiohead's "High and Dry" was the blueprint for Coldplay.

The Beatles - You Never Give Me Your Money
I very recently started getting into the Stooges, so I am not quite ready to put any of their songs over a Beatles song.

Last 12 hours to vote. Currently no ties, but a few matches are close enough that there could be...

26 voters, and there's at least one regular voter who still needs to vote. These are some good numbers! I believe the only week with more was Week 1 (with 28).
