I will try to listen to more albums, but I've already heard these two so I'll put my vote in.
1. Adele - 21 vs. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
An album featuring four songs that I would want if I was a singer OR an album that is quite bad made by a band that people obsess over? Hmm... 21 is a weak album, but Hail to the Thief is pretty damn bad.

EDIT: I also just wanted to say that Hail to the Thief doesn't even feature any good songs except for "There, There" and both "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You" are stronger compositions.

1. Adele - 21 vs. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Hail to the Thief is the worst Radiohead album for me (excluding their pre-OK Computer guitar-rock stuff) so I am far more likely to listen to 21, even though I am not a big Adele fan.

2. Harry Belafonte - Calypso vs. Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
The best of Belafonte beats a merely good Tom Waits record.

I have not had time for the others, although 10 Ragas to a Disco Beat sounds promising.

Thanks for the link Bang Jan. Probably not in with a chance, but I'm really enjoying the fun earworms from The Like.

2. Harry Belafonte - Calypso vs. Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years

Album with themes of animal rights and feminism. Very progressive for the 50s.

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

While I recognize her pop appeal, Adele's voice has a bit of nails on chalkboard effect for me.

Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years

Calypso was one of my mother's favourite albums when I was very young. I looked forward to revisiting it after an absence of 40+ years against a lesser Tom Waits album. My overwhelming impression was how inauthentic it seems. Sorry mum.

Radiohead 87-65
Tom Waits 99-30
Cortex 82-77
Saint Etienne 81-74

FWY is in my top ten all time and I'm afraid I don't get Calypso at all. It's just so corny and gimmicky. It reminds me of that style of song in Inside Llewyn Davis 'Don't send me into outer space!'

The version in the link (not spotify) that Bang Jan provided above... the original from 1994.

Winners in red.

1. Adele - 21 vs. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

I think both of these albums are somewhat overrated, but I'll choose Adele's best over one of Radiohead's weakest.

2. Harry Belafonte - Calypso vs. Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
3. Cortex - Troupeau Bleu vs. Charanjit Singh - 10 Ragas to a Disco Beat

An album so ahead of its time that people thought it was a hoax when it got a rerelease a few years ago.

4. The Like - Release Me vs. Saint Etienne - Tiger Bay

Closest match this week - Release Me is a lot of fun, but Tiger Bay is more ambitious and stylistically diverse.

1. Adele - 21 vs. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

Personally, very surprised that this race is so close. I thought the Radiohead love here was too strong.

1. Adele - 21 vs. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Rated these two a good 4.0 stars upon previous listens. Adele doesn't cut it though. It has some really great songs, but too few. Hail to the Thief, in spite of being one of Radiohead's lesser albums, is still a great listening experience

2. Harry Belafonte - Calypsovs. Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
Two weak contenders for me, Tom Waits edges it for his raspy voice, although Harry's Day-O brought back some fond memories of Beetlejuice :)

3. Cortex - Troupeau Bleu vs. Charanjit Singh - 10 Ragas to a Disco Beat
Two new discoveries, and I quite like Cortex (although "Colchique dans les prés" ??? meh), but I am blown away by Charanjit Singh. It is indeed unbelievably ahead of its time, this could have been released a few years ago, easily. Best new discovery this week

4. The Like - Release Me vs. Saint Etienne - Tiger Bay
Two decent releases - and both deserving to move onto the next stage. The Like is a discovery and I knew Tiger Bay from its original release. However The Like is too stereotypical - so the award goes to St Etienne's indie pop.

Perhaps. I like Hail to the Thief, but it's still three Radiohead. I just found 21 to be a thoroughly mediocre album up against a barely passable one.

It all depends on who's in round two.

But Hail to the Thief is just mediocre. I feel most of the praise for this album is due to the fact that it's Radiohead. If this had been done by The Libertines or Blur or some other band, this would have probably not received as well.
