Films of the 1990s: 1997 (2016 edition)

Post by Petri »

The rules:

You can post a list of anywhere between 1 and 20 films (or more, but only 20 will be counted) from the period we're covering. The deciding factor in terms of release dates is the RYM list and the top 15 of each period will go on to the final top 150. The deadline is 15th of December. If you haven't voted for your favorite movies of 1996 there's is still two weeks left to do it.

The points scheme is as follows:
1. 50
2. 40
3. 35
4. 30
5. 25
6. 20
7. 18
8. 16
9. 14
10. 12
11. 10
12. 9
13. 8
14. 7
15. 6
16. 5
17. 4
18. 3
19. 2
20. 1

However, these are the maximum amounts of points. If you want to put certain films on your list but don't want to give them too many points, you can choose to give these less points than in this scheme (but never more) to decrease the impact on the overall results. If you don't specifically state that you want to give (some of) your films fewer points, I will assume the standard scheme.

Here are some lists to remind you of the films released in 1997:

IMDb
RYM
Films101
RottenTomatoes

If you vote for 4 movies or less, this is the adjusted scores:
4 votes
1. Movie 40 p
2. 35 p
3. 30 p
4. 25 p

3 votes
1. Movie 35 p
2. 30 p
3. 25 p

2 votes
1. Movie 30 p
2. 25 p

1 vote
1. Movie 25 p

Good call. I had this on my 1998 list (because it has been a 1998 on RYM). Perfect Blue is a 1997 movie and it's my #10 (I'll edit my list).

Yeah 53 points wouldn't have been enough for the final. I assume that I give Fifth Element 50 points and so on.

Again the competition of the last final place is very tight (and Starship Troopers could be one of the competitors). The biggest Verhoeven fan (DepecheMode) hasn't voted yet.

Tomorrow is the last day to vote!

I edited my list again. Career Girls is my new #10 and The Cube #17 (rewatched The Cube) Out: 19. Neitoperho [The Collector]
20. A Life Less Ordinary

* Last time Hana-bi missed the final erroneously probably because host of that poll didn't know that はなび [Fireworks] and Hana-bi are the same movie.
** In the 1998 poll (Perfect Blue was considered a 1998 movie then).

Princess Mononoke was leading the whole month (great start with 140 points after three votes) until Midaso's very last vote dropped it to the third place.
The Full Monty (#9 in last round) got only 15 points from two voters and missed top 50 (#57).
