Sorry, the wild card rules will patch over most of the calendar year funny business, but not for 1999, though. (I've noticed that "Big Pimpin" showed up in a lot of 2000 year-end lists at the time.)

I have a question regarding this provision:

3. Once voting is completed for the 10 year polls, The 50 albums and 50 songs that received the most points during voting while failing to automatically qualify for the final poll will also go forward to the final poll. When there is release date confusion, and AMFers vote for the same song/album in different year polls, these mis-matched votes will be accumulated towards these ‘wild-card’ positions, so (hopefully..) release date disagreements will be resolved without much fuss.

Wouldn't this be an unfair advantage for albums that fall in years that have more people voting? For example, if 2001 has 38 voters, and 2002 has 49 voters, any albums that finished out of the top ten in 2002 would have a decided advantage over the same placing albums in 2001. Would using an average be better? number of points/total voters. Just my suggestion.

For the 1960s poll we used both methods of calculation and it made little difference in the end. With both results presented, no-one argued that we ought to use the averaged results instead. The final analysis is here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3022&start=50#p46041

Some years had lower levels of participation because they were unpopular years. I think no one complained because they preferred to see more finalists selected from 'good' years and less from 'bad' years.

The 2000s is likely to have a much more even level of participation than the 1960s did, so I'm not seeing this as a problem.

Early prediction: Kid A's gonna take top album and "B.O.B." will be the top song (so we're going the Pitchfork route). I'm still hoping Stankonia pulls an upset.

Speaking of 2000 songs, StevieFan13 have you heard Stevie's keyboard solo on Don Henley's song Nobody Else in the World? He sounds like a man possessed.

I'll give it a listen. Not the hugest Henley fan, but I'll take a Stevie solo any day of the week.

I'm a bit disappointed that the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou? is nowhere to be found on those many lists yet. I didn't expect it to dominate this poll, but that it hasn't appeared anywhere yet is a huge surprise. Am I the only one who loves that soundtrack to death? I thought it was quite big in the day too. I'm not voting for albums, but at least two tracks from it (Man of Constant Sorrow and Down to the River to Pray) are shoe-ins for my song list.

Thanks.

I do recall seeing it on a list of "saddest films ever" once. Looks kinda bleak. Is Bjork a good actress?

I'll take that as a definite yes. Not one for sad films (last really bleak movie I saw was The Kite Runner, and I was drained afterwards), but this seems worth a look.

For me, one of the horribly sadedest scene I have ever seen is in this movie.

Everytime the box of tissue next to me is empty at the end of the movie. :(

Oh, boy. As one who's more for Mel Brooks and animated films, I might hold off on this one. But hey, movie-watching is as much of a pet project to me as listening to new music.

Thanks Romain. I greatly enjoyed "Dancer in the Dark", but it was certainly bleak. A good deal sadder than "The Kite Runner". Indeed, I think it was too much for many people.

I dunno. I'm a sap sometimes. I cried at Johnny Cash's "Hurt" (expect to see that one show up when we get to 2003).

Speaking of Johnny Cash..surprised he isn't getting more love. I personally think Solitary Man is the best album in his American series, and "I See a Darkness" is a very powerful song. Both will be prominently placed in my eventual lists.

Don't think it adds much to the original, though to be fair I kind of think the same (to a lesser extent) about Hurt so...
At least One and Personal Jesus are significantly different from the original versions.

That's ok, there won't be any for me until then either, and I actually became more of a fan starting in 2003, so they'll feature more highly even later on for me. My 2000s lists will also have plenty of nostalgic selections from when I was growing up.
