LGBT TOP Albums Songs Artists

Post by Nikitiyk »

Hello, is it possible to make the LGBT rating of Albums Singles Artists?
Artists LGBT People
Albums, Songs LGBT Theme

Proof of:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category: ... cal_groups
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category: ... ated_songs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:LGBT_musicians
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category: ... ated_music

etc...

And of course probably should designate an icon on an artist, album, song icon - Sex, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Subjects

After a certain point, it becomes kind of impossible to make everything THAT specific. Especially considering that there may be some artists who aren’t out of the closet.

We would be remiss, Nikitiyk, if we did not point out an excellent thread from Dan

Also, I recently saw this title at my local bookstore, although i haven't yet purchased it: "David Bowie Made Me Gay" by Darryl W. Bullock

Yeah, I would use that as my first reference. Just to be clear, I don’t think sorting by LGBT+ artists is a bad idea at all, but it’s hard to nail down anything on AM just by subject. (Not to mention songs/artists famous in LGBT+ culture who aren’t gay themselves or don’t specifically have songs about LGBT+ culture, like “I Will Survive,” “I’m Coming Out,” anything by the Smiths, etc.)

LGBT artists/albums/songs is something that interests me too, but I think it would be too difficult to make an ”accurate” categorisation of all material on the main AM site. Maybe the most acclaimed LGBT artists/albums/songs could be collected in a forum topic instead, that would be like a sister topic to Dan’s excellent thread. Perhaps it could be done similarly to the songs from movies topic.

I’ll see if I can do something like that for the top 500 songs.

In brackets, for bands, I’ve listed members who have acknowledged being LGBT+ at some point (I’m counting asexual as part of the +, so there’s Morrissey). I’m also counting Prince and the Revolution, given the presence of Wendy and Lisa, but not “When Doves Cry” as that was pretty much just Prince.
9. The Who [Pete Townshend] - My Generation
25. David Bowie - “Heroes”
29. Little Richard - Tutti Frutti
38. Queen [Freddie Mercury] - Bohemian Rhapsody
43. R.E.M. [Michael Stipe] - Losing My Religion
48. The Smiths [Morrissey] - There is a Light That Never Goes Out
51. Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side
57. David Bowie - Space Oddity
71. The Smiths [Morrissey] - How Soon is Now
74. Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit
78. The Velvet Underground [Lou Reed] - I’m Waiting for the Man
81. David Bowie - Life on Mars?
97. The Smiths [Morrissey] - This Charming Man
98. The Velvet Underground [Lou Reed] - Heroin
101. LCD Soundsystem [Gavin Ray Russom] - All My Friends
110. Sinéad O’Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
123. LCD Soundsystem [Gavin Ray Russom] - Losing My Edge
127. The Who [Pete Townshend] - Won’t Get Fooled Again
139. Prince and the Revolution [Wendy and Lisa] - Purple Rain
154. The Who [Pete Townshend] - Baba O’Riley
156. Soft Cell [Marc Almond] - Tainted Love
182. Prince and the Revolution [Wendy and Lisa] - Little Red Corvette
189. David Bowie - Changes
194. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
195. Frank Ocean - Pyramids
214. The Velvet Underground [Lou Reed] - Sweet Jane
229. Prince and the Revolution [Wendy and Lisa] - Kiss
231. Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man
240. Frankie Goes to Hollywood [Paul Rutherford and Holly Johnson] - Relax
262. The Breeders [Josephine Wiggs] - Cannonball
273. The Who [Pete Townshend] - I Can See for Miles
289. The Who [Pete Townshend] - I Can’t Explain
299. Grizzly Bear [Edward Droste] - Two Weeks
302. R.E.M. [Michael Stipe] - Radio Free Europe
313. David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes
342. R.E.M. [Michael Stipe] - It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
346. Courtney Barnett - Pedestrian at Best
358. David Bowie - Starman
362. The Knife [Karin Dreijer] - Heartbeats
375. Pet Shop Boys [Neil Tennant] - West End Girls
381. Queen [Freddie Mercury] and David Bowie - Under Pressure
389. Prince and the Revolution [Wendy and Lisa] - 1999
390. The Velvet Underground [Lou Reed] - Venus in Furs
393. Hercules and Love Affair feat. Anohni - Blind
395. Little Richard - Long Tall Sally
402. David Bowie - Young Americans
404. R.E.M. [Michael Stipe] - Everybody Hurts
408. Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee
413. Lou Reed - Perfect Day
417. David Bowie - Lazarus
442. Gossip [Beth Ditto] - Standing in the Way of Control
443. Elton John - Your Song
459. The Velvet Underground [Lou Reed] - Rock and Roll
481. Little Richard - Good Golly Miss Molly

Not even remotely comprehensive, so feel free to point out anyone I’ve missed. I also tried to avoid speculative LGBT+ people, but a few here (Townshend and Holiday particularly) are borderline.
