Favorite bridges! Who else loves a great bridge?
Favorite bridges! Who else loves a great bridge?
When I posted my 10 favorite songs that didn't make the top 3000, I noticed a common theme: almost all of them have at least a climactic finish or a great bridge. Some have both, with Grizzly Bear - While You Wait for the Others being the best example. It got me to thinking of what my favorite bridges are.
1. Audioslave - Like a Stone
And on I read, until the day was gone
And I sat in regret of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed, and all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death, I will wander on
2. Brand New - Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't
This is the grace only we can bestow
This is the price you pay for loss of control
This is the break in the bend
This is the closest of calls
This is the reason you're alone
This is the rise and the fall!
3. The Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'
4. Grizzly Bear - While You Wait for the Others
5. Florence + the Machine - Shake It Out
The only classic here is You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin', and even that massively underperformed in our poll. So I'm curious what your favorite bridges are, since most of you seem to have a different idea of what makes a great bridge than I do.

Because someone has to:
"Where's that confounded bridge?"
Also, kudos for mentioning "While You Wait for the Others," which is probably my favorite GB song.

Bridge Burning by Foo Fighters rather appropriately has a pretty weak bridge so that might be one of the best!
Re: Favorite bridges! Who else loves a great bridge?
Chris Bell - You and Your Sister
Rilo Kiley - Portions for Foxes

Re: Favorite bridges! Who else loves a great bridge?
Fiona Apple - Daredevil
Adele - Someone Like You
Also, the classic Weezer recipe of bridge into guitar solo into final chorus works amazingly in my book, particularly in stuff like Say It Ain't So or Buddy Holly or Endless Bummer.

Some good choices above. I love the Weezer formula too.
My choice for best bridge this year is King Princess - 1950.

Some great choices here! I voted for most of these in the all-time poll, and the bridges are a big reason why for a lot of them.Honorio wrote:I posted my favourite bridges 4 years ago (on the Rank the Tracks thread for "London Calling," see http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/forums/vi ... 172#p32725).

Just discovered We Appreciate Power this week. Its bridge gives 1950 a run for its money. Incredible.andyd1010 wrote:My choice for best bridge this year is King Princess - 1950.
