Here is my list for 2018 (albums only)
To make it a bit easier for calculating the points : I would allocate 60% of the total points available to the first category and 40% to the second one, then divide by the number in each category.

Well, I haven't been active on this forum in awhile but I'd be remiss if I didn't contribute to this year's EOY poll!

So I'll certainly echo the prevailing sentiment that 2018 was a great year for music. Hip hop, in particular, impressed me this year with a full 50% of my picks falling beneath that umbrella. Of course, this thread isn't the place for me to detail my adoration for each one of these records but I'd like to highlight some of my top choices.

Enough has already been said about Travis Scott's pop rap opus so I won't drop a block of text here simply to praise it. Suffice it to say, trap rap finally has its answer to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Among the more unpredictable selections in my list, however, is Post Malone's unexpectedly diverse beerbongs & bentleys. In spite of being a modest fan of his debut, I never imagined I'd fall head over heels for his sophomore effort, but this project is overflowing with memorable hooks and glossy beats. Ostensibly a party record with sleazy cuts like "Spoil My Night" and "rockstar", Post actually displays surprising depth on tracks like opener "Paranoid" and "Over Now". All the more impressive are the vocal performances throughout the album, with the anguished crooning on "Stay" helping to prove he's one of pop's most fascinating singers today. As a masterful meditation on hedonism and fame, Post also pays homage to Kanye's odyssey through stardom. Also, for any of you interested in dipping your feet in the misunderstood world of "emo-rap", Trippie Redd's latest mixtape A Love Letter to You 3 is a great entry point. Leaning heavily on cloud R&B aesthetic, Trippie alternates between bangers full of his unique brand of flexes and his trademark heartbroken laments. The future of the SoundCloud generation of rappers is hazy, but don't sleep on this eccentric 19 year old. I think he may be going places.

When push came to shove, the song was a bit too slow and quiet for me, I suppose. Maybe the chorus could have had a bit more oomph, too. good vocals and vibe, tho.

A lot of the fun (for me) with poll results is to see how the taste of the forum differs from the critics. Hence I felt the need to ask. Hope you don’t mind.

No problem, Henrik. These were the albums that I played and enjoyed the most throughout 2018, although while making this list I did notice it was similar to the spreadsheets, and that most of the albums were critical favorites. This was not intentional, and more a matter of personal taste. I also changed this list up a lot ever since i personally compiled it, which was a few weeks ago. That's because I was undecided about the list of my albums/songs for a while, although this is the final order. I understand your concern about this list, and honestly I don't blame you, because of how similar they are. However, i'm always open to input and thoughts on my musical opinions and tastes.

No problem, Henrik.
