Technically, I'm not sure he did - wasn't the album essentially a hodgepodge of polished-up outtakes? It came and went with very little fanfare last spring, but leave it to RS. (Leave it to RS also to give the #1 spot to what may - for reasons beyond the music - have been the most hated album of the year.)

Covers, outtakes and re-recorded songs anyway, but it was still counted as a studio album. It came out back in mid-January, which feels like forever ago now.

I feel a bit sorry for U2, not a fan of their music post-2000, but the way some people go on you'd think Ray Rice was fronting the band or something. They're just a once-great band who now aren't all that.

No really. Rolling Stone always seems to have at best begrudgingly accepted Pink Floyd. They weren't on their first top 100 artist list for example and probably added during the update because the endless complaints from readers.

This and the Telegraph lists are complete and total jokes in every way. I have always disliked Rolling Stone lately, but at this point they have officially reached rock bottom. I can't take them seriously as a music publication anymore. I read them for retrospectives on the artists and music they "get", aka 50s and 60s rock music, but that is as far as their importance to me goes.

I think putting "Turn Down for What" as the number 2 song of the year (technically NUMBER 1 as "Drunk In Love" is a 2013 release) is even more head scratching. It's a fun song, with an admittedly great music video, but I'm not sure how anyone can conclude it's the single best piece of music released in the past 12 months...

I hate to jump on the "hate on Rolling Stone" bandwagon, but putting "Turn Down For What" as the #2 song of the year is pretty pathetic. At best it's a rave song, and even then it's annoying because you know when the song comes on a bunch of shitty dancers just start going berserk.

I like "Good Kisser" too. I think that issue is that it wasn't much of a hit and that's probably why it hasn't been doing well so far.

I would also like to see "Move that Dope" on more lists, but I bet only US lists will have it.

I had that as my #1 on my fantasy radio station AS A JOKE!!! (For the record, A Little God in my Hands was my real pick.

I liked 2014, but Rolling Stone has terrible taste and is trying way too hard to be hip this year.
