AMF Song Survivor

Post by Holden »

I experimented with a weekly Survivor game before, but I thought of a new and possibly more fun way to do it. I figure that it is relatively boring to just take the top albums/songs, so I think it would be much more fun to use themes that maybe make us think more than we otherwise would on popular songs. This was partially inspired by participating in r/musicsurvivor, where they have interesting themes all the time.

So what themes do you think would make for a good Survivor Game? Preferably this would be able to fill out twenty songs for the poll function, and the songs could be based either on the AM list, or we could have a nomination thread.

If you don't like this idea, then let me know as well!

I was thinking that a really good theme to start out on would be opening tracks. We would do a nomination thread for that, and people could submit their favorite opening tracks to albums!

I think it'd be fun to do a poll like that, but to narrow it even more: Album One, Song One. The opening track from an artist's first studio album, only tracks like "Good Times Bad Times" by Led Zeppelin or "Is This It?" by the Strokes.

Alright I love it. What a great idea!

A few early years are missing, because they don't have any rankings.

I think I already said this before, but I think this works best by doing each decade as a standalone and then let the winners of each decade battle it out against each other (with of course the finale everybody dreams of: Yes We Have No Bananas versus Lovertits). I'd probably combine the 1890's and 1900's. It will be a lot longer than the previous version, so if that is a problem you could perhaps consider for example two songs out per round. On the other hand, most of these songs are less familiar then last Survivor so the slow pace could be good for discovering.

Whatever the case, this should massively increase the listening to Vess L. Ossman on this forum.

I have no idea how the 2017 entry should be handled, by the way.

Maybe a little silly, but with this amount of songs we could do 9 sets of 13 songs, we could do that in order and take the top two from each set, maybe with two wild cards?

I'm not sure if that is conceptually as strong as going by decade.
