90s Cover Versions

Post by TheLastEnemy »

Hi everyone

I'm standing in for a friend on his radio show, The Alternative Nineties Show, and this week (Thursday) I thought I'd do a special edition featuring 90s cover versions (cover versions that came out in the 90s, NOT cover versions of 90s songs that came out this century).

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of some really great ones I could play? I have a fair few ideas, but need a few more to fill the hour.

Thanks in advance!

Honorio covered (hah) most of the best ones. I'd add these three as well

Pearl Jam | Last Kiss
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole | Over the Rainbow
Cake | I Will Survive

Yo La Tengo - Little Honda (Beach Boys)
Elliott Smith - Thirteen (Big Star) recorded in the 90s bur released later
Uilab - St Elmo's Fire (Brian Eno)
Built to Spill - Cortez the Killer (Neil Young, live)

I guess anything from Metallica Garage Inc would work better on an alternative radio !

Nice choice, anything else from the same tribute album to The Jam (Fire & Skill) would suit too; I'll plump for Garbage - The Butterfly Collector

Also:
Everything but the Girl - The Only Living Boy in New York
Johnny Cash - Bird on a Wire
Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Didn't see it in Honorio's post)
Dawn Penn - You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)
All I got inside is vacancy!

You have well more than enough to fill the hour by this point, but I love My Bloody Valentine's covers of Wire's Map Ref. 41°N 93°W and Louis Armstrong's We Have All the Time in the World - both are relatively rare post-Loveless tracks.
