Biggest Fan: antonius (#341)

Huh? I thought songs picked for Biggest Fan last time were ineligible this time? This was a 6 then and it's a 6 now, still a merely good song off an otherwise imperious album:

Last time, starchman46 introduced us to the obscure N I G H T P O O L. His next selection isn’t much more well-known it seems. Just like last time, today’s artist belongs more to internet culture than to regular music channels (Tom Milsom is a YouTuber).

90. Tom Milsom – Having Fun
Year: 2013
Album: Organs
Biggest Fan: starchman46 (#116)

Don’t forget you can always vote at a later moment or change your rating.

Ah, you are correct. i have removed most, but apparently not all previous Biggest Fan songs from my work sheet and completely missed this song. Had forgotten that it was used for Biggest Fan before too. Sharp observation! Thanks!

I guess the thing to do here for consistency is to remove Ann Peebles' song from the 2022 line-up and make antonius eligible again for a new second pick.

I've taken myself the liberty to edit every post after the Ann Peebles one to normalize the order, now the numbers are:
86. Elisa & Ennio Morricone – Ancora qui
87. John Lennon – Steel and Glass
88. CHVRCHES, featuring Robert Smith – How Not to Drown
89. The Beach Boys – Our Prayer
90. Tom Milsom – Having Fun

The Beach Boys - Our Prayer: 5
I associate this mostly with the Smile Sessions album. There it is the opener and as such it works wonders. That version also has a bit of a more rich sound than the one on 20/20, even if otherwise it is mostly the same. The thing is that a song like this really needs a context. It's a great intro or interlude, but not much of a standalone piece. In that way it indeed sounds like a school choir practice, although the voices by the Beach Boys are very suited to this kind of thing.

Tom Milsom – Having Fun: 8
If Starchman keeps on offering highly original tracks like this to Biggest Fan, we have a lot to look forward too. This is certainly not as out there as N I G H T P O O L, but it is more captivating. A very creative way of turning indie pop on its head.

Ah, sorry. For some reason I have it in my head you stated otherwise in the past, but that's one me. Fixed it in the original post.

Zella Day - Hypnotic: 6
I know this singer for her guest appearance on Lana Del Rey's cover of Joni Mitchell's For Free last year. Hypnotic is a fine song, that I probably would give just one point more if it wasn't so derivative. Not much wrong with it otherwise though.

More than solid soul track. I have a bit of hard time getting into his early stuff, but age seemed to have treated him well.

All I can think of when I hear the "dum-dum, dum-dum, dum-dum, da-da-dum" riff in "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" is the beginning of the Sesame Street theme song (which, since you're Dutch, you probably also know is the beginning of the Sesamstraat theme song).

CupOfDreams gives us a song that ranks rather high on the main site, at #2404. We don’t get a lot of space rock on here, but does that mean we dislike it?

It's hard to hear in the Dutch version, because it is in another key, with another instrument and a slightly different tempo. It's more obvious in the English version. But how do you know what Dutch kids are watching?

I'm a nerd about Muppet/Sesame-related things. I mostly meant the original theme song performed by Frank Groothof, which is in the same key as the American theme.
