Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 13 - Round 1.9
Since we are in the mid-point of Round 1, I would like to point to the prediction leaderboard we have on the BracketMaker page. Right now the top 5 is:
1. Sweepstakes Ron: 27/32
2tie. Bang Jan: 24/32
2tie. DaveC: 24/32
4. whuntva: 20/32
5. Brad: 19/32
So the #1 is Sweepstakes Ron with an impressive percentage of 84% of success on his predictions. He's not participating on the game but surely he knows the taste of the forum. And the 75% of Bang Jan and DaveC is no less impressive...

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 13 - Round 1.9
It feels like we're going in circles somehow...weren't most of those already nominated in a MAA game ? Maybe somewhere else...
Out of the 8 here, I had already listened to six of them...
Match-ups:
1.Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory (2017) vs. Cesária Évora - Miss Perfumado (1992)
2.King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity (2016) vs. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - B.R.M.C. (2001)
Tough choice here - either of them could have been nominated by me...but weren't
3.Bee Gees - Main Course (1975) vs. Boris - Akuma no Uta (2003)
4.Lhasa - La llorona (1997) vs. Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels - Breakout...!!! (1966)

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 13 - Round 1.9
To my knowledge only "Miss Perfumado" previously appeared (but in MAA4, almost 10 years ago). But Bee Gees' "Main Course" appeared on "Biggest Fan, The Album Edition."spiritualized wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 8:20 pm It feels like we're going in circles somehow...weren't most of those already nominated in a MAA game ? The most run of the mill week ever? Which for this game means I pretty much enjoyed everything, without having discovered anything that I expect I will ever hold dear to my heart. Well except Nonagon Infinity, which stands quite tall above the other albums for me, but I already know that one very well. Main Course is perhaps a bit of a lesser album in here, but still not bad.

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 13 - Round 1.9
1. Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory
I know the forum really loves Miss Perfumado but even as I grow more found of African music as years pass, I still don't enjoy it much. In any case, Big Fish Theory is one of the most forward thinking rap albums of recent years, and I wished more rap artists would dare meddle with techno and house. Bringing SOPHIE for a rap album was a genius stroke though it needed an adventurous an open-minded MC to make his rapping work with it. And I'm not too sure what exactly Justin Vernon did in Crabs in a Bucket (the wind noise ? ) but that makes it the 2nd best song he has been a part of imo.
3. Boris - Akuma no Uta
Might have passed Pink as my favorite Boris album. Introduction is too long, but I wouldn't mind if Naki Kyoku lasted twice more.
