Pepe Deluxé – Contain Thyself: 7
A curious song that seems to belong to a few genres, but doesn't end up as something in particular. I'm listening to the album right now and every song is like that, for better or for worse. It's interesting, but it feels oddly personality free.

Ehm…

I don’t do this on purpose.

Random.org might do it on purpose, but he works in mysterious ways.

What I’m trying to say is that for the second time in a row Prosecutorgodot has a Schoolhouse Rock song here.

Add to that his Schoolhouse Rock album in Biggest Fan Albums and he really found a unique niche.

Yeah.

245. Schoolhouse Rock! - Fireworks
Year: 1975
Album: America Rock

From children’s music to a 15 minute piece of classical music. Schüttelbirne takes us on a fantastical journey. Why do all these super long songs come so close to each other?
Like all classical pieces I just pick the first version that Spotify drags up. If Schüttelbirne disagrees he can let me know.

246. Hector Berlioz - Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14, H. 48: I. Rêveries - Passions
Year: 1830
Symphonie: Symphonie fantastique

My favourite recording is with Leonard Bernstein and the NYP:

Schoolhouse Rock! - Fireworks: 4
Look, I'm not fond of listening to children songs as is and as someone with an interest in history this kind of idealized simplification of history is cringe-worthy, even if I know it is meant for kids. I was surprised to find that like the previous No More Kings this is basically focusses on exactly the same historic moment: the independence of the USA from the UK. Today's song is mostly about the declaration of independence whereas the previous was about the English king, but there is some overlap in storytelling. The plus here is that at least this one sounds musically smooth and doesn't have any of those forced sounding lyrics. However, this on also has kids declaring American values in non-musical fashion and it is annoying. Whatever, this series is clearly not meant for me.

Hector Berlioz - Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14, H. 48: I. Rêveries - Passions: 7
I remember the Bernstein version from Moderately Acclaimed. I feel like the one currently in the playlist is less overtly romantic, though I may be mistaken by memory. It's a lot to take in and I may need 10 more listens before I fully know what I think. Still there is a sense of wonder here that can't be missed.

And from classical music to sheer pop. Nobody can say we aren’t varied over here. As per usual with a kaue selection it is a big modern hit, with over 300 million streams on Spotify. Critics don’t care. In fact, David Guetta despite all his fame can not be find on Acclaimed Music yet. Who is rights: critics or the general populace? Decide for yourself.

247. David Guetta, featuring Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over
Year: 2009
Album: One Love
Biggest Fan: kaue (#392)

Sorry to be a pain, but I believe Kelly Rowland is spelled without an S? In any case, the song is a 6 - most of it doesn’t do much for me (although I do vaguely remember hearing it when it was popular), but Kelly has a lovely voice, which I might not have clocked before cuz I mostly just knew her as a member of Destiny’s Child.

Enough Schoolhouse Rock! as listening music for the rest of my life now...
246. Hector Berlioz - Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14, H. 48: I. Rêveries - Passions: 7.5
247. David Guetta, featuring Kelly Rowlands – When Love Takes Over: 3
Those last two are opposites in many ways. With the first I feel like I need to listen to it at least 5 more times to get the piece. With the latter I practically know I don't need to hear more than 10 seconds and a bit of the chorus.

Agree. Moreover I was amazed at the fact that Hector Berlioz was only 27-years old when he wrote that complex and poignant piece. David Guetta was 42 when he added some dance beats to the piano line of Coldplay's "Clocks." Of course Guetta earned with this much more money than Berlioz could dream of. Even on his happiest "rêverie."

Give me a chance to see your previous post! It's fixed now.

David Guetta, featuring Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over: 3
One of those "oh, it's that one" songs. I remember that this was on the radio a lot, but I never thought about it since. And why should I? It's a real bit of nothing. It manages to even take the power of Clocks' piano mute.

Mileswide is always a wild card when it comes to his picks here, but this time he pick an early song by an artist that is something of a forum favorite.

248. Jacques Brel – Le diable “Ça va”
Year: 1954

Sure, he did better later. He would make the drama tighter. These lyrics, while frequently great in rhyme, are also clearly something a young artist would write. But it works and it has more than a little power.

The last time we saw Arcade Fire here was with the song We Don’t Deserve Love, which might be considered an ironic title in light of recent news surrounding Win Butler. Today the band gets their second entry and we can check if the forum still loves the band. How about Listyguy himself?

Whatever the current case may be with Arcade Fire, by the time they were making The Suburbs they were firing on all cylinders, which makes even minor tracks like this worth a visit.

Remember how in the first edition of Biggest Fan Prince was easily the most dominating force? Of course, that was largely down to Moonbeam and the new selection method prevents such a dominion from happening again. So today we only have the second Prince song in the new Biggest Fan and once again it doesn’t come from Moonbeam’s list, but from stone37’s. Interestingly, it’s from the same album as the previous one, albeit from a different nominator’s list.
The song is bubblin’ under on AM, falsely as a 1992 song!

You wanna know the funniest part? This would’ve been eligible for the last Biggest Fan for being on MY list! It didn’t make the cut for me this time, but that doesn’t mean Money Don’t Matter 2 Night isn’t absolutely a 9 at least.
