The Who – Rael (1 and 2): 7
Very solid early attempt by the Who to do a more complexly structured song, as a sort of precursor to Tommy.

I'll be offline this weekend, so you get the next two songs at once.

Ineligible since the song version is unclear:
After Wagner, Geoffrey blesses us with his second classical pick, this one actually written for a piano instruction book. As per usual; the version in the playlist is sort of random, I don’t know which Geoffrey prefers.

280. Frédéric Chopin – Étude, No. 1
Year: 1839
Part of: Trois nouvelle études
Biggest Fan: Geoffrey (#347)

Don’t forget you can always vote at a later moment or change your rating.

With Panam recently abandoning his Latin music on Biggest Fan, it’s up to Toni to keep Brazilian music on our playlist; not for the first time. This is from a classic album and the song itself is bubblin’ under on AM.

280. Milton Nascimento & Lô Borges – Cravo e Canela
Year: 1972
Album: Clube de Esquina
Biggest Fan: Toni (#493)

Don’t forget you can always vote at a later moment or change your rating.

Is it for sure that this the right Étude No. 1? I'd give Op. 10 No. 1 around a 6 and Op. 25 No. 1 around an 8.

The second bubbler on Acclaimed Music in a row is also the second appearance of Interpol in the second version of Biggest Fan. It’s the fourth song from Styrofoamboots’ list though.

281. Interpol - Narc
Year: 2004
Album: Antics
Biggest Fan: Styrofoamboots (#208)

I somehow missed that Chopin actually has three Études. Geoffrey's list just said: Etude No. 1, so that isn't very helpful.
Geoffrey isn't very active on the forum and he doesn't play Biggest Fan, but if he could clarify it would be nice.

Went for this one, because it's his most famous No. 1 étude. Will change if Geoffrey says it's a different one. Yet another complication with classical music.

Milton Nascimento & Lô Borges – Cravo e Canela: 7
I remember not caring for this album when it appeared in Moderately Acclaimed a few years ago. Hearing this song, I can't completely understand anymore. This is very pleasant music. Time for a re-evaluation.

Interpol - Narc: 7
A good post-punk song that just misses that little extra to belong to the big ones.

As for the Étude song, it's an odd case. People are now actually voting for different versions and that doesn't work. I'm definitely not just going to assume it is the Op. 10 one, because even if that is the most famous, the other two versions aren't necessarily obscure or disliked. Besides, I'm not going to guess Geoffrey's tastes. Geoffrey is not a super active forum member, I believe, so I'll give him a week to respond. If he hasn't, I'll remove the Étude from the game and give him another song as his fourth entry.

Perhaps some of you may remember that the band Preoccupations was originally called Viet Cong, but due to criticism over the name as a form of appropriation or even as racist, which led to a cancellation of one of their concerts, they changed their name. Perhaps that is just as well, especially considering today’s song, which was still under the Viet Cong name and whose title refers to artillery munition. Which is not to say it is a bad song, as CupOfDreams attests to.

282. Viet Cong – Bunker Buster
Year: 2014
Album: Viet Cong
Biggest Fan: CupOfDreams (#208)

Viet Cong – Bunker Buster: 8
The song lives up to its title. There is something massive, foreboding and even explosive to it. Such a description make it sound more like heavy metal, but it does all this in a more post-punk format. Pretty cool.

Agreed! These last couple of songs are definitely better than the average and there are no real duds at all, which otherwise tend to be quite frequent. And now Reed even prolongs this run.

Berlin is one of my favorite albums and really a case were each song gets strength from its context. Nonetheless, maybe because I'm so familiar with the album this still works very well on its own. Then again, it is one of the songs from the album with a more noticeable hook.

As you may remember Stevejazz last song here was from the year 1895, so perhaps some of you might be glad that this time he has a far more recent song. It ranks on AM at #8671, though half of the lists that it appears on come from Stevejazz himself.

From one of my favorite film noirs, although not the Woody Herman version. It is a nice romantic ballad that is really old-fashioned in more than just genre, but sets a fine mood.

As popular as The Black Keys are, both critically and commercially, it still sometimes seems that only a few songs get all the attention, so it’s nice that andy1010 gives us one of their lesser-known songs (even if got decent streams on Spotify).
