We’re almost done with Flibie’s list, but not yet. For example, there is still this power ballad by Cheap Trick. Curiously, despite hardly being their signature song nowadays it is actually their only Billboard #1 song. It also ranks on AM, at #9436.

317. Cheap Trick – The Flame
Year: 1988
Album: Lap of Luxury
Biggest Fan: Flibie (#146)

Modest Mouse – The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box: 8
This a karaoke challenge! I kind of love fast tongue-twisting songs like this and Modest Mouse bring a very catchy one to the table.

Cheap Trick – The Flame: 3
What was their inspiration for this? Rod Stewart's late career? They make those Christian rock songs sound cool. No wonder that this isn't among their most signature songs. I'm not sure if I actually heard it before. I feel I should have, but it is really unmemorable.

In a complete 180 degrees turn from yesterday's song, DaveC takes us back to one of those unlikely songs that I love to have turn up at Biggest Fan. It is a Korean song, but no K-pop (at least not in the way we understand that genre now). Instead, it is Korean folk pop from the seventies.

318. 김정미 [Kim Jung Mi] – 햇님 [Haenim]
Year: 1973
Album: Now
Biggest Fan: DaveC (#922)

Thanks for introducing us to this song DaveC. Love the vintage vibe of it and nice to hear Korean music that isn't K-Pop for a change.

As per usual, Karla’s next pick is a hit song, so chances are you have heard this before. Unless your are American. I’ve noticed that Americans have a history of not paying attention when English boyband members go solo. Luckily it seems Harry Styles changed the trend, but for all the Americans joining us, this is Simon Webbe:

319. Simon Webbe – No Worries
Year: 2005
Album: Sanctuary
Biggest Fan: Karla (#96)

Did hear this song back in the day, but never knew this singer was part of any boy band. Also never heard of 'Blue' before. Always good to learn something.

I also remember it from back in the day, but it also feels like one of those hit songs that faded away from public consciousness the moment it left the chart. It's not a particularly gripping song, but I've heard far worse in its genre. The main hook, "I just know you're live's gonna change!" is quite captivating. It's basically the chorus and it seems weird that it's singer Yvonne John Lewis isn't mentioned as a featured artist.

Well, I’ve checked it and I have two 2/10’s and 11 3/10’s. But yes, I disliked the song. 1980s AOR ballads are definitely not my favourite style. Moreover when I read the back story at the Wikipedia entry (they disliked the song but the record company wanted a hit) I even liked it less.

As we move through SL3’s eclectic list we suddenly find an Australian song by a rather obscure band. However this song became a surprise hit, which is attributed to Rod Stewart’s guest vocals, despite him being uncredited at the time! The song also reached the critics, who collectively put it at #7815 on AM.

320. Python Lee Jackson – In a Broken Dream
Year: 1970
Album: In a Broken Dream
Biggest Fan: SL3 (#743)

Python Lee Jackson – In a Broken Dream: 8
Turns out I somewhat know this, though I didn't recognize the band or title. I failed to mention it earlier, but this is actually Rod Stewart's third appearance on Biggest Fan 2nd Edition, meaning he is now tied with Prince for most appearances. I didn't like his previous two songs, as they were very sappy. Because that's the type of Rod Stewart I hear most I sometimes forget how good he can actually can be. Especially in his early career there were plenty of songs that used his strong voice in incredible ways. This is a very good example of this. The fine flow of the words and the slight psychedelic vibe really complements him. Too bad it all turned to schmalz after a couple of more years.

Year: 2009

I don't mind some epic symphonic metal, but this is such an unoriginal take on the genre that it is hard to get really enthusiastic about it.

Featuring John F. Kennedy! A rather typical Dizzee Rascal song as far as I can tell, but at least it shows he still got it even past the point the world (outside of mileswide) stopped paying attention.

Allright, here I go. Forgive me to be so late to the game, what a great excuse to listen to new songs! :music-guitarred:

301. The Strokes – Eternal Summer - 9
Fantastic, fantastic song. New sound and back on top of the game. Too bad the whole album isn't as good. Still good, but not as good

302. Gang Gang Dance – MindKilla – 6.5
Interesting sound, it loses its charm halfway through, but not bad.

303. The S.O.S. Band – Take Your Time (Do It Right) – 6
Eeeh. The lenght of the song doesn't help. There's a fantastic radio show on the italian Radio Capital which mixes these kind of songs with soul, contemporary R&B and hip hop. And they do work in contest, especially if you're driving at night. Listening to it on its own, though? Nah, not really.

304. Pavement – We Dance – 8
Really noice Pavements

305. Bob Dylan – The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest - 8.5
I'm not the biggest JWH fan, but even the worst Dylan is kinda good (that would be "Saved"), and this is far, far from worst.

306. Michael Jackson – Jam – 7
Brings up a ton of memories. Watching a MJ concert on tv (a major, major event at the time), buying magazines to get MJ's poster. To this day I don't get how it got released as single. It doesn't sound like a single AT ALL to me. The rap bit is sooo 1991 (cfr. Radio Song)

I'll do the rest later during the day :greetings-waveyellow:
I survived. I speak, I breathe,
I'm incomplete
I'm alive - hooray!
You're wrong again
'Cause I feel no love

307. Barbra Streisand & Barry Gibb – Guilty - 4
Ugh. Not a fan of Barbra. There's no denying that she can sing, but this is really bland.

308. OutKast feat. B-Real - Xplosion - 9
Stankonia is a masterpiece, and this is an excellent example of why that is.

309. The Black Crowes – Wiser Time - 7.5
For some reason, I've never sat down and listened properly to the Black Crowes, even though I like them and perform their arrangement of Hard to Handle with my band. Got to say, really good stuff.

310. The La’s – Looking Glass 7.5
Ambitious song from an underrated gem of a record. Not perfect, but still.

311. Talk Talk – Tomorrow Started 7
Real classy stuff

312. Dick Annegarn - Rhapsode 5
Not my cup of tea

313. Perel - Alles 4
Not a fan of this at all, I see relatively high grades but I find it fairly boring.

314. Olive – You’re Not Alone 3.5
The remix of this song is a massive hit, and I kinda appreciate it. The original version though... wow. Never knew it was this bad.

315. Matthew Ward - Love (1986) 1.5
Wow, this is really f'n atrocious. It reminds me of when I used to work in Nando's and a co-worker used to put christian rock on while we were cleaning up and closing. Not a single decent song. That has got to be some kind of record.

316. Modest Mouse – The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box 6
I never got why people love this band so much. But this ain't that bad.

317. Cheap Trick – The Flame 2
Almost as bad as the christian rock thingy. How in the hell did this thing get to #1???

318. 김정미 [Kim Jung Mi] – 햇님 [Haenim] 7
Nice gentle folk song, I love the guitar work on it, as simple as it is.

See ya in a bit with the rest of it  :happy-partydance:
I survived. I speak, I breathe,
I'm incomplete
I'm alive - hooray!
You're wrong again
'Cause I feel no love
