Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2022: Nominations

Post by Jirin »

It's December again, that means time for another edition of Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of the Year.

The way this works is, everybody has all of December to nominate one album. Then throughout January, everyone will listen to as many of the nominations as they are able to, then rank all the albums they listened to from best to worst. The formula is a win-loss based formula, so if you don't rank an album your ballot with neither count for nor against that album.

The criteria for nominations is as follows: Any album released in 2022 is eligible, as long as it's not in the Megacritic top 50, and not likely to be in the top 50 of end of year lists. The second rule is left up to the nominator's discretion, it was added one year when Lana Del Ray - Ultraviolence was not in the top 50 of Megacritic but it was obviously going to be one of the top albums in terms of end of year lists, and ended up winning easily. So just use your best judgment and try to nominate with the idea in mind that this is a discovery game.

Post your nomination in this thread, and you can change your nomination up until December 31st. Just if you do change it make sure to clearly call it out in your post as a change.

The winner, by tradition, will get automatic entry into next year's edition of Best Moderately Acclaimed Album. Last year the winner, Genesis Owusu, did extremely well.

My nomination: Rich Ruth - I Survived, It's Over

So, just to clarify, if an album shows up in the Megacritic top 50 or in any "major" publication's EOY top 50, it's not eligible?

Almost. It may show up in any specific publications top 50, but not in the aggregated critic top 50, on the EOY 2022 part of the forum.

Gotcha. So as long as it's not in the top 50 of either of the two following sources?

Yes, as long as it's not in the Megacritic top 50 and not looking like it will be in the top 50 aggregate list. Obviously even the oddball albums could easily have one or two mentions in major publications.

I've long thought about doing Changes by King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, but lets not go with two albums by one band. Instead, let's go with something more obscure, something I only discovered because I transcribed the Bandcamp EOY list:

Anteloper - Pink Dolphins
