I'm going to go down to every two weeks, there hasn't been enough new lists yet to justify another update.

Dear, Holden. First, I'm so glad that Rina Sawayama is another act to sit on the top position outside Fiona Apple or their previous competitor, Run the Jewels, Phoebe Bridgers did it too on previous EOY list. Second, two Taylor Swift's studio albums, Evermore and Folklore, ranked together. However, third, according to an AM user, Pop Crave's list was ineligible. So, according to you is this list eligible?

I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what your second point means, but I'm not going to rank Taylor Swift's albums together. No source has done that. Also, it doesn't sound like Pop Crave is eligible.

It sounds like Wisna is merely recapping the top of the PopCrave list, which has Rina at #1 and lists the two Swift albums together as #2. As you say, it's already been established that the list is ineligible.

Some people think the eligibility is because the chosen albums and songs and not because what Henrik have said for years.

Hey, if this is a serious comment let's shut that down right now, please. Decisions on eligibility for the spreadsheet are NEVER based on bias (i.e., "I don't like this list so I'm not going to include it"). NEVER. The criteria are clear.

Feel a bit bad for The Chicks - first new album in years, they abruptly change their name to avoid getting dragged on social media, and they still barely scrape the top 50 in US lists.

Personally I didnt care for the album and I think when compared to most of the albums on this list, it doesnt even come close. I feel that many American critics liked it but in the grand scheme of things it doesnt compare with the others of the list. The same thing probably happened with the BTS album, Map of The Soul 7. I loved it and overall it was massively acclaimed upon release with a score of 82 on Metacritic, though it is absent on most EOY lists.

Out of curiosity, how many of the Top 100 has everyone heard? I’m gonna listen to the full Top 100 before I make my EOY list, and I’ve listened to 85 so far!

The ones I haven't heard:

9 | 9 | Sault | Untitled (Black Is)
17 | 20 | Sault | Untitled (Rise)
31 | 34 | Bad Bunny | YHLQMDLG
42 | 43 | Chloe x Halle | Ungodly Hour
46 | 42 | Bartees Strange | Live Forever
51 | 49 | Lil Uzi Vert | Eternal Atake
57 | 55 | Megan Thee Stallion | Good News
70 | 64 | Hum | Inlet
75 | 76 | Sevdaliza | Shabrang
84 | 91 | Four Tet | Sixteen Oceans
85 | 89 | Pa Salieu | Send Them to Coventry
88 | 100 | Lil Baby | My Turn
92 | 101 | AC/DC | Power Up
93 | 81 | Flo Milli | Ho, Why Is You Here?
94 | 96 | Open Mike Eagle | Anime, Trauma and Divorce
98 | 84 | Thurston Moore | By The Fire

I decided that this year (2021) I won't try to listen to most of the popular stuff just to keep up with it, because so much of it is just very uninteresting. Instead I'll try to find more of the stuff that interests me, which sadly doesn't align with many critics' views.

I've only missed ten from the last list. Five of those (namely Nadine Shah, Metz, Matt Beringer, Bright Eyes and Andy Shauf) that I've just forgotten about and I should add to my listening-list this week. The other five I'll pass on for now (no names as to who) though morbid curiousity may get the better of me later on.

The impression I get from their fans is that after the dust settled the album revealed itself to be quite a fragmented and messy record that somewhat paled in comparison to their last four studio releases. Personally, I thought it was alright but there were many other country/americana records released last year that I'd prefer to see highlighted in the EoYs.

49, so I guess I should listen to one more. There are about 70 albums I heard that didn't make the top 100, and quite a few I prefer.

Instead I'll try to find more of the stuff that interests me, which sadly doesn't align with many critics' views.
I pretty much agree, it's how I listened to 2020 for the most part. I do hope you listen to Shabrang though!

I heard 47 and a 1/2. One of these I was unable to listen to all the way through.

Grimes is the only one there that I HAVE heard. The only other 2020 album I've heard is Neil Cicierega's Mouth Dreams.

Only 22 and I've already basically given up on keeping up with the new stuff lol. Maybe try me again in a year?

I've heard 26 up until now. Which is alright considering the time I had for music last year.
Hope to be able to listen to a bit more (acclaimed) new music this year.

Just want to add to the hype for Shabrang, easily a top 5 of the year for me, in fact #1 is still possible.

Which one were you unable to finish? I’ve listened to most of them and haven’t struggled to get through any. The worst ones up there are probably Eternal Atake (which was a drag, but not the worst thing I’ve sat through), Good News, Ungodly Hour, and Notes on a Conditional Form. Honestly the first two just really aren’t my thing but they were never god awful, Ungodly Hour was just not nearly as good as some of the same genre on the list, and Notes had some gems but was a bit long and the lows of it were pretty boring, but I was never tempted to turn any off.

Shabrang was pretty rad. I love trip hop!

I guess call me a optimist but I don't have a preference either way and honestly like listening to new stuff both popular and underground hense why there was a variety on my EOY list. Like pop artists like BTS, Lady Gaga, The 1975, etc. and also under ground artists like Pluralone, The Chats, etc

I heard roughly around 110 albums last year

Lol, it was the Kelly Lee Owens. I just really can't stand that kind of techno electronics. Topped with nondescript washed vocals and it's an automatic turnoff for me. It's a huge wonder i made it through half of it.

Wow, Notes On A Conditional Form is the only 10/10 album I believe that came out in 2020. Phenomenal album.

When do you think it will be safe to say that EOY 2020 is over and the focus on the site update with 2020 results will be underway?

The final update to both the EOY Album & Song lists is pretty much always the Grammy winners every year.

These lists are eligible but haven't been added :

- Le Devoir (Canada; meet all criteria)
- Annual Country Music Critics' Poll (USA; counts for previous years, actually under Nashville Scene)
- Scream & Yell (Brazil; counts for previous years)
- One Muzyka (Poland; meet all criteria)
- iReport (Czechia; Its Alexa ranking just improved to 970,000+ recently)
- The Harvard Crimson (USA; meet all criteria)
- Super 45 (Chile; counts for previous years)

Donchano is saying that the list posted in this thread - http://acclaimedmusic.net/forums/viewto ... =28&t=9827 - is from the source included as Nashville Scene in previous EOY spreadsheets.

Another eligible list :

Guitar.com http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/forums/vi ... =28&t=9668
- Printed music magazine

Deutschlandfunk http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/forums/vi ... 94#p136494
- Main radio station in Germany, the list includes variety forms of musical releases including compilations, studio albums and concert albums

I've found two eligible Japanese sources but the main problem is both magazines only available in physical copies.
- Rockin'on (their blog only revealed the Top 10) http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/forums/vi ... =28&t=9602
- Music Magazine http://musicmagazine.jp/mm/mm202101.html

Super 45 doesn't fulfill the criteria. It was once included in the EOY sheets, but is not included on the main AM site.

Thanks for sharing! This list/website is incredible.
Since I’m relatively new to the site and 2020 was the first year in the decade, do you add these albums to the master list the following year or once every ten years? I wasn’t sure since a lot of the methodology included “best of the decade” lists. Thanks!

Henrik recently posted that with his job, the website's master list won't be updated until 2024. Since the last update in late 2020 added music from 2018 and 2019, nothing from the 2020s will be added until then.
