“Los orígenes del canto popular” Miguel Ángel Cruz (Book - 2022)

Post by panam »

Normally, latin music lists are focused on music from the last 40 years or hits in the United States, so I'm glad to find a book available on internet about songwriting of popular music mainly focus on Latin America and Spain, with some exceptions that includes music since the 19th century.

I will share the songs soon.

Great find! One thing that's always intrigued me is that in many Latin American sources that compile lists, they praise a composition without recognizing a specific performance. This trend seems unique to Latin America. For instance, songs like "Bésame Mucho" or "La Llorona" are widely celebrated and frequently feature on these lists, but unlike lists from other parts of the world, there's a notable difficulty in hailing one rendition as the definitive one. Regrettably, this leads to a dilution of these songs' acclaim outside Latin America, where specific versions tend to receive the accolades.

Ah, so you're telling me music existed before the 1980s, and not all of it was trying to break into the Billboard Hot 100? Color me shocked! 😲 Here I was, thinking Latin music's entire history started with the synthesizer era. Kudos to Miguel Ángel Cruz for daring to suggest that Latin America and Spain have been crafting tunes since the 19th century—what a revolutionary idea! 🎩🕰️ Next, you'll be telling me they didn't even need autotune. Can't wait to dive into this treasure trove and see if any of those centuries-old bangers can compete with my morning alarm. 🎺📚
