Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles were meant to be released as a single game, appeared on the market within months of each other and could be connected together (as could Knuckles with Sonic 2), ok if I group them (i.e. 3 and Knuckles) together?

In that case, would you mind just ranking 1 & 2 separately and leaving Deluxe out altogether? Even if you didn't play individual editions of 1 & 2 (I'm not sure if you did or not), you played both games in one form or another. I hope that won't pose a problem?
Sure. I would have no problem with that.

Yes, please group them. I was gonna include Sonic 3 and Knuckles as a single entry, but thought that would've caused some issues.

This is a rather tricky one. Quite a few people would consider them to be the same game despite being released separate years, due to having nearly the exact same coding, continuing the cliffhanger of the first game, and being released in the same time period. I wasn't sure If this would be acceptable, but If you want me to count them separately, I could do that.

I can see now they were in fact released in one package for PS4 & Xbox One. They're on Steam as one unit, so there's no need to change anything 8-)

Correct! Sorry about that, I guess it’s full title is Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, which I played on the original Playstation.

Crap I forgot about that one, I had the original from 1971 so that’s the edition for my list!

That's the first I've heard of any games existing before Pong, educational or otherwise, but onto my spreadsheet the '71 version goes!

There are a handful of games older than Pong; the very first appears to be something called Tennis for Two from 1958. There's also Spacewar! from 1962 which was pretty influential.

Though I am curious about FrankLotion having played the very original Oregon Trail. Like, the version which used a printer to print out the text instead of using a display monitor? I feel like the 1985 version which uses a computer monitor and adds visuals is the one most people know; at the same time, aren't they all variations on the same game?

I think I just had the exact year wrong, this one from 1975 looks like the one I’ve played.

The biggest difference between this and the later editions is that this one was pretty much text-based only...

Noted and changed accordingly! Interesting to hear about Pong's antecedents too, I can picture Tennis for Two being pretty similar to Pong, which I guess merely benefited from being more mass-produced.

I doubt this was the 1982 game seemingly exclusive to the UK and our BBC Computers but would it happen to have been 1976's (Colossal Cave) Adventure or 1980's Adventure on the Atari 2600? Sorry to ask these one-by-one...

Damn I didn’t realize there were so many versions of this either! So we had one of those Atari Flashback consoles that had some of the classic games preloaded, I found a Wikipedia page about it and I’m pretty sure we had the Atari 2600 version which I think makes it the 1980 version?

Sorry to have made this so confusing! I hadn’t realized how many of these older games had different versions, here’s the link to the Wikipedia article in case you’re curious about these flashback consoles:

Not at all, you've seemingly cleared things up, that was the only Adventure on the 2600 as far as I can ascertain! And I assumed if it must've been the rejig of FF XIV going by Online's sub-par reception!

EDIT: The last sentence's typo!
