Simpsons Poll 2021 Results

Post by whuntva »

I got tired of waiting and decided to roll out the results. It is also worth noting during the interim time, I was able to complete all 32 seasons of The Simpsons as I counted votes. Sorry to the people who wanted to vote but couldn't, but I did reach my goal with the poll, so I will begin the rollout.

I received ballots from these users with these lengths:

BleuPanda (20)
Mileswide (100)
Live In Phoenix (20)
Nick (20)
Wezzo (100)
Whuntva AKA Me (100)

Format:

Quote
Image
Rank. Episode Title (Season, Order)
(# points | # votes)
Biggest Fans: (any Top 10 votes OR highest vote overall)
Rank in 2010 Poll: (only if applicable)
Fun Fact:

I think I will go up to a Top 100 with this one. I couldn't find the Nohomers.net poll, which is already a bit out of date. But if anyone can link a more "professional" Simpsons Poll, I will take it.

Okay, maybe my dad did steal Itchy. So what? Animation is built on plagiarism. If it weren't for someone plagiarizing the Honeymooners we wouldn't have the Flintstones. If someone hadn't ripped off Sergeant Bilko, there'd be no Top Cat. Huckleberry Hound, Chief Wiggum, Yogi Bear? Hah! Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney. Your honor, you take away our right to steal ideas, where are they gonna come from?

Fermat's Last Theorem was proven a mere five months before the episode aired.

In this batch, we get our first two #1 picks.

That's it. I'm getting out of this town alive if it kills me.

Image
45. The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson (Season 9, Episode 1)
(144.76 points | 2 votes)
Biggest Fans: Bleupanda (6)
Fun Fact: Predictably, this episode underwent heavy edits after 9/11. Particularly many verbal references to Homer's car parked in the middle of World Trade as well as the insensitive comments about the dumb people in Tower 1 have been removed (though IIRC the unedited version is on Disney+). However, as an apology, the writers sent a frame from this episode as a gift to the 9/11 Memorial.

I guess you might say he's barking up the wrong Bush.

Image
44. Two Bad Neighbors (Season 7, Episode 13)
(145.54 points | 2 votes)
Biggest Fans: Mileswide (1)
Fun Fact: The writers had never heard of a "George Bush Jr." before the episode and used the reference as Homer being dumb.

I never apologize, Lisa. I'm sorry but that's the way I am.

Image
43. Trash of the Titans (Season 9, Episode 22)
(148.57 points | 2 votes)
Biggest Fans: Live in Phoenix (1)
Fun Fact: U2's drummer Adam Clayton has no spoken lines, though he does sing a part in "The Garbage Man Can".

You know what would have been scarier than nothing? Anything!

Image
42. Treehouse of Horror I (Season 2, Episode 3)
(151.12 points | 2 votes)
Biggest Fans: Live in Phoenix (17)
Fun Fact: This is the only Treehouse of Horror to actually be in the Treehouse.

Wait a minute. This sounds like rock and/or roll!

Image
41. Bart Sells His Soul (Season 7, Episode 4)
(151.84 points | 3 votes)
Biggest Fans: Mileswide (45)
Fun Fact: Greg Daniels wanted them to sing "Jesus He Knows Me" instead of "Inna-Gadda-da-Vida", but could not secure the rights.

(152.58 points | 2 votes)
Biggest Fans: whuntva (1)
Rank in 2010 Poll: 2 (-38)
Fun Fact: The iconic "We Do" number was not in the original script. It was improved and thrown together in the writers' room by including as many things that annoyed them as they could.
But we already did it. It took seven hours but we did it. It's done!
Image
39. Radioactive Man (Season 7, Episode 2)
(152.89 points | 2 votes)
Biggest Fans: Live in Phoenix (3)
Rank in 2010s Poll: 25 (-14)

(157.81 points |3 votes)
Biggest Fans: Live in Phoenix (11)
Fun Fact: James Woods was said to be one of the most confident and fun guest stars on The Simpsons. He was a legitimate fan and his tendency for long pauses made it easier to work around him.
I'm Marge Simpson, I'll be playing Blanche. I also made some peanut butter brownies for everyone.
Image

Biggest Fans: Nick (15)
Fun Fact: In 2015, an actual petition to rename Australia's currency "the dollarydoo" got 47,000 signatures in a week. It didn't take, though.

Image
33. One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish (Season 2, Episode 11)
(178.25 points | 3 votes)
Biggest Fans: Bleupanda (19)
Fun Fact: Fugu poisoning is much more sudden than depicted in this episode. Paralysis happens almost on the spot, which will stop the lungs and cause suffocation. However, this miscalculation is necessary for driving the plot, so I'll let it slide.

To Alcohol! The cause of--and solution to--all of life's problems!

Image
32. Homer vs. The 18th Amendment (Season 8, Episode 18)
(184.13 points | 3 votes)

Looking forward to following the end of this. I've just got myself a Disney+ subscription (decided to bite the bullet and watch the Marvel movies...) but the Simpsons is just the perfect time filler when you've got half an hour or so to kill. So it will be great to catch up on some of these!

I also happened to take part in the 2010 poll as well and looked back at my list from then. I really loved the Lisa-centric episodes!

1. Lisa’s Wedding - 50
2. Cape Feare - 45
3. Lisa's First Word - 40

This was merely a miscalculation of the spreadsheet. Lost track of the columns, so both of those came from Live in Phoenix instead. Sorry about that.

Totals are correct, however.

I separated the Top Four to prove a point. No episode got on every ballot, but each of the Top 4 were 5/6. Impressive!

Fun Fact: The writers had never heard of a "George Bush Jr." before the episode and used the reference as Homer being dumb.
I find this very surprising! At this time this episode was released "George Bush Jr." was the current governor of Texas, while Jeb Bush (who is also referenced by name in this episode) was much more obscure (he had just lost a race for Florida's governorship).
